You may already have read in the press or received our e-mail about the Bank of Scotland’s decision to loan 4.5 million pounds to Remnant Productions to buy part of Richard Desmond’s pornographic empire. The loan helped meet the purchase price of 45 pornographic magazines from Mr.Desmond including Asian Babes, Barely Legal and Sixty Plus. The Bank of Scotland’s own ‘Equality and Diversity’ strategy calls for its business to be underpinned by “social, moral and political” factors. Clearly the Bank of Scotland’s principles are negotiable. They also ignore the awful reality that the commercial production of pornography depends on the exploitation of women and children. |

2 Jul 2006 - 16:09 Jon : Pornography has effectively turns people onto commodities, has stolen and contaminated intimacy and is a danger to society. |
6 May 2006 - 18:50 margaret grainger : As a woman and the mother of 2 girls and 1 boy i CANT afford not to. This deranged mysogany must be stopped before it takes a 100yrs to turn back...if ever!! |

9 Mar 2006 - 16:23 Erin Murphy : I support this petition. |
14 Feb 2006 - 18:34 Francine Hoenderkamp : I support this petition. I think one of the titles 'Barely Legal' says it all. This industry glorifies and endorses paeodophilia amongst many other things. It's sickening. |
14 Feb 2006 - 1:38 Dr H Gough : I support this petition. |
31 Aug 2005 - 14:01 Maria Sweerts : I didn't expect this from a Bank that seemed serious and responsible like the Bank of Scotland. |
27 Jul 2005 - 9:26 Mr. Obvious : You people need to relax. Porn is a huge industry that could buy you, and the women wouldn't do it if they felt "exploited" or weren't paid enough. Porn serves one purpose. Those who buy it want to see women having sex, not teaching a graduate school course on quantum physics. And what's this child abuse thing? To be in commercially produced porn you MUST be at least 18 years of age when you make it i.e. ADULT. They're especially cautious because of the old Traci Lords fiasco. |
19 May 2005 - 16:06 Jean Bird : Thank you for keeping women in Scotland informed about how the financial insititutions in our country exploiting us and our reputations |
2 May 2005 - 15:09 Daisy Silcock : No financial aid should be given to this industry. It should be banned before the UK turns into a nation that brings children up with porn. |
11 Mar 2005 - 17:02 Gina Millar : |
4 Mar 2005 - 16:12 t.holden : i agree,on bbc1 yesterday at 9am there was a programme all about the porn industry which said porn had become mainstream which sickened me,but as the programme was going out at that time when small children are watching it seems sad but true,im increasiongly being made to feel like a prude because im against pornography although im broadminded,i object to how women are shown as brainless sexobjects not living breathing women with valid opinions-i hope this hits the bank hard and they have to grovel. good luck! |
20 Feb 2005 - 19:43 Rosemary Macrae : It is very disappointing that what would appear to be a respected organisation could consider this acceptable; major Scottish institutions have the opportunity of setting an example of investment practice which benefits investors and legitimate business. This cynically promotes money making activities which depend on degrading and exploiting women and, indeed, men who read such magazines. |
15 Dec 2004 - 2:54 Ms N. Felthouse : They should be ashamed of themselves to support the objectification of women. I have closed my account. |
21 Nov 2004 - 18:35 Janet Christie : The Bank of Scotland ought to be ashamed of itself and I will no longer be associated with such a bunch of bankers. |

3 Nov 2004 - 14:39 D McCarthy : |
3 Nov 2004 - 8:03 Mrs Galadriel Potter : Shame on the Bank for providing the finance that promotes unethical treatment of women. |

29 Oct 2004 - 3:14 Sue Lowrie : I appreciate being informed of this situation and will ensure that many others become aware, too. |

27 Oct 2004 - 20:53 Wise Women : The Bank of Scotlands actions totally negates their on paper Equality strategy. They are contributing and supporting the abuse of women and children through commercial sexual exploitation. We are closing our accounts with them. |
27 Oct 2004 - 13:38 kate lambert : |
25 Oct 2004 - 4:37 Ann Campbell : Thank you for bringing this to my attention. It is unbelievable that what would appear to be a respected organsation could consider this as acceptable practice. |

19 Oct 2004 - 17:22 Lesley Wilson : |
19 Oct 2004 - 6:25 Rod Veitch : |
18 Oct 2004 - 4:19 Elisabeth Cannell : The word “respect” runs through the HBOS statement on its equality and diversity policy. “We are determined,” the Bank says, “to treat all current and potential colleagues and customers fairly and with respect.” Well, pornography is profoundly disrespectful of women. What will your Asian customers and colleagues think of the Bank owning ‘Asian Babes’ . Or your customers and employees with young daughters think about your association with ‘Barely Legal’; if that is what it sounds like it is a peculiarly repellant publication. And as an older woman the idea of Sixty Plus seems to me pretty sick. I am sure you can do better than to be the Bank that owns the ‘top shelf mags’. A commitment to “ Enlightened ethical employment and business practices” suggests that NOT acquiring 45 pornographic magazines would better maintain your commitment “to making our environment at work free from discrimination or harassment of any kind” and to continuing “to value and respect your colleagues and their dignity at work.” I hope you will withdraw from this deal when you realise that your customers and colleagues will not continue to respect and value you if you proceed with it. | 23 | 11 Oct 2004 - 3:00 Ms Sue Henderson : I had thought of Bank of Scotland as being more ethical than most banks as my charity mastercard is from them. I will be cutting it up and returning it to them forthwith. They will not use my hard earned cash to fund what is essentially sex abuse for money. Thank you, SWAP, for bringing this to my attention. |

8 Oct 2004 - 20:22 Paul Harper : The Bank of Scotland would like to be seen as a moral pillar of the establishment. If we don't take a stand against it bankrolling the porn industry, we'll be complicit in a huge crime against society. |
