Team Rocket: Love and The Origin of Youth was due to air in the United States on October 2nd and 3rd, 2004, having had previously aired in Japan. The main focus of this special was to emphasize Team Rocket’s main outlook, while showing their outlook on their life as well. The specials are rarely dubbed, and as of February 2005, the company has decided to air only one out of the fifteen specials in the U.S., Mewtwo Returns. While some of the specials are not dubbed for obvious reasons, Team Rocket: Love and The Origin of Youth is clearly one that should be dubbed into English. Much of the fandom is based on Team Rocket, since a great deal of the Ash fans are too young to comprehend the Pokemon fandom in general. Although some might call the said special “timeline trouble,” I believe that Love and Origin would be somewhat necessary for the American fans.
Being in America, 4kids Entertainment has offered us little to no background information on Team Rocket. The only episodes providing any real Team Rocket information were “Holy Matrimony,” “Go West Young Meowth,” “The Bridge Bike Gang,” “Ignorance is Blissey,” “The School of Hard Knocks,” and possibly, “Snow Way Out.” Almost all of Jessie’s history was wiped out from the American version, 4kids completely ignoring the importance of Jessie’s mother, Miyamoto, to her behavior. Miyamoto played an extremely important role to the Mew and Mewtwo story, as well as having had been one of the greatest Team Rocket agents in the organization’s history. It is also believed that Miyamoto, having had been such a successful agent, was the reason for Jessie’s joining to the organization in the first place. Also, Team Rocket’s founder, Madam Boss, was never even mentioned in the English version of Pokemon, along with Mondo, who only appeared in the Japanese CD drama.
