because all dogs need to have the freedom to run around and as ong as they aren't a danger to anyone I see no reason NOT to allow them to do this. Dogs provide us with SO MUCH can't we at least give something back to them?
because off-leash hours have enriched my life and the life of my dog. We've both found community, and return home each morning pleasantly exhausted, feeling connected to the world around us.
We're proud that our little park in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, has always belonged to, and enjoyed by Everyone: Kids, adults, dogs, birds, insects, once a rabbit, and occasionally, a misunderstood cat. In the evenings, after 9PM, when most of Brooklyn is at home finishing dinner, our dogs, our best friends, help keep the park safe and friendly. In the morning, before 9AM, when many folks have ventured out to work, we're out there with our pals, running, getting exercise, taking advantage of our perfect park. We care as much for our animals as we do our family, and we would never do anything to allow our dogs- our family members, to harm our fellow neighbors. For every rare incident in our park, (and they are happily few and far between,) there is a woman who feels safer to walk through our park at night. There is a child who learns the importance of discipline and love. There is a community of insects, animals, and the occasional misunderstood cat, who relish and enjoy a safe community, and a safe park, together.
and suggest anyone who doesn't go to the parks in the morning and evening and see how well the off leash for dogs works now, and how this will only improve it.
well socialized dogs are happier and healthier and much less likely to be aggressive. I take my dog to the park every day and we both look forward to the experience
Let us not go backwards but continuing going forward. The off leash time is very important for the health benefits of both dogs and people. A few selfish citizens should not ruin it for tens of thousands of others.
The parks are for the use and enjoyment of the public. One look at Prospect Park's Long Meadow at 8:30am on a Sunday confirms that a large number of the public enjoy this existing benefit.
Since rescuing my dog 3 years ago I have been in the Park everyday. I have never seen any aggression towards a child or adult. Don't let these few people ruin it for the many... dogs an people.
The 20-year off-leash hours policy is a proven and successful public health policy; , and Dog owners in NYC Parks have contributed to keeping the parks safer, since they are present and vigilant in the late evening and early morning hours.
Off-leash hours keep both myself and my dog healthy. I spend more time in the park as a dog-owner because of the off-leash privileges than I ever did before owning my dog. The hours have allowed me to enjoy the park and the company of my neighbors.
It is only out of fear and ignorance that someone would look to eliminate off leash hours. A dog that isn't exercised enough is much more likely to be a problem than an off leash dog. Thank you!
because dogs make many parts of our parks safer by bringing people there at all hours of the day, especially early morning and late nights when the dogs are playing off-leash.
responsible dog owners with safe and fun dogs should not be penalized for those people and animals that are irresponsible. dogs and people need to run around and play.. not in a small dirty cage-- thank you
