I actually do want to learn more than two years of French AND Spanish, but I support this petition because when the classes are filled with people who don't want to learn the language, it's hard for them AND the people who DO want to learn it. After the required time, the people who didn't want to learn it will stop taking the classes and forget what little they did learn. Then all that time that they could have spent learning something they really actually WANT to would be wasted. Oh, and to OK: Google and other online translations are majorly crappy. Either learn the language so you can translate stuff yourself, or get an actual live person to translate for you, or just don't translate anything, since you don't want to know Spanish. And to Speak English Or Shut Up: That is being entirely unnecessarily rude to other languages, many of which are perfectly nice if you get to know them better. If you don't want to do such a thing, then don't, I don't care - just don't insult languages you don't know about. And to Samantha Thompson, I assume, obviously, that foreign languages are neither your preference or your strong point; however, I would hope that your use of your own language, English, will improve greatly in the near future, so that you may learn to write, not this: Change Mandatory 2 yrs of Spanish or French to optionol choice ...But rather, something more like this: Change mandatory 2 years of Spanish or French to optional choice or, if you consider it a title, something more like this: Change Mandatory 2 Years of Spanish or French to Optional Choice -Because, you see, the spelling of the word "optional" is neither "optionol" OR optional.

We don't need to learn Spanish. That's Why We Have Google.

English is the best language. All other languages require LEARNING and unecessary LEARNING is EVIL!

Languages are important. ok they can be boring but if you go to spain or france don't expect them to speak english if u didnt learn their language. im guessing ur all american n in britain we learn french, german or spanish for 3 yrs then in my school u hav to do a further 2 yrs as well. thats 5 yrs!! also think urself lucky u have the opportunity to learn another language!

Most Universeries Require 2-3 Years of Another Language

You guys SUCK. Only a loser could possibly NOT see the benefits of learning another language. Here's just a few reasons why learning languages is good: -good for travel -you learn about another culture, and if nobody ever bothered learning about other cultures, we'd have died of racism ages ago -if opens doors to music, cuisine, literature, etc of other countries -you can make new friends that you wouldn't have the chance to make if you only knew 1 language -it's good for employment opportunities -it enriches your understanding of the languages that you already speak
