I have been raised around Pitbulls all my life and i have never had my dog bite anyone , she has tired to protect me from another dog that did growl at me but never has she bite me or my children or any of my family members she is part of my family and i willfight for her anyway i can, it is not the dog it is the owner and how the are raised my dog has been around my children since her birth and i would trust her with my kids tahn i would any other dog. Stop being ignorant and look at the other side of the owners that has the most loving animal in the world. Look at Rots, German Shepards, Chows etc all of these dogs are the same. only diffrence is how they are raised!!!!!!
I support this petition. I have my own pit bull and he is the sweetest dog I've ever met. I know people who are scared to death of all dogs but mine. He's a great pet and loves my family more than any other animal we've owned.
I don't personally own a pit bull, but eventually I hope to do so. My last three dogs have been shetland sheepdogs and an australian shepard. They have biten people before on a couple occasions. I am around a pit bull/rot mix a lot and it is the sweetest dog. It's the owners that cause those dogs to attack- not the breed.
Having been a "responsible" pitbull owner for 8 years, I can honestly say my dog has never attacked anyone. There has never even been a close call! He has always been around lots of people including kids who pull his tail and ears without so much as a growl or bark. He's been raised with lots of love, respect, and discipline. He is not the family pet... He IS Family!
EVERY pitbull I have ever been around in my lifetime have been very "people friendly" I've never seen a "human aggressive" pitbull. Maybe that's because I dont associate with scumbags who TRAIN their dogs to be that way!
This bill will only punish the responsible dog owners. The "bad" owners will continue breaking the law as they always have.
Stiffer punishment of the "Bad" owners along with MORE ACCURATE MEDIA COVERAGE are the right way to solve this problem.

This law will not affect the owner's of pitbulls who bite, because most of those people are not law abiding citizens anyways. It's not the dogs, it's the people, and the people aren't going anywhere but further down...
The results of the UK ban on Pitt Bulls are this "it didn't impact a single dog bite/attack statistic" It will have the same impact here in Oklahoma...NOTHING

Stennis and I do not agree with this proposed ban i grew up with pit bulls and my daughter is growing up with them and they are the sweetest and most loving breed that i have ever came in contact with and if this ban gets passed the i might have to reconsider moving back to oklahoma after my enlistment is complete thank you for your time

This is supposed to be a free country meaning that we should be able to own any kind of dog that we choose to. As a Pit Bull owner and a family man, I REFUSE to allow a certain few demolish this great breed over irresponsible owners.

I think the banning of pit bulls is completely wrong! It all depends on how the animal is raised. It is not the animals fault. If any law should be passed it should be against the owner of these animals who are raising them to be agressive
A dog is only as visicous as its owner.A dog that is loved and cared for with love is not visicous.This is just another way the goverment is trying to control our rights.
This is a ridiculous law. Pit Bulls are no more harmful than Dalmations or Rotweilers. Responsible Pit Bull owners should not be denied their rights. Please revoke this law now as it is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
It is a no brainer to know that any breed that isn't bred or raised by responsible, caring, loving breeders and dog owners will respond by their own example. Just like kids being raised irresponsibly and the kids are out of control,as they learn by example, Paul Wesselhoft should we ban the kids? All dogs including pit bulls have rights and like humans,are creatures from GOD. Promote laws to license the breeders, educate all prospective dog owners in their breed choice so to avoid abandonment to rescues/shelters when they realize their choice of breed was not what they expected. Make laws stricter for dog fighting breeders, animal abusers, ect... to be punished the same if a human does the same act to another human. How would you Paul Wesselhoft like it if you were abused, neglected, starved, caged, beaten like the pitbulls are to make them fight any breed would act the same way if treated this way and so would you! Like the saying goes 1 bad apple ruins it for everyone. Go after the dog fighting breeders not the responsible Pit Bull breeders/Owners. My 12 year old knows that you aren't just born mean of any breed, its who makes you that way by bad upbringing and in breeding. I can give you first hand experience that all Pit Bulls are not mean, I volunteered at an animal rescue and had to handle many dogs of all breeds including Pit Bulls by feeding, cleaning kennels, walking them these so called mean Pit Bulls as you call it were so gentle, friendly, just like all the other breeds that were there that I handled, all these breeds including PIT BULLS responded to me great who they didn't know me I was a stranger to them I interacted to many breeds as well as PIT BULLS on a first time basis by being a stranger to them they didn't attack, bite or do anything wrong to me. So if you categorize all PIT BULLS mean and attack dogs then why did every PIT BULL I came in contact with as a stranger left me reach into their kennel to touc
i don't live in ok but i spend alot of time traveling through you're beatiful state.my husband and i are otr truckers and we travel with our pittbull terrier.we also go to denver quite a bit so we are familiar with the unjust legislation that has been instituted there. the problem is not the dog mr wesselhoft it's with the owner.this is not an animal that can be tied out in the yard and forgotten it is a highly intelligent creature that has to be socialized and properly trained.the fact is that an awful lot of irresposible morons who think that it'd be neat to feed their ego with a big tough pittbull acquire these dogs from other idiots breeding them haphazardly in lees than ideal situations.i agree that there should be legislation that protects these animals from these idiots! put the regulations on backyard breeders make spaying and nuetering mandatory.institute high fines to the people who don't comply

It is wrong to ban a breed of dog, just to quell the wrong-doings of criminals and idiots. The Pit Bull is an American tradition and a fine family dog. Bad people make a dog bad, there are no dogs that are "born viscious", only ones that people make that way. Punish the criminal, not an innocent animal.
Pitbulls did not get a bad rep. by themselves. It is the responsibility of the owner to properly train and raise the dog correctly. These dogs are the smartest most loyal dog on earth. If you ban pitbulls, the people who are responsible for this fighting will just start fighting another breed of dog, obviously they dont care about the dog so what makes you think they care what breed it is that they are mutilating not only physically but their reputation also. I have 2 pitbulls and my 2 year old son sits on them and watches TV, he pulls on their ears and they still dont care. They arent the savages you think they are.
OH yeah my pit bull saved me from a robber that broke into my house, with out my dogs protection i could be dead. How is a dog that saves lives a bad breed. please think about things before you decide to do something. punish the individual dog and their owners not the entire breed!
I absolutley adore my American Pitbull Terriers. I work at an animal hospital and am around all dog breeds and mixes, I have never been bitten or intimidated by a pitbull, not even when I'm poking them with needles! I have on the other hand have been bitten by shit-tzus, chihuahuas, cats and a believe it or not, labrador retriever. My own dogs are papered purebred apbt's and will leave a trail of wet kisses and submissive urination behind at the vets office! I wouldn't know what to do with out my babies.They are all spoiled rotten. Please don't ban my beautiful breed!!! By the way my aunt has service dog he's an American Staffordshire Terrier, the pitbulls close relative. PUNISH THE INDIVIDUAL DOG NOT THE WHOLE BREED, otherwise its a little like racism isn't it?!?
Maybe those who breed fighting dogs, should be treated as sex offenders when caught. Maybe you could call them dog offenders. Mark it on their records and make sure that they can't get another dog by doing check ups on them. Make a list on the internet like sex offenders have so we can see if there are any in our neighborhood. This way we can make sure to keep our dogs away from them as we would our kids from a sex offender. There are all kinds of ways around banning Pit Bulls, but does Sen Wesselhoft have the guts to look at them? If you ban Pits, it will not solve anything. I think it even goes against the constitution, or at least it should. Don't forget this is the land of the free. I should be able to own any kind of breed I want. Sure, America can make it more difficult, but don't completely ban the breed.
I think there should be legeslation passed to prevent irresponsible breeders from breeding Pits and other dogs. Make breeders pay for a state license yearly. This would put money back into the economy and help with the stray problem. The breeders should be punished, not the dogs. They are innocent. You can not eliminate an entire breed and expect to solve the problem of dog attacks. You'd have to eliminate all breeds, because all breeds have an equal potential to attack depending on how they are raised. PUNISH THE DEED AND NOT THE BREED!!!!
i hv 6 APBTs and they are part of the family. They wud never hurt humans even strangers who enter our house. these breed is special. probably the only breed which would prefer humans as companions rather than a pack of dogs.
i've owned two pit bulls and i have two small kids. they have been raise around my male. they have crawled on pulled on him every thing when they were babys. that dog layed under there crib when they were asleep and beside them when they were awake. my pitbull loves my kid. and will do every thing he can for them execpt hurt them.
Banning a breed of dog is never the answer. Places like Italy prove it. They started down that route and now they have something like forty breeds banned, including the Welsh corgi!!! It's clear that once you ban a breed, the people who train them to attack will only switch over to another breed. Then you'll be banning that breed too. What we need are stricter laws regarding all dog ownership. The real problem is the lack of control people have over their dogs and how lenient the punishments for animal cruelty are. Something has to be done, but banning an entire breed of dog because of the actions of a few (compared to the amount of pit bulls in this country, those who attack are very few)is just wrong and will solve nothing.
If you try to ban the Pittbull it will only lead to the misjuding of another breed. What will you do next...ban the doberman, or the boxer? I have been around these animals for years and have never had a problem with them. Any dog could attack if it felt that it or it's owners were being threatened. You can't rightfully ban all types of dogs now can you? You only hear about the pitbull because people need a specific breed to blame. Cocker spaniels are more aggressive then pitbulls. I have a 90 lb German Shepherd that could tear a grown man inhalf...but guess where I got him...from the same shelter that won't adopt out pitbulls. Sorry to say that my dog cold do more damage then any pit out there. Are you going to ban the German Sheperd next? Like I said any dog could do serious damage to a person no matter the breed. You should be going after the people that are mistreating these animals. Put them in jail where they belong. Don't allow them to own any animals. Oklahoma is such an ignorant state when it comes to pitbulls. In Virginia a little boy was killed by a pitbull. The state realized that it was not the pitbulls fault but the stupid parents that left their son alone with an unsocialized gaurd dog. Those dogs are now being tested for aggression and will be adopted out. If that were Oklahoma those poor animals would be dead right now.

It is the media which has given Pit's a bad name. How many non-pit bites are there for every pit bite? Ask the news stations... they don't know, not do they care. One day, a person decided to single out Pit Bulls and everone who advertises against them just jumped on the band wagon. My 8 year old son has a very large scar on his arm from a Cocker Spaniel. The bite from the cocker spaniel didn't make the news... go figure. I think our lovely State Representative needs to jump off the bandwagon and conduct more time researching the issues he intends to act out on.
