If the Juniper association doesn't want no leash time in their park, that is their perogative. They need not legislate the wishes of their neighborhood to my neighborhood or any other in which they do not live.
My dog, Leo, whom I am channeling, says that without a place and time to hang out with his friends, most of his buddies would either get fat and sleepy, or become canine juvenile delinquents and drink and bite. Give us a break.
I support this petition because dogs that are exercised are happier dogs. They are better socialized. Dog owners that are out in the parks during courtesy hours make the parks safer for all citizens.
What is the point of a park if all citizens cannot enjoy it. Dogs have certainly proved themselves valid citizens in this city from the everyday seeing eye dogs who for years have guided the blind into having more complete lives here in New York to the hero search and rescue dogs of 9/11. Then, of course, there are the "Average Joe" dogs who just enjoy a good morning romp with their owners. We all need a little "off leash" time before starting the work day.
Responsible dog owners should be allowed to enjoy the park off leash. Skaters, riders and children loose in the park pose a threat as well but no restrictions are placed on them.
Do not let an isolated case ruin the lives of responsible dog owners.
I support this petition because it's great for dogs as well as the park. Dog ownners have 'opened' the parks again to the law abiding public. By being there with our dogs we contribute to it's beauty maintainence and safety.
Dogs need sufficient exercise in order to be well behaved on-leash and in the home. Letting them run in the open meadows of our larger city parks is an ideal way for them to get the exercise they need and deserve.
