I feel this is incredibly wrong...what happend to freedom of speech? Or was that something that has been thrown out the window? Does anyone remember George Orwell's 1984? Censorship is what gives power to tyrants, and I'll die before I let a tyrant take my freedom away from me, especially my freedom of speech. LJ don't like it? They can kiss my ass. And its my free right to say that as well!
It is natural, through the creative arts, to attempt to understand or reconcile the acts of and motives behind some of society's more offensive activities. That does not, and in fact highly rarely, means condoning it.
I was considering getting a paid account, but not after this fiasco. I refuse to support censorship in anyway, especially on the internet. I always enjoyed LJ and never thought that they would pull such a stunt as this. I am definately taking everything over to greatestjournal.com, as they still support the First Amendment.
LJ fell victim to a witch hunt. And instead of sitting back to think, they took action. Worried about losing sponsors? I would be more worried about the amount of members that they will and have lost over this.
I fully believe in my rights to freedom of speech. I am not intending to hurt anyone, nor do I ever wish to, but please do not persecute us as harmful individuals, when all we do is write, or read, fanfiction. This is my human right.
These Warriors For Innocence are nothing more than a bunch of right wing nutjobs. They're bigotted and intolerant of views that differ from their own. The problem is, they're organized and are willing to push and push until companies like Six Apart have no choice but to cave in to their childish demands.LJ has a part in this, but the majority of the blame should go to these
There is no clear-cut evidence that WFI is a recognized government agency, and for LJ to suspend or delete over-18 member only groups without warning just because of WFI's say-so is ridiculous. And for them to neglect to make a statement addressing these concerns to the general LJ populace is sheer cowardice on their part. They have a responsibility to keep us informed as to why they're doing what they're doing.
LJ's Terms of Service clearly state that any violaters will be given a chance to change what's violating the ToS. Were these banned communities even given a chance to chage what was on their *interest* lists before they were deleted? I think not.
Disgraceful and ridiculous. I understand taking away certain communities but to blindly hack at the users who have continuously supported your site for years? That is damn well disgraceful.
Communities designed for over 18s to post and read fan fiction are the wrong target for rabid vigilantes, look closer to home people and stop trying to take away reading material.
