The undersigned people request the removal of all parking meters currently or already being installed in the village of Port Jefferson, NewYork.. We request the parking meter program be ceased . The plan involved the Village hiring a consultant. The Village government did not seek the input from local citizens, workers or frequent visitors to the Village. This we deem was and injustice to the foremention people. We feel in the current economic enviroment that the plan will hinder economic growth in the area.
The undersigned feel that the current plan places a unfair burden on the current and seasonal workforce in the Village. A large majority of companies pay minimum wage . Thes workers consist of a fair amount of minorites and/or college students. The current plan creates an unfair econimic burden on these workers.
The Mayor's office has stated that a village parking lot for Brookhaven residence will be provided. They can not quanranty the lot wil provide ample space and may become filled. This creates another unfair siituation for non - Brookhaven employees in the area. A third option is for employees to park in a reserved lot near St Charles Hospital and then take a shutle bus to the downtown area. The lot will not be provided or manned with security. This creates safety issues for auto and humans alike during late hours.
The plan will not lower the level of traffic in the Village.. It will spill more traffic onto side roads in the area. It creates an unfair expense to employees in the area. This plan should be stopped now.

I have enjoyed visiting and enjoying Port Jefferson for 40 years. This new fee steals that great joy. I'll start with this petition, then we'll move to an all out boycott of the port and all of its businesses.

This implementation is just another fine display of the Village of Port Jefferson's desire to be the most tourist-unfriendly place on Long Island. Not to mention the additional hardship the service workers in town now must endure to go work at their lower wage jobs to bring the Almighty dollar to the theives, liars, and general usless carbon-based critters that run this town. I'm just curious to see how well these
