Our Akita club of america rescued over a 100 Akitas from a puppy mill several years back and the abuse was overwhelming.The rumor has always been - many of the mills are allowed to exsist because the big dog food companies are in those areas and its more customers for their product at the end of the day.
I would hope that is more fiction than fact. Stop real animal abuse, end puppy mills.
Oprah: You have used your strengths and resources to better the lives of people. Please use those same gifts to help the lives of these deserving animals.

I know you care about animals-think about how good your own dogs have it-and open some eyes to the horror that is a puppy mill. prevent the misery, rather than try to deal with the problems that are rampant in backyard breeder conditions. expose it, it might make people stop asking " how much is that doggy in the window?" the price is TOO high, resulting in sickness, chronic health problems, & a society with a throw away mentality
Oprah please expose the horrors that these poor defenseless go through everyday. These places care nothing about the animals, their biggest concern is lining their pockets. These poor animals live in small cages and are uncared for and unloved. They need our help. Please be the voice of reason to stop the vicious cycle and expose the cruelty of puppy mills. Thank you.
Ignorance is no excuse for allowing puppy mills and backyard breeders to exist. Please be their voice - they need all the help they can get. Animals need to be adopted into loving homes - not sold as disposable property.
Only when the spotlight from a recognized personality shines on these atrocities, will a method of punishment be formed. Oprah is such a light, and we rescuers - AND THE TORTURED SOULS WE ENDEAVOUR TO AID - desperately need her help! In God's name, please help His creatures.

I think people need to be informed about what exactly a puppy mill or backyard breeder is and how mistreated these animals are. The best exposure is on your show as I know you are a dog lover yourself. Please do this for all the mistreated dogs that cant speak for themselves!
Please help educate people on puppy purchase and dog ownership. There are 1,000s of great adult dogs waiting for good homes --puppy ownership takes commitment - and 1,000s of "puppies" end up in shelters when they grow into "dogs" that have had no training. Pet Owner education is a SORELY overlooked issue in our culture - and the animals are paying the price. I work for my local Humane Society and see dogs turned over to shelters becase "he started to chew" - the dog was 8 months old! Puppy mills abuse the mothers, create overpopulation, and do NOT make any effort to educate the public about dog ownership. PLEASE use your amazing influence to save the lives of orphaned dogs and puppy-mill mothers everywhere.

I watch your show all the time and apprciate everything I have learned, which is a lot. I would love to see you educate the U.S. on it's overpopulation of cats and dogs. I know you're a dog lover and this problem is getting way out of hand. If you need a reference please watch the film Best Friends Forgotten by Julie Loften. This film will take you through a journey of one cat and dog who are picked up by animal control and where they will go from that point. We do have a problem here in the U.S. I believe it's because we need to educate the public on spay and neuter. We need to have set up FREE spay and neuter clinics in low income areas (something the Illinois Senator Don Harman) is working on. Plus...we need to address the source of where many of these dogs are coming from. Breeders and Back yard Breeders.(And by the way, there is a fine line between the two and the only thing governing this practice is their own moral values)AKC does nothing to govern this profession. They just register with AKC and become a Breeder!) I would like to see more regulation of everyone that calls themself a Breeder. We kill 30,000 dogs alone in Chicago alone each year and aprox. 120,000 cats. I think we need to look to Switzerland who's approach to animal welfare far surpasses ours. Thank you.

As a volunteer at our local humane society, I just cry when I leave, because I know that so many will not be adopted but instead put to death. Puppy mills perpetuate the endless cycle of unwanted, abandoned animals that end up at places like this. Please consider doing a show on this and exert your muscle to end this inhumane practice, because they have no voice and have no choice.
Please help bring awareness to this horrific existence of living breathing souls. They suffer horribly in puppy mills, their puppies are sold with no regard to what their new home will be like, and many, many are only born to die as they are abandoned, abused and thrown away. Please help - they have no voice, so wouldn't you be a voice for the voiceless? Please.

Help save dogs from living a life of torture in the puppymills. I'm a nobody, but I am doing what I can to help the prisoners of puppymills. I help with rescuing and fostering these poor souls. They didn't ask to be put in a mill and be puppy machines. They don't get food or water and no vet care. Oprah, Dog spelled backwards is God. To help bust these puppymills would be helping God.

Animals don't have a voice so we have to be theirs! I have a VERY SMALL HOUSE and I have rescued 6 dogs from a life of LIVING HELL. The latest is a 9 week old puppy that was beaten, broken legs, starved to the point of losing its hair and getting a heart murmer and anemia and had open wounds and burns all over it 4 of his littermates didnt make it....If I could save EVERYONE I would.My dream is to have a farm and just take in all teh dogs that need love and healing, If I win the lottery you all will be the first to know and until then we must try to right what is wrong in the world starting with stonger punishments for animal abusers and puppy mills etc...COME ON OPRAH! We are faithful to you everyday, help us out, this is good karma!
You have individually accomplished so much informing vast numbers of people on various important issues. This industry is based on abusive conditions and greed. Personally, I have two Minpins that lived such horrific conditions that the effects will last forever. This will continue to occur until the public is educated and pet stores stop selling these dogs. Please take time to investigate and reach your own conclusions about what is right and just. Thank you and hope that you will help stop this suffering.

practice that causes pain and suffering for both the animals and the people who but dogs without understanding the suffering that they are perpetuating and don't know the potential health and temperament problems that come with a large number of puppymill dogs.
