i don't know much about emo, but punk rock wasn't a fashion trend, it was a state of mind. unfortunately, it has been in hibernation since the late 70's, and posers are attempting to take its place. true punks were pissed off with the mainstream and being looked down upon, so created their own revolution. there wasn't a punk dress code (like studs, leather and whatnot) because they couldn't afford it. it was all do-it-yourself. they picked up trash and made it into an outfit. also, they didn't have to only like a certain type of music. true punk rock was, in fact, doing what you wanted and not caring what anyone said about it. as long as you were true to yourself and truely pissed off with how shitty the bloody world treated you, you were a true punk. sadly, only the fakes have survived, as with any good movement.
