because it's time we gave back to "man's best friend". Off leash time is the very least we do for our canines in general. Canines have helped us in the medical field, during war time, saving many lives, as well as in nursing homes where dogs always have time to visit. Pet a dog and lower your blood pressure!
I can't imagine living in new york without this off-leash time. It is incredible -- not just for the dogs, but for the people as well. It honestly makes living in New York City a wonderful experience. I invite the judge to come to Central Park and meet this incredible community.
My dog and I love Prospect Park. Having a park with off leash hours was a real attraction to my wife and I when we were looking for a place to purchase our first apartment.
I support this petition because the park is active and alive in the morning during off leash hours. When I walk to work through the park I feel safe becuase there are a lot of people and a lot of activity. If you take dog owners out of the park, (and most will leave to find a fenced in version) I worry that the park will become unsafe due to lack of activity.
Dogs' health is vital to their good behavior and most dogs need to run to be able to maintain their health. Most people cannot run along side their dogs so they play ball with them to give them excersize. It is crazy and vindictive to change a 20 year old rule for no apparent reason. Dogs will go in the park or in the street wheather they're off leash or not.
I support this petition. If my dog were not allowed his off leash time he would be a far less social animal. His face just lights up when he sees his "friends" in the park. Merely walkin him makes him behave as if he is being punished. I support this petition!
I support this petition. These parks belong to ALL of us. Shared parks, shared responsibility. Besides, parks with dogs are cleaner than parks with people. Take a look around on a Sunday in Prospect.
In my experience, most dog owners in favor of off-leash hours are responsible and courteous, to other dog owners as well as to other members of the public who may be nervous around dogs. We are typically very involved in training our dogs to respond to voice commands--it would be dangerous to our dogs themselves if our dogs would not come to us on command. We typically put our dogs on leash when encountering unfamiliar dogs, or to prevent our dogs from bothering people without dogs. Off-leash hours have been successful precisely because the majority of us making use of them (for the mental and physical health of our dogs) have respected our communities.
because a city that is truly evolved is one that recognizes the right of dogs and owners to exercise without being tied to a leash while having large, natural spaces in which to happily run.
I am a dog owner and I vote. Please promote health and safety for New York pets by retaining off-leash policies and establishment of dog runs and parks in New York.
