Dogs are suffering and dying - right now. Millions are euthanized each year. The public needs to see the ugly reality of puppy mills. Open their eyes. As painful as it is to see the conditions in which these dogs live, it is nothing compared to the agony these poor animals suffer daily. Spay, neuter, rescue, and take away the livelihood of breeders who have lost their humanity and deserve severe punishment for their cruelty. Three rescued dogs share our home. They are among the lucky few. All dogs deserve love and respect. Help them find some.
Oprah, watched your show for years and have a great appreciation for your good heart and willingness to help those who are down and out. This is a wonderful opportunity to help those 'who can not speak for themselves', lets show the general public what a horror these puppy mills are (we have been a foster home for dogs taken from a puppy milll-case pending-and saw how sick and hurt these were!! Now they are healthy and loved.
Oprah, yes, please help us expose the puppymills and the awful backyard breeders. Contact ANY of us on this petition. We can give you all the info you need to do a show that can help the animals of the entire country.
Thank you!
I have fostered so many puppymill puppies for my local H.S......there seems to be no end to this problem....I Pray nightly to God to put His efforts forward to stop this.but I guess, He feels, we created this Monstor so we must correct it ourselves.I will continue to Pray.
who doesn't or hasn't watched the oprah show, this would perfect as you go deep into your information on subjects ans know you would cover this very well, help us stop the puppy mills please.
You've done so much for for us. I know that you love your animals. Please help to expose the horror of puppy mills. Hopefully, people will stop supporting these places. Thank you, Terri Clark.
You are a generous person, both in body and soul. Please help us expose the horrors of Puppymills. People look up to you. Be the voice for the animals.
Dear Oprah and all your great staff! I admit to being glued to the tv when your show is on. I am one of those people that seem to be able to relate to pretty much every topic you feature! Tears come rolling down my face time and time again from all the moving things you do for people. I work with a rescue group for dogs, and find that I am more and more frustrated with the lack of education many people have regarding puppy mills, and where those cute little puppies we all see at the pet stores come from. I know it would only take a few phone calls from you and your staff Oprah. You are an inspiration to me for so many things, please use all your power to inspire others about this horribly shocking subject. I personally guarantee you will shock the world by exposing the puppy mill business! With my deepest regards, Heather
I find it hard to believe Oprah has not done a show on puppymills yet. It is one of the few horrible atrocities going on every day that we actually have the power to stop. With EXPOSURE. What is PETA, the "Animal Planet" and every other animal rights organizations doing if not soliciting OPRAH??? Apathy and ignorance is what Oprah fights against, no?
You have the ability to expose these people for what they are. I just got a male from a puppy mill. He was given up because he is too old to breed anymore. When I got him he was almost dead. Please help to stop the nonsense.
Only one word can express how I feel about this. That is HATE. I don't like to use this word but it is so terrible how some animals are treated. I know so many little kids are treated bad too. This old world is just not what is should be. Please bring this to the attention to all the millions of people that don't know this exist.
Please help save all the puppies from these horrible puppy mills. I have my 3rd cocker spaniel from a puppy mill and do not want her to die young like the others.
Cindy
Puppy mill dogs live in horrid conditions. Please uncover the truth about them and show your viewers where the cute little pet store puppies come from.
We love the fact that you're a dog lover and owner, also an animal lover and we know you personally know the misfortune of neglect and abuse. There are so many causes out there, but the children and animals, the weakest and powerlessness make them the most vulnerable. Perhaps letting PETA on your show to expose the atrocities these puppy mills are guilty of could be something you could support for those who cannnot speak. Thank you and bless you for all you do and have done to make this a better world to live in.
Take this undercover and you will shock America! Please help people see what is happening in their home towns. It is unbelievable how many people do this. The precious little dogs don't have a chance! They would really be better off dead, instead they live in hell on earth, then die. Such a shame.
Im not sure what you know about puppy mills. please look into it. There are so many of them in operation in every state and people are paying alot of money for sick dogs that they end up spending hundreds if not thousands to save these animals. Rescue groups all over the US get these poor animals because owners are not equiped to handle the social problems as well as the medical problem. You could make a difference.
Ms. Winfrey, you have the unique position of being able to effect great change and spread great awareness. If people understood where pet store puppies and kittens come from, the market would dry up and the mills would be forced out of business. We've been fighting this battle for years - you can help win it muh, much sooner.
Oprah I watch you every single day. I know all the great things you do to help people, so please Oprah consider this. It does need to stop. Animals suffer too much.
Please consider exposing this. Take the cameras undercover and surprise these bad people. THEN let all the poor dogs go free and find them loving homes. That is my dream. Just a dream, but hey I do hope this happens in my life time.
With great power, comes great responsibility. This is not as 'comic' book as it sounds. The strong should help protect the weak, and animals need a Champion like Oprah!
This is not your fight, but what a wonderful difference you could make. As it is, I admire your activism, but regret to say I never watch your show, but that's not what this is about. I do respect your personal accomplishments, and the causes you have chosen to champion. You are making a difference, which is why I signed this petitiion ...
Warmest regards - Martin.
(Puppy Mills are not just about the horrid conditions of the breeding at the mills. Puppies being produced are dying at young ages because they are bred for $$$$ not health. Serious genetic defects are being found in puppy mill puppies. Dog's dying very young from diseases. Going blind at 2 yrs old. Bone diseases that render them crippled by 4. Etc)
Meanwhile, well meaning folk who who bought that cute pet shop puppy, find themselves in shock and heartbroken, when the animal dies prematurely or has to be euthanized.
After all- the puppy 'looked' healthy .
Raising dogs is one thing but never letting them out of a cage or giving them the medical care they need. The people that treat their dogs like this needs locked in a small wire cage, with no blankie.
Please, if anyone can help and make people listen, it's you. People need to be educated on Puppy Mills and the difference between good responsible breeders and puppy mills. There's a big difference between the two.
No dog or any kind of animal needs to be treated like this. My dogs are my babies and I show them how much I love them daily. I wish all dogs could be as happy as mine.
Oprah has such a gift at touching lives and educating people. Considering the popularity and love our pets receive in America, Oprah's the perfect person to bring this to the mainstream public's attenion...
This situation needs to be addressed. I am a pug owner and I hate seeing people using these loving animals as a means of profit. Would you like it if you were the animal being whored out? I don’t think so. Thanks for taking time to address this matter.
Oprah,
Because I believe in my signature quote by Margaret Meade, that a few good people can change the world, I also believe that you will join our cause and help change the world for our suffering animal friends.
It's unbelievable that here it is, almost 2005, and we still have an animal crisis. Not only are there millions of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens being put down every year, but even more heartbreaking is the abuse and neglect that has been on the rise in recent years. Oprah, I'm begging you, as a dog lover, to help us educate people about puppy mills and what goes on in breeding mills. One such story is about a miniature greyhound mom. She had litters for 10 years, cramped in a cage made of chicken wire. She was at an auction, and when nobody wanted her, she was put in a make shift garbage bin. An animal welfare person in disguise went over and looked in...to her surprise the 10-year old mamma still had courage to wag her tail at her. She offered $50 and took her home. She didn't know what grass was, and couldn't walk up the stairs because she's never been out of her cage her whole life..until now. At least mamma will get to enjoy the second part of her life..safe from being in a puppy mill ever again.
Many purebreds are in pounds and shelters everywhere. Where are the breeders who are responsible for every life they bring into this world? Neglect and cruetly occur daily at such mills, and even the high end pet stores, like in NYC, get their dogs from the same run down mills. But people don't realize this. Why breed when there are already so many healthy pets that desperately need a home. There are so many angles, from puppy mills, to homeless and abdandoned animals, to the poor laws for such cruelty and neglect. Cable TV's Animal Planet "Animal Cops" would be great to have on your show since there would be lots of video of sad and appalling stories. Oprah, before saying no, I challenge you to go to a local dog pound and look into the eyes of the many innocent four-legged victims of ignorance and irresponsible pet owners. I challenge you to watch a healthy, happy puppy be put to sleep simply because there is no home for it.
Oprah, when you talk, people listen. When you discuss things on your show, PEOPLE LISTEN. You have so much power. Please start weilding some of it and assist those that can't cry out for help.
People do need to know about Puppy Mills---and that having a dog with papers does not guarantee a dog that is healthy and of sound temperament.
I help out at a no kill shelter, and most of the time, our animals are "mutts", but we do get the occassional pedigree.
Given Oprah's ability to enlighten folks, it really wouldn't hurt to beat the spay and neuter drum, either. Too many animals for too few homes.
