Hi my name is Rebecca Caraballo I live in Salisbury Township, Pa. A Salisbury Township police officer shot and killed my dog. My dog had escaped from my home and was out walking the streets of Salisbury. I made numerous calls to the department about my dog being at large. I made the department clearly aware that my 12 year old dog, with arthritis does not like other dogs but would never hurt a human. My dog proceeded to a home of another dog and got into a fight with this other dog. I was told by police that my dog was viscously attacking this dog and tried to attack the owner of the dog. When I spoke to the owner she stated never once did my dog try to harm her. She stated the police got out of their car and shot my dog. Three police to be exact. I asked her if they first tried to stop my dog by other means and she said no, they just shot him. Funny enough the dog he was scraping with did not sustain any damages not even a stitch. Her vet bill was only $169.99. Her dog was released immediately after being see by the vet. The police made me believe that her dog was mauled to death. If my dog was so violent her dog would have had damages and not released with no treatment.
In November of 2006 my dog was out of my yard at large and proceeded to fight with another dog. The teenage female owner of that dog brought my dog home and said that she removed him from fighting with her dog. She will testify that never once did she feel afraid my dog would hurt her. She even stated she knows how some dogs do not like other dogs. I know the cops stereotyped my dog based on his breed. They did not try to stun my dog or tranquilize him. They shot him in cold blood. Plus they first shot my dog in the side of him body and proceeded to then execute him by putting a bullet between his eyes. It was not necessary to shot him twice. They shot him and then looked right in his eyes and put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. THAT IS MURDER!!! I wonder why after shooting him once they could not call me and tell my to rush him to the hospital to try to save him from the first bullet. Instead they executed him. This dog has been in my family’s life for 12 years I delivered this dog from him mothers womb. My children 12, 6 and 2 have not lived a day of their life without this dog. When we went to the department to identify my dogs body the police took my 12 year old behind the police department where they had dumped his body which was in a black plastic bag, then he was thrown next to their police dumpster as if he was garbage. NO RESPECT for my dog or family. They knew we were coming the could have at least showed us his body in a more humane manner. On top of that the detective of the department told my family in front of my co worker that it was my family’s fault that their police office shot my dog. My 12 year old had to listen to this verbal abuse done by the detective. The police not only took my dogs life, and dumped him like he was garbage but traumatized my child by their inappropriate comments. They knew we were coming to identify his body for them to make us open this bag and see him the way we did was not professional in anyway. I feel we were treated with disrespect and made a joke of by this department. The murdering officer had nerve to brag about this shooting to someone I know, and their daughter called and told me about him bragging about it. This is not funny nor an ego trip. .I want justice for my dog and my family. We have started a petition of those who knew how sweet and loving this dog was to people.
