I support this petition. As part of the airwing [RVAH-14]I made the first 2 med cruises and the goodwill cruise to Boston to show the Kennedy's the JFK "SAVE THE SHIP"
I support this petition. I also think a case could be made for outfitting "Big John" as a natural disaster relief ship. Mess tents and porta-potties could be set up on the flight deck and cot's in the hanger bay. Tampa, FL tried to get the USS Forrestal for their waterfront several years ago and a lot of the work has already been done to bring a carrier to the Tampa Bay area. The "Kennedy" could be anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico or the east coast of Florida in a day's steaming. HAZE GREY AND UNDERWEIGH !
I support this petition. But, I think a case could be made for setting up the "Kennedy" as a natural disaster ship and homeporting it in Tampa, FL. Mess tents could be setup on the flight deck and cots in the hanger bay. Big John could reach any disaster in the gulf of Mexico or on the east coast of Florida in a day's steaming.
I still support my ship today, I wish there was someway I could walk aboard her. I know I can't because I am disabled.
He still has my regrets, President JFK.
She is the last one of her class CVA 67.
I strongly support this petition.
Petty Officer ADJ2 Linwood Clark "Woody" ('71)
I support this petition.I served on Big John 1976 to 1980 when she was a showboat. V-1 Div. C&S crew. Let us not let her go down like the U.S.S. America CV-66.
I support this petition.
I HAD A TOUR ON THIS CARRIER WHEN WE ATTENDED AN AIR SHOW AT NAS NORFOLK . I WAS IN THE CANADIAN AIR FORCE . WE HAD OUR DASH-8 AIRCRAFT ON DISPLAY SO WE DID SOME SIGHTSEEING . THE CARRIER DID IMPRESS US . SO MANY PEOPLE ABOARD THAT YOU COULD NOT KNOW EVERYONE . ATM MACHINES ON BOARD DID IMPRESS ME PLUS THE GALLEY & ENTERTAINMENT CENTER . I KNOW U CAN'T KEEP THEM ALL BUT SINCE I WAS ABOARD THIS ONE IT WOULD BE NICE TO KEEP
I support this petition. Was attached to HM-12 during Suez
ops. The JFK served as our flagship. She should now be transfered to her namesake's hometown as a perpetual floating museum at either the Charleston Navy Yard or the JFK LIbrary. Let's try to
keep THIS ONE afloat--unlike the USS America (CV-66) that met a tragic & untimely fate!
I support this petition. I decommisioned the JFK in Mayport. We painted, removed gear, and cleaned it for museum condition. It was discussed and planned during the decom. It is in good condition and should be a museum.
I served on the Big John from 1990-1992. It would be great to step foot back on it to show my kids how big the ship really is and show them equipment and my work stations. "ABE"
I support this petition and believe the carrier, as a museum, would make a great compliment to the JFK library in Boston. I'm from Boston, so maybe I'm just a little bit biased of where its finally resting spot should be!
I support this petition. I served on her with VA-46 from 1974-1978, and again with VA-85 from 1983-1984. I also helped to retire her as a DOD contract from 2005-2007. Lets keep her around forever. There will never be anothe "Big John."
I was stationed on the J.F.K. with VS-22(S3-A aircraft) from 1982-86. I live 3 miles from where the ship is mothballed in Philadelphia and visit it often.
I am a Plankowner of the JFK, as was my father. My cousin also served about the JFK. We are the only family to have had 3 members serve on the JFK. Please preserve her....
I served some time on board Big John and I think to do anything but make a museum out of this great ship would be HUGE mistake. Long live this great ship and all it stood for along with the Man it is named after.
visit our site www.SAVETHEJFK.com. We wanted to bring it to Boston, but the ideal place would be a warm weather climate so it can be enjoyed all year long.
Please respect the memory of her namesake and all who served on her especally those who paid the ultimate price. No American carrier ever deserves the fate imposed on the USS America.
There is only one way to remember all of those thousands of men that gave their sweat and time in the performance of their duty. may this ship remind us of all who served and remain unknown and unacknowledged.
