In light of a recent event, I have realized the dangers that health club members across the United States face on a daily bases. On November 7th, 2005 a man by the name of Gary Fowler died of a heart attack right in front of my eyes while he was exercising at a health club in Gaithersburg Maryland. He grabbed his chest and collapsed on to the floor, his face turning purple. Shockingly, no one on staff was able to perform CPR or administer first aid. I have done a great deal of research on this topic and have quickly realized that there are no governmental requirements or regulations in place to oversee the safety of health club members and guests. I am asking you to please sign my petition to have our government adopt new regulations for health clubs which will require that they provide safety and first aid to health club members and guests in the case of an emergency. I do not know the solution because I am not a professional, but there are people who know what needs to be done.
