8 Oct 2005 - 0:26    Wade Jacoby : No doubt many people who have plead guilty or nolo contendre to Class A misdomeanor were not advised by their Counsel or the Court that they would lose their 2nd Amendment rights and that this lack of information has resulted in many more convictions through straight propation or deferred adjudication then would have otherwise occured. As for the ex post facto element, there is good reason it should be repealed on that alone, since those who were effected had no way of knowing the future consequence of their action in regards to their loss of 2nd Amendment rights. One of the primary differences between a misdemeantor and a felony conviction has always been the loss of some or all Civil Rights. The Lautenburg Act blurs this very important distinction. Finally, Lautenberg set a dangerous precedent, if not several of them. How would you like to wake up next week and find that you had lost your right to bear arms because you got a drunk driving charge 20 years ago? Think it couldn't happen? Think again. It is no different then what has been done here, and already the DWI laws are putting firearms restrictions on first time DWI offenders.
11 Oct 2005 - 5:13    Edward smith :
11 Oct 2005 - 23:52    Glenda Manos :
20 Oct 2005 - 11:38    Thomas Snell : Please give me back my right to feed my family.
21 Oct 2005 - 7:48    Justin Mooneyham : I was convicted of a simple misdeanor and now i cant join the military because of this stupid law that violates are rights
21 Oct 2005 - 8:10    Aaron Ellis : not only does the amendment overstep its boundaries, but it also does countless damage to what americans believe to be thier freedoms granted to them by the constitution, i worry that over the years federal lawmakers will pick and pick and pick until americans are left with little to no rights at all, unless the government says so. we did not build this country with the citizens blood and sweat, to watch a bunch of spoiled brats destroy our hard earned freedoms, states should be the ones who decide, they have a more hands on view of thier own people. personally i believe that people should be given a chance to make the wrongs in thier lives right, not punish them for the rest of thier lives upon the first offense.
6 Nov 2005 - 1:44    Rynold Jackson : As stated before, many defendants did not ever imagine that this law would have been enacted. It precludes good hard working Americans from joining the military and becoming peace officers. With the war on terror and eminent attack on U.S soil, we need every able body to do his/her part. Having a misdemeanor for domestice violence is quite broad. These misdemeanors are given for shoving, pushing, or simply protecting yourself. Wake up people. This law does nothing to stop domestic violence.
10 Nov 2005 - 9:00    Dennis Biggs :
11 Nov 2005 - 3:05    Scott Cunningham :
16 Nov 2005 - 5:42    shawn sweeney : I too want to protect our country against terroism and can not because of this cheesy ,hard to comprehend law lets all get together and destroy it,before it helps in destroying america!
17 Nov 2005 - 5:03    Lee Palmer : its time to repeal this BS
18 Nov 2005 - 0:23    james daves : This law is yet another example of laws being created that are unjust and utterly rediculous.by some in government that sit on their so called high horse and think they have the right to say what is moral and what is not when they have no idea of some of the circumstances and facts of alot of the lives of the men that they try to pass judgment on by making it impossible to join the military or law enforcement. In my opinion it is nothing more than an abuse of power

4 Jan 2006 - 10:39    Michael Simpkins : I support this petition. i served in the USMC 2nd Recon. I killed for my country. 10 years later I had several problems as with the law. i was convicted for a 4th degree misdemaeanor domestic violence. threatening dv which means I had the ability to commit dv but not do such a thing. My wife hit me 3x in the face and splahed boiling water at me. she was never touched and claim she was the evidence lack such however the courts in Ohio knew this and decided that the lack evidence was not domestic violence in its true form. however political agenda the prosecutor needed threatening dv means I have the potential. What crap. My lawyer recieves his fee and was willing to sacrifice my rights because it was simple to or he lacked the understanding of what the ramifications were. I wanted t apply for the border patrol which I believe I would be top notch for which the government has trained before. But I am a piece of **** as acitizen because I have political ****ers who have probably never had to protect there country or brothers in arms. We are not a free country burt a mockery of our founding fathers to achieve political favor or strwnghten big brohter to its full tuition. I am a college graduate and my wife is sincerely upset the the prosecutors mislead her decision of prosecution even when she refused to after the fact.
4 Jan 2006 - 11:05    Tia Simpkins : I support this petition. I screwed up. My husband is not a criminal and I made one call I wish i never made. The police. We have now more punishment than protection.
7 Jan 2006 - 22:29    Spc. Cesar E. Licea : I support this petition. As you by my title,i am still in the military till next month. I am be released from the National Guard due to the fact that i have a domestic misdemeanor against me from five years ago.Yet I was able to get in the military in 2004. Yes i committed a crime, and i did my time and took anger management classes, and passed. So why is it that i cannot serve my country? I cannot re-enlist or extend because of Lautenburg. I understand what he was tring to due, but it was doen in a very wrong way. Especially when it was put in the Treasury-Postal portion of the bill?
10 Jan 2006 - 6:35    Martin A Farley : I support this petition.I made a mistake one night with my girlfriend. She is now my loving wife we have 4 children .I am not able to hunt which is part of my heritage.Somthing i was hopeing to pass on to my son .Iwould love to be able to hunt and also protect my home as it is my right our fore fathers are rolling in the grave . I support this repeal
11 Jan 2006 - 1:52    Michael Gilbert : I support this petition.
14 Jan 2006 - 0:48    Joseph Hazelett : I support this petition. Everyone makes mistakes. As a soldier, I know how stressful military life can be. It is easy for the "brass" and politicians to use the L. amendment, but it doesn't address or resolve the real issue surrounding the domestic violence. Try treating the illness before trying an individual who likely needs counseling. Some people need the military to support their families, and have no higher education or experience in any other field. How many unemployable people will be the result of this unconstitutional act? Doesn't it stand to reason that anyone affected by the L. amendment is likely to end up in a worse situation than before; and, if so, doesn't it also stand to reason that the stress and hoplessness of that situation could lead to further violence?
14 Jan 2006 - 1:57    Vickie Burns : I support this petition.
14 Jan 2006 - 9:36    R. Rocha : I support this petition.
14 Jan 2006 - 9:58    M.S. Wolfe : I support this petition. My rights and freedoms will never be taken away as long as I live! A bunch of good men died in wars for us to have the right to keep and bear arms. Aman or woman that gets angry and throws a telephone out in the yard DOES NOT have a thing to do with gun violence! There are people that dont need guns, but people that experience a human emotion wich is normal, like a angry wife that never been in trouble in her life and throws water in her husbands face is not a danger to society. This is simply an excuse to take away guns from Americans. This is one of those anti-American laws that if its not repealed, it should be ignored! Thank God for the NRA!
17 Jan 2006 - 6:02    Emma Coleman : I support this petition.
17 Jan 2006 - 6:55    Mark LaBorde : I support this petition.
20 Jan 2006 - 14:49    Rashaan Porter : I support this petition. I was arrested for Domestic Violence but once I appeared before the judge I was charged with a class c misdemenor for fighting in public. I don't understand why this should effect me protecting my home. Being actually charged with domestic violence is one thing, but the final judgement was fighting in public. This happens everyday at school, work, and on military installations. Soon America will be defenseless.
21 Jan 2006 - 0:10    Carlton Gray : I support this petition.
