I have a Xbox360 HD-DVD drive and I will never buy a blu-ray product. If there is no HD-DVD selection of a particular movie, I will buy the DVD version then.
I echo all the valid points laid out in this petition and other supporter comments. When the consumer is happy, the studios win. HDDVD is walking the walk while Blu Ray is Talking.
I have been a strong supporter of HD-DVD since its conception....even when things looked grim....I refuse to buy Blu-ray which means unless more studio's offer support for HD-DVD I wont be buying some of my favorite movies....so less money for them!
A single format is in the best interest of consumers. HD-DVD looks superior at this point, so devs might as well start creating good hardware around this standard.
Player prices are cheaper, software is cheaper, and it is better quality than Blu-ray. But other than that, in general I don't trust Sony anymore: rootkits, battery recalls, ATRAC, memory stick. Why do they always force their own standards rather than working with others?
I have a the HDDVD attachment for the X360 and now a PS3. The X360 will be used for movies as the HDDVD drive is seperate and i know from experience that an overused drive (PS3 for games and movies) fail very quickly
HD DVD will win this sales campaign. From a simple marketing side the branding and power of "HD DVD" as a name, is a bit more of a seller to a regular consumer. It is two words that are trusted to the buyer, because they have reliability, and they make more of a connection to a regular buyer. This is one of the many things that place the format into the positive stages. Price/Hybrid...are also main contributors, but I'll keep it simple. There is no doubt in my mind that HD DVD will prevail.
HD-DVD is the way to go in this format war. Blu-ray so far has only promised higher prices in both dvd's and players.....whatever happened to giving the consumer the best possible product for less money?? oh wait, it's here and it's called HD-DVD!!!
Blue Ray disk may be the technologically better format. But I ll stick with HD-DVD. The price is better, the licensing pricing is better, the retail execution has been better considering toshiba is the primary backer and they have hybrid disks available with a standard DVD layer on the back. From a marketing point of view HD-DVD is definately doing things smarter. If even 50% of the studios jumped to HD-DVD this format contest would be over within 6 months.
HD-DVD is cheaper, clearer and MOST HD DVD releases utilise the excellent VC1 codec. Im all for new techical advances, and blu-ray offers none. HD-DVD all the way!
There's 2 distinct differences between HD-DVD & Blu-Ray. HD-DVD is in it to please the consumer whereas Blu-Ray is in it primarily to scam as much money from the consumer as possible.
