yeah its wrong to ban this breed of dog, its all in how someone trains it not just that its an animal, my friend has 4 pits and there all great dogs!!! protect the house and them just the way they're suppose to. DONT BAN THIS WONDERFUL BREED OF DOG,PLEASE!!!OR ELSE!!!
for me there's no difference with pitbulls to some other dogs, keeping dogs is a matter of responsibility, for sure R-Paul Wesselhoft only heard of basd news or articles about this pitbulls, because media or any other publications rarely commence the the good things this dogs has done,he got this wrong impression from the articles he has read, animal experts pls send Rep.Paul wesselhoft proper on dogs,,,PITBULLS SHOULD NOT BE OUTLAWED OR BANNED!
I have 4 pitbulls, I have had them since they were all about 3 months, they were all raised around young children, they are the kindest dogs here in town! I'm scared more of my cousin yorkie, then my big dogs!
I have to be honest, when my boyfriend first told me that he wanted to get a pit bull, I got a little bit worried due to all the bad press that they get. However, we have had our dog for a little over a year and I will never own another dog. They are the sweetest, most loyal animals when you treat them right. Anyone that is for this ban has obviously never owned one or even been around one. Punish the deed not the breed!
"Wesselhoft says he noticed news stories from around the country detailing how pit bull terriers had attacked and mauled people of all ages, including young children."
Certainly, a state representative, of all people, understands the concept of misrepresentation in the media. If Rep. Wesselhoft actually researched the breed, as he claims, and still came to the same conclusion that an uninformed person comes to from watching erroneous news reports; one can only assume that he is either close minded or lying. Either way, this is not someone who is competent enough to be making decisions for the people of this state.
they say that pit bulls are the worst. but there are many ddogs out there that have bitten people, and children. what about horses should we ban them to because they have bitten people, or bucked them off. they have injured many people, even killed i don't hear anything about them. i have 2 pit bulls and they are the best dogs that i have ever had.
This has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I have tried to contact Paul Wesselhoft MANY times and he has someone named Jerry doing his work, this guy has called me twice specificly at times I told him I wouldn't be available. These people have probably never been within 3 feet of a pit bull, so what gives them the right to say we can't have them? I'll keep my dogs no matter what anyone says, I'll move out of this rediculous state, if your going to make laws be sure to have proof of what your saying!
I have had many dogs in my life and the best one I ever had was a pit bull. That dog was my best friend and would have given her life for me. And she never would have hurt a fly, she was the sweetest most gentle dog i've ever had or even seen (and i worked for i vet so i seen a lot).
And here I thought the law stated "Innocent until proven guilty"...obviously not if you're a pit bull owner. Then you're just the "scum of the earth"? Address the real problem...backyard breeders and IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS!
Why is it so difficult to see that until we focus on ownership practices, and not what a dog looks like, or what breed it may or may not be, dangerous ownership practices will continue to cause harm to people.

Paul Wesselhoft is all about media attention the more he gets the more powerful he feels. he is using the poor family of the little boy that got bitten (in moore)by a so called pitbull to better his senate position. he has no education about pitbulls or any dogs for that matter. god will be waiting for mr.Paul Wesselhoft on judgement day if he carries out his foolish plan to snuff out one of gods most loyal creatures. and he calls himself a pastor... what a idiot...
BSL is not the answer pit bulls are magnificent animals in the wrong hands they can be dangerous why not punish bad owners with harsher punishments guns are not banned and they account for many deaths by people that dont need to own them.
Don't judge the breed judge the deed. To truly under stand the American Pit Bull Terrier, one must know the history of its existence.

I am a professional trainer in OKC. Where will you draw the line for type? There are some that may look Pit, but they are not. People need to get trained that own powerful and/or larger breeds.Stop blaming the Dogs.
Create certain regulatory, licencing requrements for those who wish to own pitbulls, make them prove that they will not train the dog to attack. & Spay & Neuter...
Breed Discrimination is not the answer, its the breeders who have to be banned. We have to prevent innocent dogs from getting into the wrong hands, ABUSIVE HANDS.
WE NEED SPAY AND NEUTER LAWS!
I am a private dog trainer and I can say from experience that this breed is misunderstood. Pitbulls are misused as fighting dogs. It's not the breeds fault.. it's the owners. Don't outlaw the breed, punish the owners who misuse the breed instead. Pits are very friendly dogs if raised properly. Go to spaces.msn.com/members/fl amingeagle/ for more.
Why dont we go on ahead and outlaw hampsters! hell I been bit more times by then than a pitbull. Paul is just mad because he as "SmallCockisons" disease.
Mr.Wesselhoft needs to take the time at actually get to know a pitbull before he can have an educated opinion.I am the proud owner of two pitbulls, and they are the most loving and loyal dogs I have ever had.I would trust them with anyone. If this bill passes I will be relocating, I don't want to give my tax dollars to such a closed minded and uneducated state.Hasn't this country learned is lesson about descrimination?
Senator Wesselhoft wants to outlaw Pit Bulls in Oklahoma because of reading or hearing of attacks by one- That is absurd. He needs to research dog attacks reported to the animal control and to 911 and he will find that there is not one specific breed that attacks more than others. Pits have unfortunatly earned a bad reputation because of bad owners who have bred their dogs to protect and fight. This breed is entirely misunderstood! Having worked in a Vet Clinic for over two years, I can confirm that it is my opinion and experience that one is more likely to be bitten by a Rottweiler, Chow, German Shepard, or Cocker Spanial than a Pit Bull!!!
I just want to know why Mr. Wesselhaft thinks he has the power to play God? Who gave him the right to decide what animal can live or die? Every living thing diserves to live. Pit Bulls are not the problem. People are. I have two children (age four and two) and they both grew up with Pits. My dogs are the best baby sitters in the world! I love the breed beyond belief and I want them to stay apart of my family.
I feel that breed-specific legislation is a mistake because it causes people to use the wrong basis for determining if an animal is dangerous. Such determinations should be based on behavior alone.
I am an animal control officer and also an owner of the A.P.B.T. my question to this man is where he got his information and experience regarding this breed in all the bite reports that I have taken over a three year period none of them have been a bulldog.I would like to know how he intends to financially fund this witchhunt that he plans to unleash cities and townships are struggeling as it is to keep up with the pet overpopulation it would take more man power and larger accomidations to house these animals what is next are our taxes going to be raised to pay for something that is unconstitutional.what are his guidelines to make this breed vicious the way they look or the way they bark if thats the case does that mean all foreigners are terrorists I think not.Lets put more effort into making owners responsible for all breeds.
Please donot band this beautiful breed of dogs. I feel as though animals only act on instinct, its not the dogs fault if their owners are breeding them to fight and be vicious. I have a 1 year old pit bull "Dynasty" she is the sweetest dog I have ever had. There are plenty of dogs out there that are more vicious than pitbulls and have a much stronger bite, but why is the pitbull the one who is constantly getting all the bad press. Again, punish the irresponsible owners. Any one who gets bit by any animal, 9 out of 10 times its the persons fault. Animals only attack if they feel their lives are in danger.
my wife and i have 3 pits, a beagle, and a cat. my dogs are some of the most well behaved dogs i have ever had. and in my house, the beagle is the boss, and she is quick to put the pits in their place. as for the cat, as soon as he comes in the house my pits are just all over him, licking and rolling around on the floor together. yes if someone comes to the door that they dont know the bark is pretty scary, butany dog would do that to protect their owner.and i'm smart enough to know that you dont just walk up to any pit much less any dog and pet it. parents keep your kids safe, we as loving responsible owners will keep our dogs safe, and all we ask in return is that you dont punish every one of our animals for the crimes of irresponsible owners, i do agree that vicous dogs should be outlawed, but not every pit is vicous, do we outlaw and kill every vicous human?
punish the owner not the breed depending on the situation. i have 2little girls 5 & 7 ther perfectly safe around all my pit bulls but other people walking up i'm not sure so it's the owners response abilty to keep the dog secure & other people aware not to touch when your not aroun as for kids & adults sticking hands & objects thru fences & climbing over it it's not the pits or owners fault.so punish accordingly. parents of children climbing over other property or teaseing any dog breed should be punishe dnot the animal. and that coming from a parent.
This is ridiculous. At one time I had a lot of prejudice against these dogs because of ignorance and what the media wrote. Right now I have a one year old pit bull at my house, my little terrier "raised him" - he loves her, wouldn't hurt for anything. She does anything to him she wants to including steal his bones. He is full of bark and will definitely stop someone from coming in my front door that he does not know, until I give him the signal. He is loving, sweet, and the most well behaved dog I have ever seen. I love him.
I have a two year old red nose and a 4 month old half pit half american bulldog and 6 children. My dogs are the most loving and obedient dogs I've ever owned. All my neighbors just love them. This is the most rediculous misunderstanding of animals. I was attacked by a german shepherd as a child, and had to have my boston terrior put to sleep do to aggressive behavior. There is good and bad in all creatures.
Pit bulls were not bred to fight until their prey is killed. Pit bulls were bred to do whatever their owner asks of them. So the "vicous pit bull" picture you are trying to paint is actually the result of a human being teaching the dog to do what that HUMAN BEING asks it to do. The dogs are not at fault the people are. Any dog can do what your article states. And the picture you painted is that more of Cujo- a St. Bernard that Stephen King created that became a killer due to rabies. I think you had better do some better research and look at both sides of the issue- not just your narrowminded point of view. If you don't like pit bulls then it is your choice, but to ban them from people who are responsible dog owners who love them is just plain ignorant.
Where were this childs parents? The parents should be charged with neglect. I have two children, one eight and one 5 months, who have been around pits their whole lives and not so much as a growl has been encountered. Everyone knows Bull breeds are extremley protective and a three year old child should not be exposed to an unfamiliar dog of any kind. I say ban neglectful, idiotic parents, not dogs being dogs. Old, closed-minded state representatives are a threat to our citizens too, but we don't propose bills to ban THEM!!hmmmm, there's a thought.
