I am a dog breeder Even if you could find a puppy mill without atrocious conditions, it's not responsible breeding they are practicing. Their puppies are still sold to anyone without regard to their future. All puppies should have a breeder who is responsible for them their entire lives. A puppy mill cannot offer that as they are only responsible to their pocketbooks.
I am the new owner of two mill rescues Cairn Terriers. The stories behind these mill dogs will break your heart over and over. We need to find a way to get the word out and somehow regulate or abolish these mills. It is beyond sad. This whole experience has been quite an education for me. I will continue to tell everyone who will listen what I learned. There is strength in numbers.
I can't think of a topic more worthy of Oprah! Exposing the horrifying puppy mills--and the backyard breeders who help populate the local pet stores--would be a most deserving topic for discussion!
When God had made the earth and sky
the flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
the fish, the birds and bees.
And when at last He'd finished
not one was quite the same.
He said, "I'll walk this world of mine
and give each one a name."
And so He traveled far and wide
and everywhere He went,
a little creature followed Him
until it's strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth
and in the sky and sea,
the little creature said, "Dear Lord,
there's not one left for me."
Kindly the Father said to him,
"I've left you to the end.
I've turned my own name back to front
and called you dog, My friend."

These places desperately need to be abolished! The tortured breeding stock produces more puppies constantly, esp. towards Christmas, then casually pitching the older stock when they become old or ill. Thousands of homeless dogs wait for forever homes, destined to be put down eventually when one is not available. Meanwhile, the puppy farms continue to produce more and more puppies, thoughtlessly bred and raised. This is a terrible situation.
Oprah I am a big dog lover and they do not deserve to be treated this way. When people get caught and charged they normally do not have to serve anytime. That is not right. Please do what you can. Thanks for caring.
Oprah, I know there are a lot of important issues and it may seem that puppies are not that important. These mills are torture to our little friends who are unable to defend themselves. You have so much impact on important issues. Thank you, Donna p.s. I am an e.r. nurse and I do see a lot of suffering.
This is a BIG problem, SAVING animal lives should be on everyones list so we would not have puppymills or thousands of dogs killed in pounds,
We need people like YOU to influence and spread the word.
If you want to make a real difference in the animal world spread the word
The way people treat animals is a reflection on their soul. Please bring attention to the puppy breeders that are in to it for the money not the love of the animal
What an incredible thing you could do by having a show on this. The public is truly not aware of the horror behind the pet store. Even the employees are ignorant to where these dogs come from. PLEASE HELP THE VOICELESS!!!
Please help expose puppy mills for what they truly are: greedy nests of inbreeding, cruelty, filth and ignorance. You know how much your own 4-footers give back...
There have been numerous prosecutions of these "mills" and the awful conditions in our area in the last couple of years. If the public boycotts them, they will go out of business..
PLEASE do a show on puppy mills so that people will be informed and not buy a pet from them. It would make you sick if you saw the conditions these dogs live in.
This is a BIGGER problem then fat people and their stupid problems, SAVING lives should be on everyones list so we would not have puppymills or thousands of dogs killed in pounds,
We need people like YOU to influence and spread the word.
If you want to make a real difference in the animal world spread the word
Oprah, You have brought many issues to the attention of Americans. Some of this issues were hard hitting and difficult for people to accept. But because of you, people are now aware and better educated. Please consider doing a show about this horrific issue - puppymills and how the beautiful creatures suffer within them. TAKE ACTION NOW! YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!
Oprah - please help to expose and educate about puppy mills. I work with Great Dane Resuce Inc. here in Ontario and have adopted two rescue danes. Their stories would break your heart. Please bring this horrid situation to light in the hopes of better laws and enforcement of those laws, with the hope of one day ending it once and for all.
Oprah, you of all people have the ability to change people's lives and bring public awareness to millions of people within one hour. Others, such as myself, wish we could but do not have the means. So we do it on a small scale.
PLEASE PLEASE do a show on pupply mills/animal cruelty. It may not be as exciting as giving away cars, giving out scholarships or introducing Barry Manilow to the "#1 Fan" but I guarantee the reward will feel just as good.
If and when you do this story, PLEASE FEATURE THE HEARTS THAT RESCUE THESE FORGOTTEN ANIMALS - the Rescue network is working every minute to help all animals.
Oprah - I could tell you true stories of puppy mills that would make you cry, stories of the animals that have come out of these horrible places that would make men cry. This is one of the most ignored horrors in our country that people are so ignorant about. Most that know, turn a cheek.
Puppy mills add to the terrible problem of pet overpopulation and the mills are responsible for inbreeding, poor care, etc. They care about nothing but the dollar.
Every time someone buys a cute puppy from a pet store- they doom even more of these precious creatures to a life of misery. We are saving the one at the pet store BUT we are making things worse for the dogs left to breed more and more in cages in a shed.
Anyone who breeds should only be doing it to better their breed by health screening. All pet quality pups should only go into excellent, responsible homes with spay/neuter contract and limited registration. There are FAR too many dogs dying every day because there aren't enough homes. NEVER BREED FOR GREED, which is exactly what puppy millers are doing.
Researching this issue is extremely vital! People magazine just praised a 16-year old kid as an entrepreneur for selling puppies over the internet. What a great message to send to our children!
I would be happy to come on your show to discuss the rescue situation for dogs. Without puppymills and unethical backyard breeders, rescue would not be as overflowing with dogs as we are. Please help us get the word out and provide public education.
A show about puppy mills would certainly get notice from the public. Are we to believe that Oprah Winfrey finds this too trivial an issue? Please say it isn't so!
Please show what goes on in a puppy mill. It's a horrific experience to see the photos! Please show the wonderful and so adoptable dogs in the shelters across the U.S. If the puppy mills don't exist, just think of all the suffering you will be helping to alleviate! Thank you!
People like Brittainy Spears who buy from pet stores (read *puppy mill*) get tons of publicity, yet the horror behind the dogs sold in those stores is glossed over. Celebrity attention to the plight of these poor animals that create these cute puppies would be such a boon to the public...greater celebrity attention to this kind of education would be so valuable to the general public, who doesn't know any better.
