We, the students of the University of California are calling for the transformation of the Middle Eastern South Asian Studies Minor to become a Major at the Davis campus.

A Bachelors of Interdisciplinary Studies on Middle Eastern/ South Asian issues provides an unyielding institution on the Davis campus for students wishing to understand the historical and contemporary topics of the Middle East and South Asia to further their professional careers.

Graduates with a specialization in Middle East/ South Asian Studies are greatly advantageous in the fields of business, law, education, and governmental service, especially as the importance of this region increases in a rapidly globalizing world.

By having this major available to us, students have the option to select courses from a variety of departments and schools, including History, Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Art and Design, and Modern and Classical Languages, which will provide us with an exceptional education that the current Minor can not fulfill.

Also, with the presence of other cultural/regional studies majors like African American Studies, Asian American Studies, and Chicano/Latino Studies, which provide UCD students the option of earning B.A. degrees in these fields, than the precedence must be maintained for another cultural/regional studies minor that also seeks the same goals in an equally legitimate and renown department, to offer its students the option of earning a B.A. as well.
