I have fosters dachshunds from puppy mills and I can tell you the abuse these animals face. I have brought into my home a dog that has never seen the inside of a home, that has never been touched by a gentle human hand, that is unfamiliar with the sounds of a phone ringing, the TV, a doorbell, sweet talk and has NEVER been shown affection. What is the saddest part of all of this is that these dogs are only wanted until they can no longer produce puppies. Most of them will be put down when they are no longer able to make money for their owner. Those dogs have never experienced a life and their only crime was being born beautiful. People will be thounds of dollars for a dachshund with a piebald color pattern (most commonly referred to as tri-color). The only way a breeder can get this pattern is to breed two dapple dachshunds together. The end result is that most piebalds are born deaf and blind and are put down at birth. The few that remain are so rare that people pay big bucks for these dogs. Thankfully, the AKC recognizes the brutality and will not recognize a piebald as show quality so as not to encourage this type of breeding. Unformtunately, some people do not care and puppy mills will always take on the risk in order to feed their greed. Puppy mills are not quality, the dogs suffer, sometimes new owners are led down a path of unknowns and the only winner is the biggest scam artist we have in the U.S. Your help to expose this travesty will hopefully educate the public in knowning a quality breeder from a puppy mill. And, I hope what will be broadcast will be the hundreds of people that lovingly open their homes to caring for and rescuing foster dogs and the people who adopt these wonderful loving creates that God has blessed us with!
Your show is viewed by millions who take what you say and promote seriously. You can help our Animal FRIENDS by hosting a segment on the misery and death inflicted by puppy mills and backyard breeders. Each year, billions of dollars and millions of hours are spent trying to undo the results of puppy millers and breeders. Please do the right thing by your family, your friends, your public and, yes, your doggy family members, by being proactive against these people. Your show, your words, can literally save thousands of animal lives. Please look into your heart and the eyes of your family dogs and cats and do the right thing.

I have had experience with rescued Pugs from Puppy Mills... one of the Pugs could not stand because he was kept in a cage for breeding his entire life (he was 7 when I met him). Please use your power to bring this to the people.

I would like to beleive that if people who buy pets from large pet chain stores knew what kind of enviroment their dog came from they would not go ahead with the purchase.

This would be such great exposure for the anti-puppymill cause. This is not a "radical animal activist" issue, but something that would and should touch the heart of nearly every viewer. Please go forward with this as a subject for your program!
Oprah, I run a small all breed rescue group that rescues all types of dogs and cats from all over the country. Many of these dogs and cats are throw aways because they are victims of over breeding and no longer needed and often come from puppy mills. They are often sick and malnourished. The females have been bred many times and are diseased from over breeding. This needs to be stopped and needs to be exposed. Please use your voice. Have a voice for those that don't.
What the puppy mills do to these dogs is not understood by the general public. At a recent auction by a puppy mill one of the autioneer stated,"It doesn't' need ears in order to breed." That little female dog had NO ears due to its abuse. (our organization rescues what we can to change their quality of life) I would love you, Oprah, to share this petition with Diane Saywer to expose this despicable business!

It is not fair to have beautiful creatures of God be euthanized because the public are not aware of puppy mills.
