Having worked in the AV industry for years I find the policy of exclusive support for blu-ray baffling. Consumers need the choice, by only releasing movies on one format - a much more expensive for same quality format - format erodes trust in the product and its distributors. It makes the blu-ray supporters look greedy. Release your catalogue on both and let us make the choice.
i have a 400 dvd movies library.
i have two 1080p westinghouse lcd's, another sony 50" sxrd 1080p on its way.
15 years ago, i supported directv when they first started.
this christmas, i placed an order for toshiba hd-xa2 as i decided the next hd dvd format should be.
guess how much buying power i have for future hd-dvd movies?
HD-DVD is clearly the better format; please change (or at least have make both) soon so we can all spend money on your products. That's right, you will have access to our fat wallets if you make the move.
Hd DVD is the only option when price, functionality, production costs and quality are taken into consideration. Only fools pay for design mistakes by purchasing overpriced items such as Playstation 3 and Samsung Blu Ray player(€1,500). Come on lets get realistic here. The competition is already over!!
Just bought a 360 hd-dvd drive. WOW. Never seen anything this good on my HDTV ever... I've bought 3 hd-dvd movies so far and looking foward to expanding my library.
Sony is having HUGE manufacturing issues and horrible yields on the blue laser diodes.. The substrates they use are not working and they have NOT been able to develop anything else.. thus, blue ray costs more.. will be in very limited numbers in production... and titles costing much more now.. and in the foreseeable short AND long term future.. We need HD DVD today.. it costs less.. performance is excellent.. it will be more easily affordable by the masses and will yield the studios much more $$ if they support it.
As an owner of the xbox 360 HD-DVD drive, and a recent buyer of ten HD-DVDs in less than a week, it would be foolish of you to not offer me your films for purchase.
Studios, learn from past mistakes/failures. Disney DIVX only...didn't work. FOX slow entry to DVD advanced technology like anamorphic transfers...cost you. Why must you ALWAYS allow history to repeat itself and fall short. The CONSUMER PUBLIC deserves to make this choice. You cannot shove it down our throats...it will cost you the longer you wait.
HD-DVD is the better format. Customers know that Sony just wants to rip them off, and that is why HD-DVD has more widespread appeal. It is less expensive for you and the consumer. Why waste money by releasing limited content to both formats? The consumers have already spoken. There is no stalemate. HD-DVD is the better, more affordable product, while Sony just wants to bank from both the consumer and the studio unfairly.
