I'm majoring in Engineering and I hate the hell out of math. But--contrary to the consensus--not ALL engineers are thrilled about math. We engineers simply use math as a tool to help us achieve accurate and desirable results. But I do dislike seemingly useless topics such as logarithms and derivatives and I believe that mastery in some aspects of math, should NOT be mandatory in order to earn a degree in Engineering; but rather, an option.
Maths hasn't been the same since the 20's when it was fresh and exciting, but everything was fresh and exciting in the 20's. Maths quickly became stale and throughout the decades it has become something of a joke which the youth of today point and laugh at and shout "Hey grandad, get off the bandwagon and put down the fucking anvil!" I think the whole tasteless episode and maths should be relegated to two midweekly shows on BBC2 where it belongs. That'll teach 'em bloody kids.

I partly support this petition. I think math should only be taught as an essential course up to the stuff you do when your in grade 7/8. Algebra should be taken as an optional elective course. It's ridiculous the stuff they teach beyond that and how un-useful and a waste of time it is, same goes with gym class.

it might seem like a drag now, but once you actually need to live on you'r on, or even simpler when you go to collage, math will be everything you need. im far from a geeky-ass kid that likes algebra, im more of a person that enjoys a challenge, and wants a house on the beach in so-cal for the surf.

Lets put together an organization that will seek out and put an end to what we know as algebra? All we have to do is put a stop to the multi-billion dollar business that is college algebra.
look folks, math just sucks. It isnt supposed to be hard like how schools are making it. If you get your jollies from math, you are a fruitcake. Where is math 'needed'? I hear all kinds of people talking about how certain subject areas are 'math intensive' or, you will need a 'lot of math for that' and so on. Thats all people do is tell you things but never actually help. I am still firm in my position that math is not needed despite the fact that countless others think that math is needed. I say fuck math and fuck anyone else that thinks math is neccessary. This includes any college grads, professors, and pretty much white people in general. Once again I am still right.

Just when things start to make sense, someone else has to come along and state that another person is a 'fucker' or is a twelve year old that dropped out of sixth grade. I personally have a much bigger view of the 'big picture' and will still contend that math for the most part is unnecessary. Just stop by your local library or college bookstore and find an electronics book. The average person on the street that has a basic math background can perfom all of the equations contained inside. Unless you are doing some esoteric work in electronics, then yes that will require some high power math. But what the hell are computers for? Good lord people. It is 2005 not 1955. I am still under the impression that we are living in the past. It might as well be 1905 with all of the mexican immigrants....

It's so funny to hear all the people who hate math. Without math, you'd be sitting in a cave trying to make fire right now. You wouldn't have cars, TV's, houses, buildings, computers, roads, running water, electricity, refrigerators, microwaves, clocks, money, etc. I need not go on...get used to it, guys. Math is here, math is good, and unless you intend to go into the garbage collection business, you're going to need it.
