As voters and citizens of Cook County, we feel as though we feel the method that surrounds how Todd Stroger's election into office was not democratic and fair!

With a declining economy, higher gas prices, housing prices plummeting, we feel there is absolutely no reason for our county to be raising taxes! With the passing of the latest sales tax hike, our sales taxes are amongst the highest in the nation! As the federal government is trying to save our economy through tax reductions, it is crazy that our local government is doing the exact opposite.

Businesses are leaving our county, and many businesses on county border lines are finding it very difficult to compete especially since our taxes are several percent higher than just a few blocks away! Fewer businesses means fewer jobs!

The mismanagement that is occurring at our county is hurting people of all income levels. From closures of health clinics to high property taxes, we are tired of this nonsense.

If our county REALLY wanted to fix the budget they should stop wasteful spending! For starters, is it REALLY necessary that each and every Forest Preserve sign be changed with the name of the new president? How much did this cost and does it really benefit the community? How can a county with revenue from the City of Chicago, one of the largest cities in the nation have such a budget shortfall? How can other neighboring counties offer so much more using so much less? Where is all of this money actually going?

We feel that Todd Stroger is not serving the needs of the citizens! We are tired of the mismanagement occurring in our county government! We are calling for immediate change starting with NEW LEADERSHIP within our county government!

Please check out this Sunday's front page article in the Chicago Tribune. (Sunday March 9, 2008) A $1075 laptop would cost you only $54.87 in sales tax in nearby Racine, WI. However in Cook County the same laptop would cost you $110.28 in sales tax!! I mean for that difference why wouldn't people either order online and/or go to neighboring suburbs.
