A number of Iraqi athletes are not being allowed to participate in the Olympic Games in Beijing.  Iraq's government disbanded the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, saying it was corrupt and did not hold elections properly.  The government replaced the committee with its own, and apparently it has failed to meet certain deadlines which would allow five athletes to compete.  The International Olympic Committee has said that it is regrettable that they will not be able to participate, yet they are the ones who make the rules.  The IOC should take the time to really appreciate what many of these athletes have gone through to make it to the Olympics, especially in this time of war.  They should not be made to pay for the mistakes of the committee which represents them.  Please sign this petition if you believe the Iraqis deserve to compete and represent their country in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

I support this petition. And for Kylie, your comment is offensive. Thanks for perpetuating stereotypes. Good job.

It's bad enogh the olympic committee decided to hold the games in a country that has stripped its citizens of so much dignity, much less banning the athletes of a country who has risen from so much. I'm disgusted with the olympic committee.

It's unfortunate that this is happening and I'm sure it's also taken its toll on the morale of the people.
