People need to see and understand the conditions that these poor animals live their lives in. These are feeling, loving creatures and they are bred to death, all for the sake of "the dollar" and then tossed aside when they have served their purpose. Please help put an end to this!

I recently completed my dog trainer training and have been working with my mentor Jena for about 30 weeks. In that time I have been amazed and saddened by many dogs that are a product of puppy mills. The public needs to be aware of the emotional, physical and behavioral problems that often accompany these dogs who are taken home by a family who is not prepared for what's to come. Too often these dogs are abandoned and left chained up outside, dumped, taken to a shelter and/or euthanized. In the meantime, the mills continue to make money and puppies that are set up to fail from day one. Please bring this issue to light and help stop this from happening.

This subject needs to be addressed to the public NOW! There are tens of thousands of puppies that are dieing each year because of this crime. Their are seven states that are known as puppymill states because they have the majority of the pupymills. The following states are the puppymill states Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania. What people are doing to their animals is in humane and needs to stop immediately. This is the kind of activity that goes on in 3rd world countries. Their is a federal law concerning this kind of activity called the Animal welfare Act but theirs no point of even having the law if it is not going to be enforced which it currently is rarely enforced. Something needs to be don’t about this and if we educate more people about this inhumane activity then this will stop but until we do thousands of defenseless animals will die.

Oprah, Do what you do best and that is educating the public. Please expose the horrors of buying puppies from puppy mills and to stress the fact to go to shelters to adopt their new companion. Millions of dogs are put to death every day because their time has run out at these over crowded shelters. As a fellow animal (dog) lover, I'm sure you are behind these causes. Your counter part Phil McGraw got a new puppy and expressed the urgency to go to shelters to adopt a new pal. Non profit animal organizations can't thank him enough for the world wide exposure! Think of your own animals and then do the right thing!Help us expose these people!

Having rescued a terribly abused dalmatian which is a very sweet loving animal I have witnessed first hand the horror to which these precious animals are exposed. Savannah came to me with heart worms, tape worms, intestinal worms, worn teeth from biting herself because of fleas, scars from having to live and sleep on concrete and many other maladies; but she it still a loving trusting friend who devotes herself to my protection. It is beyond my imagination that such a bundle of love and affection could have been kept in such conditions having litter after litter and then thrown out when she could no longer produce live pups. PLEASE HELP US SHOW THE WORLD WHAT REALLY HAPPENS IN PUPPY MILLS...

Oprah, I purchased my puppy at a pet store and, while I knew she did not come from a place that took great care of her, she is perfect. She does have some fears that derivied from her treatment prior to her joining our family. I am saddened by the life she had when she was first born. I love her like my own child and I know that when you love your child, it hurts you to know that your child had been mistreated and no one listend to you to make it stop!

Your views are well respected by so many across the nation and this would be a phenomenal venue to expose the horrors to many. Thank you so much for considering this. You could help educate millions!

Oprah, I know you love your dogs are a responsibile pet owner. Please help to educate others as to the horrors of puppy mills and other forms of irresponsible breeding. I have been a breeder of Irish Wolfhounds for more than 30 years. I am also a dog trainer, animal behaviorist, veterinary technician and my husband is a c=veterinarian. We have much first hand knowledge of the medical and behavioral problems which result from porrly bred pets. Every puppy born to us is our responsibility for its entire life...not just until it is paid for. We add each puppy buyer to our circle of friends and stay in contact with them regarding their new family member. We spend much time and money making sure that every puppy we produce is as healthy as possibile, as free from genetic problems as pre and post breeding testing can assure, is well socialized prior to placement in its new home and that the new home is an appropriate and educated one. We often steer people to other breeds if they are not suited for a Wolfhound, regardless of how much money they offer for one of our pups. Dogs are living breathing souls who deserve a good life. Puppy mills, pet stores, internet sites and other commercial sources for the purchase of a dog care only about $$$. Please help!

The Oprah Show has an unbelieveable capacity to educate. Please, use that capacity to educate about the damage done to millions of dogs through the irresponsibility of many breeders. There will always be those who, in spite of the millions of dogs euthanized each year, will want a purebred puppy. I accept that. But at least educate them as to how to ensure they are purchasing an emotionally and physically healthy puppy. And make them aware of the suffering they participate in when they purchase from a pet store. Make them aware of the failure of our government to regulate breeders. Make them aware that "AKC registered" is meaningless. Help the public understand.

There are many devoted people who are willing to work towards this cause, however the State refuses to help us. Additional areas needing help are spaying and neutering of pets and pets tied outside to boxes that are lucky to see their owners once a day for food and maybe a drink of water. Thank you.

Please use this power to influence and educate to show the American public what atrocities puppy mills are and also educate them on where that "puppy in the window" comes from. There are MILLIONS of homeless animals looking for a forver home and until there are no homeless animals, there should be no puppy mills or "puppies in the window."

Pennsylvania is one of the largest puppy mill states in the country. My neighbor is a large animal vet and is frequently asked to vaccinate breeder dogs for rabies only. Thank you Bethany for sending this to me and for the work you are doing to protect animals. I normally don't sign petitions, however, I went to the prisoners of greed website and was appalled by what I saw there. Oprah - I hope you take the time to view this site as well. Please take a look at Jurgen's story. The pictures of his condition is enough to make you sick - it is horrible that any animal be put through that kind of treatment. It was interesting to me that the pictures of the mills all seemed to be in isolated places, tucked away behind or in old buildings...maybe that is sign enough to us that what they are doing is wrong when they are trying to hide it. Please help educate the public on what is happening in these mills. I know I have been enlightened by viewing this site.
