The reason HD DVD will succeed because it seems the most logical step up from DVD. HD TV's are getting popular, so which would think makes sense to go along with it - Blue ray or HD DVD? Hmmm...
I have little faith in Hollywood's ability to adapt properly in the digital age, but cutting off the format war would at least be a step in the right direction.
Seems to me, Sony has been doing an excellent job of producing shoddy work lately. Every Sony product i've bought has been in the shop at one time or another. TVs (2), camcorder, tape dec. Their attitude towards the market is shameful. I'm looking for a more reliable supplier. HD DVD is cheaper, better known technology, should be more reliable in the long run. I want ONE standard that works on my PC, and my player. That way I can create movies of my kids, and my dad will actually be able to see them. DVD has been horrible in this regard.
not only is the name HD-DVD less confusing, but its cheaper and i dont want to have to pay an extra $1000 or whatever to be able to watch every movie that i want to.
HD-DVD sounds better than Blu-Ray.
The consumer can at least tell that HD-DVD is a movie. Most people don't know what Blu-ray is.
Keep it simple please.
I feel very strongly about this.HD DVD is the approved system by the DVD Forum... People are buying this over the Blu-Ray models and the studios should listen to what their customers want, not to what Sony wants... I have purchased a tosh A1 (US model) over in England (the UK discs will never amount in number to anything like the US catalogue, as usual, hence my purchasing decision. On a technical level, why OF COUSE they can be BOTH identical in performance once further development occurs.... but the world DVD Forum chose one over the other, because nobody wants a format war... where there are only losers.... Sony had numerous opportunities to join a single format party.... greed, maybe pride, has made what could have been a unified GLORY for the consumer worldwide into a regretable mess for consumers, studios, manufacturers and them poor folks in the stores who have to sell the technology to the poor consumer who is Mister CONFUSED!!
Right now, it depends on WHICH studios your prefered films come from... unless you are one of the minute lucky few who have more money than sense and buy both!!! I support the petition 100%..
If there is going to be a format war, level the playing field and make all IP avaible in both formats. The market will decide on which is better "at a reasonable price"
Please support HD-DVD. There is no comparison between the video quality of HD-DVD and Blu Ray. HD-DVD wins hands down. Please release films in the best possible format available.
HD-DVD is our households HD format of choice. We welcome the opportunity to upgrade our video collection to HD, if the studios would only give us the opportunity to buy them in HD-DVD format.
Bluray had a fine POTENTIAL but lousy execution. For me quality is everything..HD-DVD has it and Bluray brought nothing to the game. Why are the studios fighting this simple truth? I would NEVER consider buying the current state of of BD.
...in the past both VHS and Beta lived alongside each other, and content owners who wanted their content widely distributed simply released two versions. I support the return of this system, and if that means government legislation to protect the free market, then so be it.
I have not seen a single Blu Ray title that matches HD DVD for quality. HD DVD wins hands down every time. Sony appears to have yet another failed format to add to its long list of failed formats. The studios need to wake up, give the market what it clearly wants - HD DVD - and start making some money for their shareholders.
It's amazing how out of touch these companies are with their consumers. Yes, we want better, but we want it for cheaper or equal the price we're paying currently.
Just make one form for HDDVD. This electronics world is confusing enough without you having a format war over this stuff. +R-R-RW CD-R DVDRAM. It gets really hard to keep up with all of this stuff!!!!!
I think it a shame that companys like disney, fox and sony would not make titles available to consumers for both formats. whats to lose by having more consumers be able to purchase movie titles. the hd dvd drive is the cheapest buy for next generation dvd for millions of xbox 360 owners like my self and something because of it's fair cost millions of xbox 360 owners will be purchasing.
HD-DVD provides better, more consistent and reliable quality at a better price. Add to that a better set of required feature support for hardware compliance and HD-DVD is a slam dunk. We want HD-DVD and a swift end to the format war.
HD-DVD is by far my preferred format to purchase movies in. Reasonably priced hardware and better looking movies are the main reason that I chose it over Blu-ray.
I really hope Lion's Gate chooses to release on HD DVD soon. I'm already saving up money to import Total Recall, Terminator 2, and some other HD DVD titles that will be available in Europe. I would rather Lion's Gate take my money than Studio Canal.
European/Japanese/Austral ian distributor's are gonna be making a fortune selling Sony, Disney, and Lion's Gate stuff through import shops. The Blu-ray studios could save themselves headaches and release titles in the US to prevent this (or at least, limited HD DVD support for titles already available abroad).
After pooring over lots of reviews, i can't see why a less expensive and equally functional product is not supported. oh wait i can, big studios are in it for the money and style points. are you sure you are on the right side of the fence?
I believe that hd-dvd is the best choice for the consumer. Also, have these huge publishers really thought about how important a name is???? HD-DVD hits home with the average consumer, bluray sounds like another sony forced format.
Studios, do you remember who brought you those winning formats such as beta-max, UMD, Minidisk? HD-DVD is equivalent if not better quality than Blu-Ray. It is also 50% cheaper for the customer. No contest.
I have bought a Toshiba HD-A1 player and will not be buying a blu-ray player. I will not be buying any more SD-DVDs, so if you want me to buy any of your titles you need to release them on HD-DVD.
Cost for customers, quality (though BluRay could theoretically start using VC1), and dual use (as standard DVDs) make this a no brainer.
Oh yeah, and the availability of a $200 US HD-Dvd player makes this a win for HDDVD.
HD-DVD has better name recognition, better compression, and does not have the negative reputation from Sony's involvement in its creation. Switch to HD-DVD; It's all I'll ever purchase in HD movies.
