I served aborad the Kennedy from September 1971 to December 1973 while attached to Attack Squadron 34. This was one of the greatest periods of my life.
I steamed on the JFK as a journalist and a veteran about 25 years after I had served aboard the USS Midway CV-41. We got the Midway to become a very successful museum (like the Intrepid in New York City) it's a no-brainer that Big John should be in Boston - or Florida - or anywhere.
Having served in the US Navy from '69-'73, and being an admirer of President Kennedy, I firmly believe this is an outstanding and very attainable goal! Like the USS Midway Museum in San Diego, upon which I volunteered from '05-'06, the USS Kennedy could become one of Boston's main attractions!
Being a proud former crew of the Big John (Feb 1988 - Apr 1990**Dental Department) I whole heartedly support this petition and I am hoping and praying that will come into fruitition!
We need to save the Big John. He was truely a legndary president and this will carry on his legacy. One of the finest ships I served on in my 24 year career.
Too many of our great ships are lost to the bottom of the sea. Please preserve this great ship so that future generations of those who have served on it can go back to remember. As the daughter of a late Navy radioman, I have longed to see the ship that my father so proudly served his country during Vietnam in. His grandchildren have also said that they too wished that they could have seen it. The USS Wainwright is long gone, but we can save this one for others. God bless.
i support this....hey can somebody make a petion against the electoral college..i tried to but it wouldnt work.,,,if u get it to work email me at williamschoy@yahoo.com and tell me so i can sign it!!!
i SERVED ABOARD THE kENNEDY DURING OUR IO CRUISE IN 84 WITH VA-37. SHE WAS MY FIRST SHIP AND HAS A PLACE IN MY HEART. I WAS HEART BROKEN WHEN I HEARD SHE WAS RETIRED, TO SOME OF WAY BEFORE HER TIME.
i remember this carrier well it was i think mid 70s i went aboard her with my dads neighbour on a press day it was a fantastic experiance ill never forget she was moored in the solent out side portsmouth harbour united kingdom
I served on her from 5/70 to 10/72 she does not deserve the scrap yard or the ocean floor she served this country with dignity and honor and she should recieve the same in retirement (long live the JFK)
Not only was he a great president, the ship was a great ship. I was on that ship, worked on the flight deck from 1976 - 1978. KEEP KENNEDY as a MUSEUM in Boston
