The students of Sam Houston State University humbly request the continuation of the Modern British Myth Makers course, taught by Dr. Darci Hill. We believe that the principles which it offers are invaluable to the education and understanding of the students here represented. The texts used in this course are derived from the epic poetry which is the foundation of modern English narrative and lyric and are clear examples of the use of old knowledge manifest into new literature. The use of language taught is a tutorial display of creativity coupled with competence. With stories like The Fellowship of the Ring, The Magician's Nephew, and The Great Divorce, Dr. Hill faithfully teaches the art of, rhetorical style, plot, characterization, and even the Romantic and Germanic origins of our language. These divisions of the study of literature are essential to both fundamental and exhaustive research, competence, and creativity; Dr. Hill teaches these principles with texts written by modern masters of the language, English Dons of our time. Those here signed consider it necessary to the education of ourselves and our successors that the Modern British Myth Makers course continue to be taught at Sam Houston State University. Please consider our request to preserve this course, which has endowed its students with an understanding and love of literature unique within its field.

Tolkien and Lewis rock hardcore. This class is a necessary part of English education since it teaches us the importance of modern writing. These are great stories and have important lessons that we can all learn from. Please bring it back!

I remember how excited I was that a class like that was offered at SHSU. Extinguishing its light will only diminish the English department and its leaders, and threaten to infect students with boredom. Symptoms start out mildly with chronic yawning, but by the time 4 years are over it will progress in to full blown small mindedness and apathy. The small can only teach the small, but the big can teach all.

It would be a great tragedy to lose the Myth makers class at SHSU. I have never been more challenged in my thinking then when I attempted to rightly think through all the material we covered in Dr. Hill's class. One of the greatest thoughts a man could have is over his personal responsibility to Truth. I think it is our responsibility to see that we do not take away one of the best classes that could help this generation from being utterly selfish and intellectually retarded.
