I DONT support this petition. No good saying "it is the owners" say that to a lot of the owners who have had pit bulls that have attacked and they are as suprised as anyone else. The dogs have not been abused or taught to fight - it is their natural instinct - more research should be done to find what sparks this agression in the dogs.
I support this petition.I LOVED MY PIT BULL, PLAN TO GET ANOTHER & THINK THIS PETITION IS A GOOD IDEA IN THE FIGHT TO STOP AN IGNORANT MANS PROPOSED BAN ON THIS LOVING,PROTECTIVE,LOYAL BREED OF DOG. BAN THE SENETORS IDIOTIC PLEA FOR FOR THIS BAN & THE ADDITIONAL BAD PROPOGANDA IT WILL CREATE FOR OUR BREED!!!!!
I support this petition.my family & i have had pit bulls for yrs and NEVER had a problem w/ them being vicious..!! outlaw the senator &save the dogs..!!
I support this petition. When there's child abuse, the adult is jailed or at least watched. Never is the child held responsible for the abuse. There is absolutely no difference here. Has the Senator ever spanked his child? If so then he should be euthanized.
I support this petition. My Pit amazing loved by many that payed their respects @ his final rest. God-Sent a friend & guardian angel for me. All that incl. playmate for any child. A Blood donor saved parvo pups. A school visitor with the local Veternarian.
I support this petition.I myself have a pit bull and he is the most loving playfull pet that I've ever had, the breed is not agrresive, it is the owners that make them like that, dogs are like children they learn by example. pit bulls are so adorable, they shopuld not be punish for what the breeders make them do, the breaders should be punish for treating innocent dogs like that.
I support this petition. Pitt bulls are one of the most loving, smart and loyal breeds with normal people not mean & rotten people that make these dogs mean by torture & abuse by locking them up and not socializing them or not feeding them. GO AFTER THE VICIOUS PEOPLE Not the Pit bulls!!!!!
I support this petition. In the UK, any kind of bull terrier is noe being looked upon with some sort of waryness.Yes, some people do use these dogs as fighting dogs but not bacause they are overly agressive....just because they have a locking jaw and are very muscular. If a poodle could lock it's jaw and was as compact, then it too would probably be used as a fighting dog. Pitbulls are not vicious dogs, it is the people that own them, beating them abusing them that makes them seem agressive. If someone had just beaten you to an inch of your life with a bat an not fed you for weeks wouldn't you want to strike out!!
I support this petition. Being a breed racist has become fashionable. To declare one breed of dog to be inherently dangerous is just as stupid as declaring one race of people and criminal. Unfortunately, people who would be horrified to be considered racist can't see the irony in declaring a breed bad.
I have a 2 year old pit bull who is the sweetest dog. One bad expereince with one dog shouldnt result in the punishment for all dogs, especially well behaved and kind dogs like mine! I love pit bulls, its people who teach dogs to be aggressive that end up with aggressive dogs!
I support this petition. Outlawing this particluar breed of dog will not slove the problem. It will only make it harder to stop the fighting rings. And in the process loss a very special dog breed. I am the owner of two pitt bulls and over the years have done a lot of research to understand these beautiful dogs. I try to educate people about the breed, but every day encounter people like Rep. Wesselhoft. He is showing his ignorance.
I ABSOLUTELY support this petition. I have 2 beautiful pitbulls that wouldn't harm a fly. They live with 6 cats, a rat, and kids. They are my constant companion and I would hurt anyone that would try to take them away from me based on bad stereotypes.
I support this petition.I am the owner of a almost 6 year old pit bull who is my closest friend and constant companion.I repay him every day by never putting him in any situation that may cause confrontations with other dogs or strange people. Owning a pit bull is a huge responsibility that I take very seriously. The thought of someone wanting to shoot him just because he is a pit bull makes me very upset, but a reality I face daily. Please help educate these idiots who blame innocent dogs for their own irresponsible behavior.
I am a victim of a "stray" pit bull attack. I now own a pit bull and can tell you that you need to look into the "bad treatment of dogs"instead of their breeds. It is happening to ALL breeds "underground fighting" and needs TO BE STOPPED! SO if you want to do something, stop the violence of any animal...It's the human, not the animal...just like how we raise a child.
I support this petition.I have 2 female Pit Bulls for over 4 years now and they are the best dogs I've ever owned. Not once have I ever felt threatend by them nor have they ever shown any aggression towards myself, family, or friends that visit.Actually, they will lick you to death. I am sick and tired of all the bad publicity that this breed receives all the time.Just like anything else, it is how they are Raised. Just like humans, you raise them like an animal, they'll be animals. As for the pits, you show them love and affection and they'll be your best friend.Stop the bad Publicity and support this petition. What gives one man the right to tell you what you can own or not. This is "America" Mr. Wesselhoft, not Russia.Apparrently you are not a dog lover and have no "real Knowledge"of the Pit Bull Breed. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Don't be one sided.I think there are many worse problems in this country you should be worried about. Leave the dogs alone!American Pit Bull Terrier. Dosen't the word "American" say enough? Well we Americans have had enough, get a real job Mr.Wesselhoft!
I support this petition. My pitbulls are the loves of my life. They are like my children. Sadly, one of them has kidney failure due to being darted by an ignorant police officer when she was a stray. I have since adopted her, and cook all of her meals to better her odds of surviving a few more years. I was told she would live only a month...and that was nearly two years ago. She has been the sweetest, most loyal animal I have EVER rescued. My second pitbull was also a rescue, and is afraid of his own shadow. He loves all people and animals. It's sad what people do to these beautiful animals out of fear and ignorance. I'm so glad that I was able to save two...I only wish I could do more and educate the people with hate in their hearts who want to see these beautiful creatures disappear. I dare someone to try to tell me I can't have my babies!
I support this petition.
Not only are my two pitbulls the loves of my life, but one of them also saved my fiance's life...literally. She was attacked by a dog - a black lab at that - who had an irresponsible owner. If it weren't for her having my dog with her, I don't know what would have happened, as that dog went straight for her neck. Owners, NOT the breeds, are the problem. Did you know that cockerspaniels have attacked more people this year than many of the other breeds combined? They just aren't publicized because when they attack it isn't such a drastic wound. Noone fears cockerspaniels. My apartment complex has over 20 pitbulls in it (it is one of the few in my city that allows them, due to the common misconceptions of the breed). There have NEVER been any attacks by them on people or animals in the 4 years that I have been here. The only attacks that have occured were by that lab, a rottweiler, and a poodle. Proof once again that responsible pitbull owners raise wonderful dogs, and that bad owners can turn even a "baby" breed bad. Punish the dead, not the breed!
I support this petition. I have two pits of my own, and they are the gentlest creatures on earth. In fact, they sleep each night with their best friend - my cat. They cuddle all of the time with me, love children, and other animals. They are a wonderful and intellegent breed that recieved a bad rap because of a lot of ignorant people who feel that fighting them is okay. These people should be outlawed, not the dogs.
I support this petition.
I have a black lab/pit bull mix that hides from people she doesn't know. They are great, loving animals who don't deserve a bad name!
I support this petition. I have a three year old "bully" who is known for sitting on laps and trying to make friends with everything...including people, dogs, cats, birds, and even my exercise bike! Its sad that so many people are ignorant to the joys of knowing these dogs. We must stop these laws!
I support this petition.I own a 2yr old Amstaff & he is the most loving and loyal companion.he made me fall in love with not only amstaffs & pits but with "bully breeds"i hate the fact that they classify these breeds as "bully breeds" when they aren't.even helen keller had a pitbull!!the only reason why pits and amstaffs have a bad reputation is due to the MEDIA!!!you don't see on the news or anywhere else other breeds fighting or biting but they do.what about chows or even dalmations?they are far more agressive and have a higher percentage to bite than pits.any breed is capable of being agressive & can bite but that is where the owner comes into play.people say that dogs are not like children but they are...how they turn out when they grow up is due to the enviroment and upbringing of when it is a puppy.i will admit that you take extra precaution with these breeds and most people don't understand that that is why most of these agressive pits bite because they weren't properly socialized with other humans and animals as a puppy. why don't you,Paul, crack down more on fighting rings & underground & ignorant breeders than just bannning the breed.banning the breed will just cause more problems because like society nowadays, people will get them no matter what.stop taking the easy way out by banning this breed all together and start working towards making this breed a more positive situation instead of negative.it is the owners not the dogs!
I support this petition.
I Have a pitbull mix and he is the most calm natured dog around. If the dogs are trained right they are awesome, most of the time its due to people who infect these beautiful animals with anger and hate. We as the public should be ashamed of ourselves.
I support this petition. I have two pit bulls and they are like my kids. Like any breed they need to be cared for and loved, and any breed treated right is a great dog. Bad owners are the problem.
I completely support this petition.
I own a loving, friendly, playful pit bull. My dog is good with kids, people (even strangers) and loves to play all day with other dogs. Only mistreatment could be the undelying cause of these dogs having a vicious nature. The public should be educated accordingly. Pit bulls are very common in the dog shelters in my area, which is an indication that many people acquire them for the wrong reasons in the first place and then are not commited to keeping them. It is the 'back yard' breeders that should be outlawed and not the breed.
I support this petition. It outrages me that people continue to be so ignorant to think a whole breed of dogs are vicious. My Pit is the friendliest dog I've ever had. He kisses everyone he meets. You can't stop people from keeping and loving their Pits. Try getting rid of all the bad owners and breeders that cause cruelty to sweet, innocent animals.
I support this petition.
I used to have a Pit Bull until she was hit by a truck. My daughter took her to obedience training & we socialized her as much as possible with walks around town. She was a great dog, good with small children & other dogs & cats. I always heard the bad stories. She changed my mind about the breed.
I support this petition. Every dog of every breed has the ability to bite. If you properly train your animals this will not be a problem. My pit mix graduated top of her class in puppy kindergarden, and is now working on her canine good citizen award. Punish the individual act!
I support this petition. I currently own 2 female Pitbulls who are two of the most gentle and loyal dogs that I have ever been around. Of course I have done my part as a responsible owner and socialized and loved them as all dog owners should. It is a shame to stereotype one breed of dog. Why don't you focus more on stopping the underground breeding and fighting rings instead of trying to ban these wonderful dogs from responsible dog owners.
I support this petition. I was one of those people that said I would never own one of those dogs. Never say never. I have a 3 year old Male Pit Bull. He is our baby. He loves everyone and everything including cats!!He has become our Cub Scout Mascot. The kids love him and he loves them. It's not the breed, it's the people. Wake up Paul Wesselhoft and do your research. I did!
I support this petition. It's all on how you raise them, that goes for every breed. I have a pit bull and she has not shown one sign of aggression. She is loyaled and loving. She love adults, kids and other animals. She is an angel. I couldn't ask for a better dog.
I support this petition.I have a wonderful female pit and in 3 year she has never hurt a fly I believe she thinks she is human. She sleeps in my bed along with my big golden retriever and they get slong wonderfully.Killing off this breed is just ludicrous, punishing the humans is a better idea.
I support this petition. Breed specific legislation was recently found to be unconstitutional by the State of Ohio's Court of Appeals. All breed specific legislation should be challenged as unconstitutional.
I support this petition. The problem is NOT the dog, it's the OWNER!Eliminating a specific breed is NOT the answer. What happens when pit bulls are banned and another breed becomes the target of elimination? Are we going to just keep banning breed after breed after breed?!Pit bulls are exceptional dogs and should only be owned by exceptional people. Let's implement laws and guidelines to PROTECT the animal. A thorough adoption process should be put into place so that only the responsible individual could own or adopt one of these wonderful creatures. I own two, both females. They are intelligent, loving, loyal companions and they make this world a better place. Ban the "Bad" owners, not the dog!!!!
I have worked in a couple of animal shelters and I have found that pit bulls are the most loving of breeds. Undoubtedly they are high energy dogs, but they are very loving all the same. Gil
I support this petition. It is so unfortunate that Mr. Wesselhoft along with most people in the US are so uneducated with this breed. I have an Am staff and you would not believe how many people are affraid of him. My dog is the most good-tempered dog. Children even pull on his tail and ears and he couldn't care less. It is all in the person that raises the dog. I think we should be reprimanding the owners not the dogs.
I support this petition. I own pit bulls, my boyfirend owns pit bulls, and my parents own pit bulls. I grew up around Labrador Retreivers in the past and the Labs don't even compare to the love and affection a pit bull has to offer. Once my parents owned a pit bull, they'll never own another breed again. They really are truly the best dogs in the world.
When I was 2 1/2 years old, I was giving a Dashound a treat, and instead of taking the treat, the Dashound took a chunk out of the side of my face. I received 135 stitches, and needed a plastic surgeon to stitch me up so I wouldn't have any scarring. Not once have I ever been bitten, growled at, or felt threatened by a pit bull.
It doesn't matter what the breed of the dog is, it matters who the owner of that dog is. Bad owners = bad dogs. Bad parents = problematic children. You can't single out pit bulls because of their breed. That would be like singling out people because of their race. There's good and bad in all.
i am a pitbull owner of 9 yrs & my dog runs, swims, blades, just as if she was a lab! pitbulls are the prejudiced minorities of the dog world based on media hype. that's why i really love cesar millan b/c he truly understands dogs and advocates for these dogs!
until we propose to ban all breeds of dogs who have ever been known to bite, maul, or kill people, this ban of pit bulls is unconstitutional and racist. why doesn't wesselhoft do some research about the number of lives a pit bull has saved?
I support this petition.I found a femail pit wandering in our neighborhood. She is the sweetest dog! Next to labs, pits are supposed to be the best family dog. How come there is not a lot of press about the "good" pits: like the one who saved a man from drowning in the floods of Katrina?! The people who torture them should be outlawed! They should be found and imprisoned...just like drug dealers. For once, how 'bout punishing the correct party?! The dogs are victims. If I was tortured, I might attack someone too! Obviously the dogs who have been ruined, must be put down. But do NOT punish to breed as a whole! Punish the abusive breeders!!
I support this petition. I have a Pit Bull that we have had for 6 years. She is very sweet and loving. She likes to sit in you lap and kiss your face. I would like to try and see someone take her from me. I think we should ban law makers like Paul Wesselhoft.
I support this petition. Its the owners not the dogs and also the media, you dont hear about it when "fluffy" the poodle bites somebody but if a pitbull its the breed. For people that are supposed to be so smart and know so much some of these elected officals dont have a clue. Keep in mind the citizens voted for these people and when it comes time to vote again you can get ride of them easier than they can get rid of the dogs, dont vote for them again, they had their chance and arent doing what you the citizen what, remember they work for us!!!
There were more chihuaha attacks in the last year than there were APBT's. Most cases are not even a APBT, they are mutts that are breed for the wrong reason. If a Person beats his child and the child rebels, whos fault is that? Its the Parents. Same scenario, are you gonna propose a law against Parents abusing there kids to outlaw them also? If not, then why are you being so ignorant about 1 specific breed of animal? I own an APBT, she is the sweetest thing, I've got 5 nieces and nephews and a 5 year old daughter, she has never growled at anyone, not even strangers. I'm more worried about someone stealing her than I am of her attacking someone.
Why don't you actually do real research instead of being RACIST against an animal that does what it is trained to do. If you train someone to fight, and they kill someone, are you gonna ban them?
I support this petition. I have 2 pit bull terriers that I have had since they were 6 weeks old. Halo is 9 and Cora is 5. They are around children all of the time and love them. Halo whines when she sees kids playing outside and she is not there with them. They love people. There has not been 1 instance in the years that I have had either of these dogs that I have feared for anyone, including strangers, safety. I have turned many friends' perspectives, including my very reluctant parents, that pit bulls are the most fun loving, even tempered, and non-aggressive dog you could own.
I support this petition. I currently have a 6 year old chocolate pit and he is the love of the house. My 6 year old chocolate female lab is the alpha girl in this house and even the 3 cats walk all o ver this pit-boy. I adopted him from a shelter that does put animals to sleep if they cannot locate homes in a short amount of time. Our pitbull was actually on the local tv news for adoption, advertised as a lab-mix....not, this dog is all pitbull but I could not leave him at the shelter once I seen him. There were other pits in kennels around him, tagged as unadoptable. It broke my heart so much when we went back to pick him up, I could not even go back in the kennel area to see the others again as I cried knowing their fate if the owners did not come to pick them up. Let me tell everybody who is a pet owner or considering a pet....YOU CAN BEAT A POODLE OR A BEAGLE, THE SAME TEMPERMENT WILL COME OUT IF AN ANIMAL IS MISTREATED! Funny, as I have aged, originally the bad dogs were then the german shepherds, then dobermans, then rottweilers, now you have a new breed to blame for someone elses problem. WAKE UP...do you still think the other breeds mentioned above are still bad dogs too? If I ever have the room, I will return to another shelter to remove as many as I can possible handle and give them the loving family they deserve. Too bad we can't just petition bad lawmakers and officials and do away with them too. Turn you constructive critism to other problems like crime and poverty!!!
I support this petition. I have a 1/2 yr old who is the kindest animal I have ever had, everyone who has met him has fallen in love with him including our cat and the children in our area.
