Today 47 million Americans are uninsured. Even for those lucky enough to have insurance, rising costs and diminishing coverage force many Americans to go without needed care because they can’t afford it. Without adequate health insurance, health care costs financially ruin hundreds of thousands of American families. Furthermore, because most people obtain health care coverage through their jobs, the size of the uninsured population is closely linked with developments in the job market. As the economy currently suffers from a recession and unemployment rates increase, the uninsured population is growing at an alarmingly accelerated rate.

House Resolution (H.R.) 676, the U.S. National Health Insurance Act, establishes a single payer national health insurance program. The bill creates a publicly financed yet privately delivered health care system that extends the already existing Medicare program to all U.S. residents and all residents living in U.S. The goal of the legislation is to ensure that all Americans will have access to quality and cost effective health care services regardless of their employment, income or health care status, ultimately recognizing health care as a human right.

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, SUPPORT THE HOUSE RESOLUTION (HR) 676, THE U.S. NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE ACT AND URGE CONGRESS TO PASS THIS BILL.
