No More Naruto Filler on Cartoon Network
Published November 13, 2007
Cartoon Network, please do not air the Naruto-filler-sagas--just skip straight to Naruto Shippuuden (the second part of the Naruto story). The 85-episodes of crappy Naruto filler (episodes 136 - 220) that follow the Sasuke-retrieval arc (current arc), are poorly written, poorly animated, and do not follow the spirit of Naruto at all. Everyone who watched them in Japanese agrees--they're not worth dubbing. Do not torture your English audience by forcing them to watch 1.6 straight-years of crappy filler.

Most English-viewers do not understand what filler is, why it exists*, or that it is different from the main-storyline, and they'll simply say, "Yeah, Naruto used to be good, but now it sucks, so I stopped watching it."

At the very least, air the filler along with Naruto Shippuuden under some different title, like "Naruto: Sidestories", to clearly distinguish them from the main-storyline.

*Note: For those of you that don't know, anime often has filler because the manga, which the anime follows, only produces 1-chapter per week, whereas the anime converts 2-manga-chapters per week into episodes, meaning the anime will eventualy catch up to the manga. They create filler episodes (episodes which weren't in the original manga) to give the manga more time to get ahead. Unfortunately, filler usually sucks. Naruto's filler is exceptionally bad. Episodes 97 - 99 and 101 - 106 were examples of crappy filler. Expect a to watch that for the next 1.6 years after the Sasuke retrieval arc.
