this makes me want to leave Livejournal and go to Xanga or Open Diary. i am unbelievably disappointed in Livejournal and wish i had never spent $50 to get two years of paid priveleges, and I know that I will never get a permanent account, even if they are $1. If this is not put to right soon, I will not renew my paid subscription and will move my journal elsewhere where I do not have to be afraid of what i write.
This is ridiculus. This woman bases her alligations on no grounds what-so-ever. Lj needs to grow a back bone and stand up for those who are its blood and lifehood.
I am very displeased to find that LJ apparently cares more about the ravings of a shady vigilante group than it's 13 million users. A number I expect is going to be dropping DRASTICALLY.
I am not even a part of the suspended communities and I believe what LJ did was wrong. Free speech and the fact that these stores were FICTION should come into play!
Where a journal for friends to gather together to discuss common interests is no longer a place for friends to get together and discuss common interests, what's left?
LJ has screwed up big time. I support stopping online predators - but they're not doing this the right way. Too many innocent people are getting hurt. If they keep this up, I will not buy another paid account!!!
I do not agree with actual incest or pedophilia or any of that crap, but I feel that banning works of fiction and leaving the authors no recourse is insidious. What happens when some sponsor complains about 'fluffy bunnies' in my profile? Will you come for me then?
This is fiction, it is not illegal to talk about such things and most of these stories mention how rape is BAD. The stories don't CONDONE it.Freedom of speech is a powerful thing, maybe Livejournal will learn it.
This is ridiculous, Livejournal. You have no right to censor fiction in this way. If this is the kind of community you're trying to create, one where you decide what is appropriate, you should realize that you will be alienating over half of your users.
FICTION IS FANTASY! FAN-FICTION WRITTEN ABOUT FANTASY CHARACTERS ISN'T ILLEGAL...IT'S FICTION PROTECTED BY OUR RIGHT OF FREE SPEECH...AND EVEN ALLOWED BY OUR FANDOM CREATOR..AS LONG AS NO PROFIT IS RECEIVED!GET YOUR HATE AND IGNORANCE AWAY FROM MY FREE SPEECH!
I cannot agree more. Just because one word of our interests falls into your taboo category doesn't justify the permanent suspension of fan fiction communities.
People who write chan are no more pedophiles than people who write about murder are murderers. It is a preposterous accusation to make. Chan is controvertial and offensive to many people, but it is precisely in the right to deal with such controvertial topics that the freedom of speech lies. What other controvertial themes will LiveJournal be cracking down on next?
While the site is privately owned and operated and they are entitled to be as foolish as they want, I think this is an over reaction, especially after reviewing literature on the matter. Their actions have made nothing any more or less safe than it was before. I question the legitimacy of the
Well, I definitely won't be buying the lifetime membership like I originally was planning to do this June. Until you can grow some guts and learn how to really go after paedophiles, get stuffed, SixApart.
