Oprah, you have so much power to inform people of injustices in this world. You have done a wonderful job in bringing to light so many crimes which would otherwise go unnoticed. I know this is an issue close to your heart. Please, with the Christmas season so close upon us, show people where their pets come from and where they go once they've bee "discarded". Thank You.
Dear Oprah,
Would you please expose the hellish living conditions of
"breeding *****es" in puppy mills? Most Americans are unaware that the mom of the darling puppy they bought at a pet store is living her entire life in a small filthy cage, being bred too often starting too young, and is killed when she becomes too old or sick to turn a profit. Our "best friends" deserve so much better than this. Would you please use your tremendous influence to raise awareness of this immoral trade? Thank you.
Oprah, if you will take a bit of time to learn the true horror of puppy mills and feel sure your crusader spirit will kick in and you will be moved to do something to make these abused and neglected babies plight known to your large viewer audience. They desperately need your help. Please don't let them down.
Hey Oprah!
Do you fancy a life of pushing out babies every 9 months, from puberty to menopause. Then being euthanised at the menopause, or any time earlier if you become to ill to be productive? All the while living in one room. Never going out, and only occasionally having someone come in to clear out your excrement? Does that sound like fun? If not, then please use your immense influence to do something about it! There are thousands of innocent dogs being forced into this life, and its pure living hell.
Hi Oprah,
I live in Sweden and I have been present on a dog mailing list for several years. I often watch your shows and I think that they are great. We don't have puppy mills in Sweden but I have learned a lot about them through my American friends. I think that making an awareness show on how the dogs are treated in the mills would reach a lot of American people since a lot of people watch your show over there. We don't sell dogs or cats in pet shops either here in Sweden and this is an issue that needs to be addressed as well. I know that you are a dog lover and I have seen your shows with your dogs present. I think that it would mean a lot to a lot of American people if you addressed this urgent issue on your show.
Oprah, please help us. Puppy mills are the saddest business out there and now that People magazine is advertising that a 17 year old can make $70,000 a year, I fear that more people will go into this business. Thank you.
Oprah, Please expose the evil of puppy mills in our country. It breaks my heart about those poor dogs and I think a lot of people dont understand that when they purchase a puppy from a pet store in the mall that the parents of those puppies are poor little mill dogs that are treated so very horribly!
Oprah, Please do a segment on Puppy Mills. There are so many animal lovers in the world and so many that have no idea about the horrors of puppy mills.
Dear Oprah,
I live in Pennsylvania. We have a dirty little secret in the Lancaster area that most tourists don't know exists. Yet, a large amount of their dogs come from here. They would be horrified if they saw where they come from, and what happens to those who don't get out. Can you bring the plight of the rescuers to light?
Dear Oprah,
I know this topic isn't one that you might normally have on your show, but animals are being bred and destroyed by the litter for ungodly amounts of money. Please alert people to the needlessness of such abuse. Thank you.
Oprah,
I know you are only one voice, but you are a voice that is heard by MILLIONS! Please use your voice to help these defenseless animals, and give them a chance at a normal, loving life. We watch your show religiously and know that you are an advocate for many things, isn't animals one of them? PLEASE HELP!
Thank You and God Bless,
The Johnson's
Oprah, Please give voice to all the dogs who can not speak for themself.
Living in Scandinavia it breaks my heart that a good land like the US can allow things like Puppy Mills. Please read material about dogs, their firs 12 weeks are so important. It makes the foundation of the rest of the dogs life.
Thank you for your good shows, I watch them here in Norway.
Best regards
Susanne Sulutvedt
Please stop these evil places. We have to puppies and couldn't imagine doing anything remotely nasty to them. All living things deserve to be treated humanely.
If you were to do a show on puppy mills, you really should include the Amish. I have been to several Amish run mills (with the vet I work for) and the conditions were deplorable! Most of the animals had brucella and leptospirosis, which are both zoontic diseases. I am not sure, but I believe that they aren't under any regualtions through the government or humane organizations so they use and abuse these animals to make money. It us just wrong. Anyone can see that, animal lover or not! I hope you will help to expose puppy mills!
I know you love pets very much. Please help in any way possible for there is a puppy mill right across the street from me and it is so sad how they are done. All the puppies are sold to brokers and then sold to pet stores.you have a wonderful gift to help animals so please help and let the people know just what they are. Thankyou so much.
These dogs have no access to voice their cries for help. Such high numbers of live souls are subject to such horrific conditions. Please help expose these conditions by educating the general public and the animal lovers in your audience.
Oprah, you've not only made such a HUGE difference in the lives of so many millions of people, but you've also been a role model when it comes to pets and pet overpopulation. Please consider the plight of the poor pups that come from these Puppy Mills and the plight of the people who purchase them not knowing the congenital abnormalities and medical problems they will face in the future. Wrong is just wrong...
These innocent victims are subjected to horrific lives then dumped when they no longer can produce. People need to be made more aware of what is happening when they go to the pet stores to purchase those adorable little puppies. Most of which are ladden with genetic diseases and in which a huge majority will get sick and die within it's first 6 months of life. Rescue organizations can only do so much in freeing these poor animals and allowing them to live out their lives with human contact and love. With consumer awareness, the puppymillers will have to cease or change their practises.
I know how devoted you are to your pets. Plese further the cause of quality of life for animals by exposing the heinous conditions of puppymills. Oprah, you have a gift -- please use your gift to help these precious pups. Thank you and God bless.
This would be a tremendous educational show to all who love animals. Many people may not even know what a puppy mill is. So a show on Puppy Mills would alert the public to the horrific truth of where those cute little animals in the pet stores really come from. Some people may think by buying that poor puppy with the sad eyes to save them and give them better life is a good thing. They may not realize by doing so you are just opening up another spot for the puppy mill to continue. This will never stop if we don't educate as many people as we can on this subject. I for one never knew about Puppy Mills until 1999. I feel saddened by the fact that before then I had participated in purchasing a couple of puppies from pet stores myself. I am very grateful to all of the people who have provided the information that let me know exactly what my money had bought me. Let's all pull together and let as many people know as we can. Oprah please stretch out your hand to these poor innocent creatures by helping to spread the word. Thank you!
I recently went to a puppy mill just to see for myself what it was like. I haven't slept good since. There were so many sweet little dogs they were laying in pain. Some were so bitter they didn't even want you to look at them. There were a few that had that look in their little eyes that said please help me get out of here. I had to leave, but I will never go back and I will never forget what I saw. The man was so mean with them that owned them. I just wanted to kick him in the you know what.
Oprah, Going after breeders is like taking asprins for brain tumors. There are problems, but the problems lie with the fact most states have no licensen requirement and the USDA APHIS only has roughly 60 employees to inspect thousands of "Legal" kennels and breeders. There are untold numbers of hobby breeders, backyard breeders, illegal operations and operations that are not covered by any federal or state law. If you want to do a show you need to show what is good and what is bad, expose states failing to meet their responsibilities and the failure of the USDA to staff and fulfill the mandate as issued by Congress to inspect and licesen breeding facilities.
I think what you will find there are actually three distinctive groups, responsible legal breeders, illegal breeders, Breeders who support animal welfare and do a good job working with the local authorities, and then on the other side you will find a large group of animal welfare people who make a lot of noise and never really accomplish very much except the occasional news story of a kennel bust that in most cases needs to be closed. But, there is very little to prevent the same people from operating again in a couple of weeks even at the same location.
The term Puppy Mill is offensive to most everyone, no matter what the position or goals. There needs to be an effort to educate the public about what is good and what is bad and how to identify a good breeder from a bad one.. The same goes for Pet stores.. some good some bad
Your message for the past several years has been about quality of life. Pets are an essential part of the lives of many, many people, sometimes their only source of love and companionship. Please do something to help stop the suffering of these completely dependent creatures.
God did not put animals on our planet to be treated the way these puppy mils and backyard breeders treat these dogs.God also gave us all brains to be used as we saw fit. Some have abused that wonderful power like these people have, and the law needs to be brought in to this situation to use their power for the good of these animals. We should all try to do our very best with our given power and stop these horrible atrocities. Get rid of these people by not giving up. Please Oprah help us, help the animals, and help all these wonderful volunteers who travel far and wide to save these animals, all on their own. they are to be commended, and they deserve all the help they can get.PLEASE! PLEASE! HELP US, PLEASE. Look at the websites, you will get sick.
The public would stop this business in its tracks if they knew of it. The mothers that are constantly bred until they die without care or ever knowing love, the puppies born with defects, spina bifida, blindness, limbs missing or none, no jaws etc. etc. from constant in-breeding9it is cheaper to keep the puppies and breed them than to get new dogs with different bloodlines). They should know that when they buy a puppy from a pet shop that for each one bought- hundreds dye, the puppies are born in advance (they never know what the pet shops will want)and on average one out of a hundred are bought befor they reach the "unsellable" age of 5 months. Any puppy that is not purchased by a pet shop before the age of 5 months is killed (not euthanized-that is too costly-one shot to the head"if USDA is watching"). Then you add on the other hundred or so that are "defective" and you have just killed two hundred puppies to buy one.You could be the only way for the people to learn this ugly truth. Won't you show you care and these poor innocent creatures that can't help themselves.
The last 'legal' form of slavery in the United States. Please reveal the truth of where the 'doggy in the window' from..and what happens to the ones that don't get homes.
Mill dogs don't live in kennels...check out the horrific conditions...it is beyond human comprehension. Also, PLEASE show the discusting, vile, shaddy puppy mill auctions..the things that are done and said at these God forsaken displays of inhumane sales of terrified, malnourished, abused, broken animals. For the sake of millions of animals PLEASE don't let this be a one time topic.
We thank you for your help.
The Teton Valley but a Chicagoan for most of my life..please an expose on this horrendeous crime. If you decide to do a program on Puppy Mills, please stress that buying puppies from a pet shop, down the block or on The Mag Mile is proliferating puppy mills.
You are a dog and horse lover as I am, please do the public a great service.
Oprah, you have always been a strong advocate against the abuse of animals. As a pet lover and influential woman, please do an expose on the needless and cruel deaths of animals in the so-called "puppy mills."
These atrocities should not be allowed to continue. This is something of which I feel very passionate. I will help you if you want. :)
I've seen some local expose's on puppy mills and it's not a pretty sight. I feel so sorry for both the mothers and puppies because the conditions are so poor. Their health is in jeopardy but that doesn't stop the owners from continuing.
As a dog owner and someone working against injustice and abuse you could have an enormous impact on exposing puppy mills and the USDA licensed perpetuation of animal cruelty.
Oprah get your cameras and start showing these people for what they are. Most are filthy. Show the abused and untreated Mom dogs. Show how they burn them or let them rot when they have to go to the Rainbow Bride because they can't endure anymore. Oh this subject really gets me fired up. Can you tell? I wish I could save all of them.
Puppy Mills need to be stopped as well as back yard breeders. Back yard breeders are just as responsible for selling so called registered puppies without contracts or health guarantees.
I work for a vet, and we had a lady come in the other day with a blue merle cocker that she paid $800.00 for. Has anyone out there seen a blue merle cocker? I asked the lady if maybe something jumped the fence? She said NO way, that the puppy was AKC registered, and she has the papers to prove it.
These so called puppy mills and back yard breeders need to be stopped, and soon!!!
