It is inhumane for a civilized country to impose the most uncivilized punishment on children. In a recent Wayne State University School of Social Work study 95% of Michigan residents polled held that this is an unacceptable practice. We must urge lawmakers to impose the will of the people to give children a second chance and abolish life without parole sentences against children. These are death sentences for children.
Abolish Juvenile life without parole. Why give older people a chance for parole and not younger people who have not developed the thought process that adults have.
I am passionately opposed to the imposition of death in prison sentences for children, which is what juvenile life without parole means. In Michigan alone, there are over 300 prisoners sentenced before the age of 17. The U.S. is one of only two countries in the world to allow this practice, which is banned by the United Nations Convention of Human Rights. I additionally support the elimination of life sentences for adults; most other nations in the world do not sentence people to prison for natural life.
Abolish Juvenile Life Without Parole Sentences in the USA !!!!!!!!Pursuant to the Convention On the Rights of th Child, Article 37, the imposition of the death penalty or life without parole sentences on juveniles are prohibited and constitute a human rights violation.
I personally know juveniles with non-parolable life and not a single one of them is a lost cause. Preserve the human rights of children. I urge you to pass Second Chance Legislation instead of disposing of people who have had limited chances and choices in society.
It is shameful that we treat our youth this way. We should be intelligent to understand the studies on the human brain which have consistently shown that teens DO NOT have adequate decision making skills...we are so shameful.
Join the growing body of national and international support calling for an end to this unconscionable human rights violation against children in the USA.
Sending a person under 18 to jail for life is immoral and inhumane. While I'm sure certain crimes demand long sentences, to have someone who is not yet fully developed pay the consequences for their actions for the rest of their life is wrong.
