I support this petition because my dog has brought meaning to my life. I would give my life for her. Our animals are our family and they deserve to be treated like so. Let them run and play!
because our four legged friends need a place to be off leash. They are not doing any harm. The dog owners and their dogs serve as a patrol that prevent crime.
As a tax-paying New Yorker I deserve to have my recreational needs met. I do not want to continue to pay for other's recreational facilities and have my recreational needs ignored.
off-leash hours have allowed us to socialize our recent rescue dog. She was terrified after coming out of the city pound. Being around other playing dogs and their owners has allowed this pup to not be a fear aggressive threat. A well socialized dog off-leash is much safer than an unsocialized dog on leash.
Dogs are living, breathing, feeling, caring creatures and bring great joy to others. They deserve to be treated more fairly. We are only asking to afford them freedom when the park is not busy. Dog owners are more conscientious about picking up after their dogs than many humans are about picking up their own garbage. Let's not let NY become the only non-friendly dog city in the world. It just wouldn't be democratic.
Off leash hours in NYC parks are important. Letting a dog run for even 20 minutes a day seems to reduce the dog's stress level thereby decreasing the likelihood of an incident. If there is anything that should be done is enforcement of licensing.
my dog will go crazy if he doesn't get to play fetch in Central Park at least once a day. If this ban passes it will be awful for dogs and their owners.
because the idea of abolishing off-leash rights is absolutely ridiculous. What's next, let's eliminate the squirrel population in the city's parks because they might bite people? Dogs, like people, need open space. They were not meant to be cooped up. I say thanks to the genius who thought up this idiotic idea.
People from all walks of life and backgrounds in this city are owners of man's best friend, including people in powerful political positions. ALL dog owners should have a place for their dogs to run freely and exercise...and be dogs, not just the power brokers and wealthy. Equality for all includes dog owners and their dogs. It takes a "dog" to want to restrict the ability of our real dogs to be just that...dogs.
because we live in a city with limited space for dogs to stretch and run and their doing so in the few parks where they are able to does not inhibit the ability of people to enjoy the parks as well.
I support this petition because Harry (the dog) said he would organize a doggy revolution if I did not ... well he said woof wooof ... but it translated to doggy revolution.
I have a dog (Boxer) Mr. Tibbs who is loved by everyone when we go to Fort Greene Park on Saturdays. I have not encounter any dog at our park who doesn't listen to all dog owners. Dogs need time to bond with there fellow doggie friends.
why take this privilege away from them when dog owners have bending enough, also, the parks in the winter are empty, its there to be used, let them use it
I support this petition because this seems like a reasonable compromise, if the dog park is constructed in a size and manner that truly allows for the dogs to exercise by running and playing.
We all are vital parts of this city and out dogs are vital parts of our lives. Do not punish us for the city"s failure to provide adequate "green space" for all.
exercise is a vital component of a sound dog. without a place to properly and freely exercise our pets, you will see an increase in "incidents" involving dangerous dogs and aggression.
Off-leash hours allow our community to come together and dogs and their owners to enjoy a shared, public space. The real nuisance is people who litter or misuse the park space; dog owners participating in off-leash hours are generally a conscientious group and community who are part of the solution--not the problem-- to providing safer, cleaner parks. Those who dislike off-leash dogs may enjoy the park during its regular on-leash hours.
We live in a crowded city, the only place we can bring our dogs to that is safe and in a friendly roomy envoronment is central park. dog owners need to be responsible dont make our dogs the victims here
to give our beloved companions the chance to be free and interact with other dogs, the joy they share in such a small time frame should not be deprive. Please do not take this joy away from them.
We live in a crowed city with not much open green space - public or private. Unlike the vast majority of those living outside NYC, most of us don't have back or front yards to allow our dogs the freeedom they deserve as living beings. Public parks with off-lease hours and public dog runs (with well known usage laws) are our only alternatives. Don't punish the dogs. Most owners are responsible. If anything, strengthen the penalties for owners who disobey the usage laws. But don't hurt the dogs.
Having had a dog in the city for four years, I attest personally to the responsible ownership of the vast majority of dog owners who control and clean up after their dogs more carefully than most parents manage their children in public.
this seems like a reasonable compromise, if the dog park is constructed in a size and manner that truly allows for the dogs to exercise by running and playing. It is unfortunate that the lack of responsibility on the part of some dog owners, and the over-reaction of some non-dog owners have led to this. Dogs are a healthy part of many people's lives. Removing off-leash privileges without giving back a dog park for them to exercise would result in angry owners and unfit dogs that will not be well-behaved.
dog owners constitute a significant cohort in the city population. there have been remakably few incidents as a result of off the leash dogs in any park. dog owners have rights as do any citizens. it is not unreasonable to ask that our generally non-disruptive animals be allowed off the leash durinng off hours at the park. it is not terribly difficult to avoid the limited areas where dogs congregate during these hours.
Most dog owners in the city are responsible pet owners. Most of us pick up after our dogs. Our dogs need to be allowed off-leash because they need daily workout so that they don't become aggressive. It's unfair that the mistakes of a few less responsible people ruin it for all the dogs and dog people in the city.
because any and all dogs in this concrete jungle we call New York City should have a place where they can run freely - as they were naturally born to do.
