This is a horrible law. I am amazed that 9 of the 11 circuit courts have upheld it. Only 1 the 4th circuit is examined the grammar which was used to write the law. Hopefully the Supreme court will weigh in on the fact that it is unconstitutional (US v. Hayes) I plead guilty to M3 simple assault. which in Pennsylvania is a argument or scuffle between consenting parties. The definition said nothing about domestic violence with in the crimes code. I was never told that I had just surrender my 2nd amendment rights until I went to apply for a carry permit 5 years later. In fact the District attorney and my own attorney explained to me that it was just a matter of paying a fine. I am horrified as I spent 10 years in the military and now work for the Department of Defense as a civilian employee. What makes it worse is that it is retro active to anyone who before 96 plead guilty to any other crime that involves family members. If that is not screwed up what is? Gee why isn\'t the ACLU up in arms over this? I wonder...
My gun is on hold with my FFL until the justice dept. get my court transcripts from1990 which had nothing to do with Domestic Violense and can't give me a time when this should accure. So there is no limitations how long they can hold your Gun while you wait?
I am an honorablly discharged vetran who waived my right to trial and pleaded guilty to a misdemnour domestic charge and have lost my civil liberties because of THIS? I wish I would have not served one day in the defense of our country . So much for freedom!
The Lautenberg Amendment is Unconstitutional. This amendment is preventing me from serving my country because of a rediculous gun control law that has no bearing what so ever on military service.
I did something stupid like shoving and smashing my own belongings to be convicted of a domestic with violence. I ahve not been in trouble since, which is over ten years, I am currently in a criminal justice program and understand how most of us got screwed. I feel that this amendment needs to be repealed because of how and who it effects. I payed my dent to the court and society and know i can't own or possess a firearm again. Because I made an immature mistake ate the just turned age of 18. What makes this amendment even sicker is the fact that they snuck it it as it had nothing to do with the piece of legislation that it was hidden in. Is this not a criminal act of deceit? Who are the real criminals, it gets harder and harder to tell these days!
I am In the military and have been convicted of a domestic violence misdemeanor from trying to leave the situation I was in and deffending myself. I am active duty military. I have never been in trouble with the law or military until now. This is my livelyhood and my way of life. If I can't posses a firearm I will lose my career. I believe that this amendment should be repealed. This amendment could ruin my life as well as my son's. He doesn't deserve that because he had no control over what happened. He did not ask for any of this but he might have to pay for it. It's not fair to good people
people change as they grow and some dont what i mean is if i was to commit this act when i was 18, what do you think of me when i am 35, there is a big difference and the lawmakers fail to see this, but they make everything else work in there interest, lets make it work for all the men and women out there that are in the military fighting for this country to allow stupid things to continue to happen
I don't think that ti is fair and just for the government to be able to violate our constitutional right for anything short of crimes with a firearm. If the family violence occured with a gun present I could understand. Otherwise I should be able to have my right to bear arms
The law is unconstitutional. If nothing else, it should not be retroactive. Prior to the law enactment, those that plead no contest would never have done so if it was known that you would be giving up a constitutional right.
