The fact that MCR has a huge and devoted following and also a group of people who truly hate them means that MCR is doing something right. If MCR made EVERYBODY happy then they would be indistinguishable and just like everyone else.
"I'm Not OK" does sound a bit teeny bopper but they have so many songs that are so much better than that one, I Love "Thank You For The Venom" "I'm Not OK" was a hit because it sounded like everyone else at the time. You can’t have a hit unless you sound like everyone else.
Which brings me to my second point, mediocre people with mediocre taste never like anything that is new. They want to hang on the old stale status quo. I remember how hip hop was hated in the 80's. It happened with Nirvana and Green Day in the early 90's. The people who hated them were listening to Fire House, Trixter, Jackyl and Winger at the time. Who??
