Everybody is better off with one universal standard with low acceptance threshold (price, compatibility, supported formats). And: we as consumers want to keep a clean separation between hardware manufacturers and content providers.
What is this? I don't know what to buy HDDVD or Blu-Ray. At least HDDVD sounds like a standard. Blu-Ray does sound like an experimental format that Sony is trying to sneak up on you. Anyhow, I've heard that HDDVD have been out selling Blu-Ray, so what does that tell you? The only people that will be buying Blu-Ray are PS3 owners.
HD-DVD. Sony excellent electronics, but do they really need to get in a format war again? Just accept the HD-DVD format and make excellent products to support them.
50GB so what if 30GB is more than enough. I love Sony products, but they've lost most of the format wars to date. I'm sure it has it's potential, but what else can you use a UMD (PS3) for?
I love the format but there really needs to be some big titles released to really push HD DVD into mainstream. My preference would be the lord of the rings trilogy but star wars, Matrix, LOTR, or even some of the large action films from people like brucheimer or michael bay.
Bluray is just going to be another betamax.
I feel bad for the people who invest in this technology.
Why do these companies always try to get one over on the other? Does Sony not have enough money?
Come on people, lets keep it simple. Our lives are complicated enough!
After doing the research I have chosen to support HD DVD for it's obviously better than Blu Ray. If you want people to buy your movies in a high definition format, you really need to start atleast supporting both formats. Only supporting Blu Ray is a sure fire way to alienate a large portion of your potential customer base (including me).
Building My HD-DVD Collection Bigger & Bigger Each Day! I've worked at Circuit City for 3 years and I know that the name HD-DVD will lead to great success compared to a name like Blu-Ray
HD-DVD is definitely the better format. All studios exclusively supporting blu-ray need to recognize the $$ passing over their heads and jump on the HD-DVD bandwagon! Easier to replicate (using existing DVD replication infrastructure), better quality...
HD-DVD is the logical next step. Just because Blueray has more capacity does not make it better. HD-DVD's format is big enough for any epic movie in top quality. It's cheaper to buy, and cheaper to make disks for. It's the only HD format worth buying!
Blu-ray may have the ability to match and IN TERMS OF SPACE surpass HD-DVD esp. as better codecs are used. BUT, HD-DVD has provided all the quality blu-ray ever will and it has essentially done it from the start at half the price. If I can go to the store, get the same quality (even if it take -heaven forbid- an extra disc) at half the price for the player and considerably less for the movie, why would I want anything else? Why would anyone outside of brand loyalty or some very specialized need for the (where movies are concerned) relatively insignificant greater capacity of blu-ray?
I HOPE THIS IS THE LAST TIME THAT SONY WILL ATTEMPT TO FORCE THE MARKET. I HAVE MANY GREAT SONY PRODUCTS INCLUDING A NEW 60"SXRD WEGA WHICH I WATCH WITH HDDVD TOSHIBA.. GROW UP SONY... GIVE IT UP!
I support the HD-DVD format because it is backed by Microsoft (an Amercian company) which translates into keeping the economy stronger in my own country. Why pay double the cost for what my eyes can't perceive as double the performance.
When will Sony get over making lame retarted proprietary formats. The only reason Memory Stick is still around is because morons continue to buy thier crappy cameras and PSP's. Honestly. The only reason this format war is even upon us is our own damn fault as consumers. Down with BluRay
Sony is force feeding us what we don't want, hopefully the studios will realize this. Also, the features and color look better on my HD than on my PS3.
I refuse to buy two players, and I already own an HD DVD player. I own over 400 DVDs and I'm looking forward to repurchasing many of my favorites on HD DVD. If my only option is Blu Ray, I will not be making that purchase.
I whole heartedly support HD-DVD over Blu-Ray as HD-DVD is superior in all aspects. All movie studio's not supporting HD-DVD should open their eyes and please support the clear winner.
I don't want to spend a thousand dollars on a blu ray when I can buy an HD DVD player at walmart for 498 and get the same quality. The movies are cheaper too. Only someone stupid would spend the extra money.
HDDVD rocks in all ways picture, sound and availibilty of content. The price is right too the blueray players are about twice as expensive as HDDVD and have the same picture quality and sound quality.
