On Thursday, March 22 at 8:30 am at the State Capitol in Salem there will be a hearing on SB621 -- the bill that could severely harm ORCA and other Oregon charter schools. Please attend this hearing to show your opposition to this harmful bill!

The complete text of SB621 is in the Files area of your Yahoo group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OR_Charter_School_Parents/files/. It would require that 80% of students in a charter school be residents of the district that sponsors the charter -- which would put ORCA at risk right away -- and limit the number of charter school students within any district to no more than 10%, which would hurt every charter school in Oregon. The bill would also put new restrictions on charter school teachers.

Now is the time to show up, stand up, and be counted! It is critical to your charter school's long-term security that SB621 does not get out of the committee. You won't need to make a speech – there are already several speakers opposed to this bill. What is needed most is your attendance at this hearing. Your presence will send a message loud and clear. Let's make it standing room only at the hearing on SB621!

You can also sign this petition, but your presence would be more valuable then anything!

Charter schools are fast becoming a necessary alternative for our children. Too many children in public schools are not being challenged enough, are being bullied without due consequence to the bullier or their parents and it provides a stable learning environment for children with certain disabilities. Public schools are also becoming more dangerous and not always such a good influence on our children.

Charter schools are a very important alternative to the public schools which, all too frequently, operate for the benefit of the administration, labor unions, and social engineers - instead of the students. Limiting the charter school movement is absolutely the wrong thing to do. An environment where public schools are held accountable is sorely needed. Wealthy people have always had many options. It is past time for working families to have some options on how to utilize their education tax dollars.
