I do not believe there are bad dogs but, for sure there may be bad owners or bad breeders. We should start to promote the good breeding and trying to eliminate the bad faults or bad behavior in the breed. We all should stand to try to save this beautiful animals as they are not devils at all! And we should start educate people about it.
PLEASE DO NOT BAN THESE WONDERFUL DOGS. I HAVE BEEEN SHOWING FOR 10 YEARS AND THEY ARE A VERY STABLE TEMPERED DOG. IT IS THE WRONG OWNERS BACKING BAD DOGS.
Do we forget that the pitbull was an American Icon and appeared on Life Magazine's cover several times. The dogs was imbraced by the nation and on the most popular TV show Little Rascals. Actually go to a show and see how the true pit bulls behave. Don't go by the way these idiots in the street make their dogs behave. Pass legislation that will punish these people and not a particular breed of dog.
Mr Wesselhoft hold the owners responsible for the behavior of there dogs not the dogs. A ban would not help the breed or the area it would just punish the responsible people and there families who have commited there lives to training and companionship. Stop the non sense
The last thing we need is more legislation. Will this create jobs or lower taxes? Did you get elected on the promise of banning everything you see to be unsafe? Whats next, my car?
This isnt humans go out and do crimes every day such as murder we give them the death penalty we then dont hunt down there hole family and then give them all the same punishment do we??????????????
Once again, another politician with a armload of misinformation and using it to try to pass yet another idiotic bill.
WAKE UP!!!! Breed bans don't work! Now, if you could come up with a way to ban moronic dog owners, than maybe you might have something.
I think this is rong to pick out one breed from another there is agresive dogs in all breeds I have never been around a mean pit bull I have been bitten by hunting dogs and small dogs but I never blamed the dog NO MATTER WHAT BREED!!! I am a small breeder and I always tell people that think there bad that I will give them a puppy and let them rais it the way thay wont that fits there life stile and in a year or so let me now what you think of the breed then and no one ever whants to give the dog back they are in love with breed from there on so dont punish them all. punish the deed not the breed. I got bit by a coley once I never tried to get the hole breed a bad rep. my pit bulls love my kids and any one willing to give them some love I have three in the house I will protect my dogs to the end if some one comes and tries to take them away they are all part of the family and like one of my kids and my kids are from infont to 3 years old and they all put up with the abuse a kid can do to them from pulling hair and ears to trieng to ride them like a horse and they will gently move away if they dont like it so stop trieng to bane them all for a handfull of bad dogs and bad owners. own one before you want to ban them all thanks
dont punish the breed for stupid people that rais thim for the rong thing I have several and all good with kids and stangers. punish the deed not the breed
“But the fact is that these dogs are bred to fight until their prey is killed.”- Wesselhoft....
First off, APBTs were not bred to fight. They were bred for their gameness.Gameness is the willingness of a dog to continue fighting, hunting, pulling a cart, or defending its owner through great stress, intense pain, and even death. It has nothing to do with bravery or fighting ability, but it has everything to do with heart. Also, years ago when dog-fighting was legal, APBTs did not always fight to the death. When there was a clear winner, the fight ended. the dog that lost was also considered a winner as long as he did not give up. And another point this guy does not seem to know is that way back when, most of the fighting dogs were also family dogs. they would come home from a fight and go right to playing with children. back then, these RESPONSIBLE owners did not raise their APBTs to be human aggressive. Irresponsible owners usually become the ones who are fascinated by the allure of owning the toughest dog. These owners do not know or understand anything about this loving breed. i am a proud owner of a APBT. i will always have an APBT in my house. this breed has a wonderful personality, they are extremely loyal to their family. This is because they love the attention and affection of being near its family. Many breeds respond better when they spend time with their owners. This is especially true for the APBT. ANY dog that is chained to a post or tree and is ignored can become aggressive. its not just APBTs.Cincinnati Law published an article stating that after a five-year review, NO ONE BREED IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN ANY OTHER. it all depends on how you raise any dog, not just APBTs. this law is unresonable. the responsible owners and their wonderful dogs should not be punished for all the irresponsible owners. do something about the real problem. make some new laws and actaully enforce the ones that are already there. and one last thought to think about, the majorit
The American Pit Bull breed is the best. Take time out to get to know the breed. The problem is bad owner with no control of their dogs. One question guns or dog, Mr. Wesselhoft who kills the most? luv
a bull dog man.
This law is so stupid! You need to be going after the bad breeders & Pit fighters! While your at it, you need to focus on Puppymills & back yard breeders. They are already working on ways to beat the system on the PAWS law if it's acepted. Leave the good Pits alone!
Dogs are products of their environments and breeding and both those elements are usually created by humans! Dogs aren't mean, owner are, same principle as guns don't kill people, people do!
I think Rep.Wesselhoft should go after The owners and not the breed. Dog owners need to be responsible for their dog's actions. Pits are just like any other breed. They are a product of their environment. Any breed can be mean. Pits just seem to always be targeted and when a pit does something wrong it makes the evening news. If a Yorkie bites someone it's acceptable to say it was just frightened. Now if bad peaople were breeding Yorkies to fight there would be people out there wanting to ban them, too. Pit Bulls want to be nurtured and loved and sleep on your bed with you like any other breed. But when they are chained to a tree and urged to fight to get attention they're going to fight to please their person.
Just as with proposed bans on guns, when pit bulls are banned, only the criminals and dog fighters will still own them. This is a ridiculous proposal. Lawmakers should be making the penalties for dogfighting alot stiffer and then enforce it instead of wasting time trying to outlaw the breed. It is not the breed that is dangerous; it is the owners who breed and train for aggression. You could do this with any breed; not just pitbulls!
I feel Mr Paul wants to make a name for himself after seeing how notorious that snip of a man Bryant in Canada became. I am a pitbull owner and have kids. I have never seen aggression in any of my pits towards me, my children, or for that matter a perfect stranger! If we allow them to ban one breed, it won't stop, there will be another, another, and another. Before long they will be telling us what kind of animals we can own and how many, then with this freedom "so to speak" they will begin to tell us what we can say and not say. What happened to freedom in the United States. I know priests and politicians that get a slap on the wrist when they kill, rape, or hurt children. Should we begin the process to ban them as well...? I have seen Chows, German Shepherds, Rotweilers bite and maime kids and adults alike, but when a pitbull does it, it is broadcasted all over the country! My dogs are a part of my family and it will be a cold day in hell before some "politician" trying to make a name for himself will take them away! In my own hometown, if you call in a stray dog it takes days for them to pick it up, and children do get bit, but if you call in a stray pitbull that hasn't hurt anyone they are there in minutes! lolol Punish the Deed not the Breed is correct, if you want to make a name for yourself Mr. W. go after the child molesters and drug dealers that you let out of prison, every day, years earlier than they are supposed to be that go back out there and rape, kill, or worse again and again. Do your real job, instead of focusing on America's most LOVED pet that cannot defend itself, because some of us out here will fight to our deaths for this breed!!!! Focus on the real problem with "ALL" breeds, the ignorant, money hungry owners! God Bless America and the "FREEDOM" that comes with living here!
God Bless The Pitbull!
Dogs only behave how they are trained. These dogs are not the problem peaple are the problem. I don't think that these dogs should have to suffer because of stupid people
This bill is ridiculous. It's like saying: A Great Dane is big enough to pick up my child and carry it off. Let's outlaw Great Danes."
An animal is not born mean. I say stricter laws for animal cruelty will help this situation, Education - Not ignorance and hot-headed, ill-conceived legislation.
We need to deal with the source of the problem, the money hungry, irresponsible breeders and ignorant owners. Aren't there some more important issues that require legislative attention, like terrorism, child abuse, poverty and aids?
Pitbulls were NEVER bred to be aggressive towards people because there was no room in the "pit" for dangerous aggressive dogs NO MATTER how badly injured or worked up you should always be able to pick up your dog at any point in the fight with out worrying about being bitten.
actually because of the way they used to breed pitbulls for fighting has made them into the great family pets we RESPONSABLE pitbull owners know today.
Punish those that mistreat these wonderful dogs. Why don't you go after the illegal dog fighting rings, that's where the problem is. Of all the breeds out there the APBT is most loyal, intelligent and loving! My APBT is a part of my family. How would you like it if I took one of your children away?
I am completely and totally against banning any particular breed. The owners are who is and should always be held responsible. These dogs are big sweeties until the wrong person gets ahold of them and changes that. It's not the dog, its the person. Pass a law with better punishment for the people out there that are cruel to these and all other dogs instead.
PEOPLE make dogs bad - dogs are not born that way. Statistics show that more people are seriously bitten by small dogs, i.e., poodles, than Pit Bull Dogs. If you wish to make good legislation, outlaw the disgusting people that raise and abuse these animals for no other purpose than to make them mean and force them to fight.
they are a very gentle breed, it is the owners that train their dog to be like that. also in most cases when they talk about a dog attack they really dont know what breed the dog is, so they just decide to call it a "pit bull". most people nowadays will call almost anything a pit bull. i had a neighbor call my dog a pit bull when in actuality she is a papered AM Staff. like i said they do not know what they are talking about. they are one of the gentlest breeds i have ever known in my life.
whats going to happen to all the great dogs that wont have homes? I have a 11 year old pit. and she is the sweetest dog i have ever met. and it'll be a cold day in hell before anyone can convince me shes a danger. We need to figure out how to regulate ownership not ban the breed.
I have a 12 year old Am Staff, who has been my best friend since high school. He has touched many lives with his kindness including all the children and other pet he met at the pet shops I worked at over the years. He stayed with my father while he was bed - ridden from an accident many years ago. People always told me her should be an embassedor for the breed. I have had MANY dogs over the years, but I don't know that I will ever bond to a dog again like I did him. It will leave a huge hole in my heart when he eventually passes on. I feel blessed for beoing able to share my life with him all these years.
Bad owners should be punished for training there dog of any breed to be mean. Any dog can attack from the smallest chihuahua up to the bigger breeds. I ask Paul Wesselhoft, why we as a military family have sacrificed so much over the past 7 years for a country that is trying to walk on my rights with BSL? Its not the breed at fault here. Its ignorant people.
