I support this petition because Haiti, like Palestine, is being ignored by the international community while horrendous injustice is taking place there.
Mr. Bruner is only the latest fatality in a culture of violence that is destroying the persons who are working to better the lives of their countrymen.
It is important that U.S. citizens put themselves on record against attacks on the Haitian people funded with U.S.tax dollars and policies of the Bush regime.
The forces of reaction may extinguish a life but they cannot extinguish the quest for justice and universal desire for peace. The brutal assassination of Esterne Bruner will steel our resolve to bring peace with Justice to the people of Haiti.
I stood in Gran Ravine on Thursday, August 24, 2006 with Esterne as he and other victims of the July 7th massacre spoke to our delegation about how the UN had failed to protect them. Later I learned that members of one of the gangs who had attacked them, Lame Ti Manchet, sat nearby watching. I had seen members of the gang joking with the Sri Lankan troops. Why won't the UN release any of the results of its human rights investigations and why does the UN's disarmament program skip Haiti's most notorious death squads? What is Lame Ti Manchet doing hanging out in Gran Ravine instead of prison for a very long time? Esterne should have been protected by the UN, not patronized by it.
I support this petition because I have spoken with witnesses of massacres in Haiti, and know that unless these can be protected, the truth will not surface in the mainstream media
The lack of respect among the leaders of Haiti, for the hard working, earnest, non-violent, people of Grand Ravine, is very depressing. Justice must prevail, for without it there will never be peace.
We are simply askin g for justice, and human rights in Haiti. For the powers that be to e nforce the law and for the preservation of human lives. To permit Haitians the freedom in their independence and survival.
Is this too much to ask, or is there an obscure reason why the Haitians are being persecuted?
