Please sign this petition to tell Paul Wesselhoft that he is wrong for banning this wonderful breed. These dogs are wonderful members of our families not the devil in canine cloths. look at what he wan to do!

"Now the incident has moved a state lawmaker to author legislation that will effectually ban the pit bull breed in Oklahoma.

Rep. Paul Wesselhoft, R-Moore, said that in the next legislative session he will introduce a bill – modeled after a municipal ordinance in Denver that has withstood two separate legal challenges – to get rid of the pit bull.

In researching the topic, Wesselhoft says he has reviewed over a thousand articles and legal cases related to pit bull attacks, which often end in death or mutilation of the victims.

“Many people who own pit bulls say that it’s other owners who train their pit bulls to be vicious – that there aren’t bad pit bulls, just bad pit bull owners,” Wesselhoft said. “But the fact is that these dogs are bred to fight until their prey is killed.”

Long before he became a legislator, Wesselhoft says he noticed news stories from around the country detailing how pit bull terriers had attacked and mauled people of all ages, including young children.

But when a pit bull attacked three-year-old Cody Yelton of Moore, who was supposedly trying to pet the animal, Wesselhoft believed the time had come to take action.

“Each time I read about one of these attacks or see the story on TV, I tell my wife Judy, ‘That dog ought to be outlawed,’” Wesselhoft said. “Now that it’s happened to one of my constituents, I’ve got to do this.

I have 2 one is 14 and the other almost 2. I rescued the older one when he was 5 years old from an abusive home and neither of them have ever shown agression to anyone. They love my grandchildren and sllep with them. My son has been bit by a dalmation (this one put him in the hospital), a lab, a couple Chihuahuas and a mutt. What about these breeds? It is not the breed its the owners.

However, a pit bull is bred to put 100% into everything it does, and stupid people train them to fight, so they give it 100% when they fight, just like any other activity. Don't think about only the bad people, think about the people who love this breed of dog and do nothing but play with it and care for it, because it is JUST LIKE ANY OTHER DOG!!! That is what a dog makes a dog. Its not their fault. They do what their owners tell them, end of story.Somebody who can make a pitbull a killing machine also could make a sloth a killing machine!

It took 30 minutes to get the pitt to just let go. My dog underwent mager surgery and ended up with 200 stitches and a broken jaw. He will never breath normallly and where i lived there was no animal control,no one would help me. The police said they can;t do anything unless it envolves a person getting hurt. So i guess I will just have to wait untill my two year old is playing outside and those dogs get out or he walks to close to the fence and him get bit or mauled or even killed those dogs are capable of anything they put their minds to and they should be stopped because i'm not going to keep waiting for someone to get hurt before something is done or i take some part in the action of banning these viciouse dogs. Honestly I've never meet a friendly one!!!!

They are not a visious monster the media, PETA, and the humane society wants you to believe so badly for publicity. am 23 yrs old, and have grown up with many examples of the breed, none of them like you see and hear about on the news. The media is infamous for scapegoating this breed as the agressor. if they are not, they either lie, or leave. thank you so much for your time.

I think having tougher laws on the owners of such dogs would take care of most of the problems. The owners of Pitbulls need to think of everyone in the neighborhoods safety first. And the safety of the children that play in the neighborhood.If this law passes I do think I may feel a little safer. Until then I live in fear of Pitbulls.
