Put simply, the game suffers from horrible slowdown and drops in frame rate that happen too frequently to ignore. PES 2008 is for a next-gen console but it is not a next-gen game. You cannot ignore the fact that, for whatever reason, this is a poor effort from Konami.
PES executive producer Shingo 'Seabass' Takatsuka himself has said that he was "shocked" at the PS3 slowdown and that he doesn't have a clue why it's happening. Unfortunately this won't cut it for gamers who have forked out hundreds of pounds for a PS3, a platform that is supposed to be the most powerful console in the world. Slowdown and poor frame rates are so last gen.
It's amazing to think that some scientists have replaced supercomputers with PS3s, and an experienced game developer can't get a football game to run without having a heart attack. It is with a heavy heart, a heart that has been in love with Konami's brilliant football series for longer than I can remember, that I cannot recommend PES 2008 on the PS3 over FIFA 08 on the same console.

So why release something that is unfit for purpose ?

I say we should all return the game and get refunds, this is totally unacceptable!

337 19 Feb 2008 - 18:38    Michael Hinkley : The game should never have been released with such obvious flaws and it's so annoying that updates have still not solved the problem! How can some developers manage to get games like Burnout Paradise to work so smoothly but a football game causes the system so many problems.I agree it is a very poor effort from Konami!
336 17 Feb 2008 - 19:48    Utkarsh : God do something please recall the games if u must we love pes but not like this
335 16 Feb 2008 - 7:01    Mufudzi Kennedy : on ps3, the game improved significantly after the patch was released. however, network mode is utterly useless! inexplicable things happen, like the ball disappearing when you're attacking and reappearing in your own goal! it's beyond a joke! i know the developers will get their arses in gear, and sort it out for next year's release but everyone that's bought 2008 deseve a huge discount for next year. that's the only way they could make it up to us loyal fans of the pro evo series, because this is absolutely unacceptable!!!
334 16 Feb 2008 - 1:17    Simon Falconer : totally unacceptable.
333 7 Feb 2008 - 3:44    steve : i played an entire penalty shoot out in slow motion. the graphics and slow down are not good. this game actually put me off buying a ps3. pro evos the only game i play so i sticking with the ps2 version.
332 5 Feb 2008 - 11:07    Liam : Great game apart from all the bull***t lag and slowdown. Online is a joke. Sort the f****r out konami
331 29 Dec 2007 - 1:13    DP : Konami, you've really let us down on this one; were the quality control guys sick during development or something. Please release a fix for this ASAP.

325 29 Nov 2007 - 7:04    Dave : 360 version...EVEN after the 'patch' there is horrible slowdown on line, I feel cheated and angry. This must fall under the sales of goods act, product is unfit for purpose!Gonna trade in for Fifa 08, hoping for a decent game of footy.
324 26 Nov 2007 - 13:32    jamie : 360 version is unplayable online. I've been playing PES for years but this is the last time Konami get any money from me.

315 14 Nov 2007 - 0:53    Beef : Whoever rated this piece of s*** at anything above a 3 out of 10 should be shot imo. 3 would have been a generous score too...Anyone noticed how long this patch is taking? I advise all of you to send this game back - get reimbursed the cost
314 13 Nov 2007 - 15:17    PBux : ****e game, long time Pro Evo fan now considering Fifa as this version is so bad...
313 12 Nov 2007 - 17:39    Mr Boycott Konami : I've left this petition until today for one reason. I wanted to see what kind of statement Konami made regarding the patch. Well, Konami have issued a page on their site, relating to the problems and their supposed solutions. Let me tell you now, that NONE of the solutions work. It's pure rubbish. I can only presume that Konami are stalling for time, in the hope gamers returns guarantees expire, meaning they keep the money for the game. Don't get caught out people. Your money is better in YOUR POCKET not theirs. Konami have apparently set a deadline of Nov 19th for this patch but how can we trust the patch will work? It seems they've identified nothing! It also seems they are concentrating on the online play much more than the dreadful offline. This has been the biggest waste of my money ever. I will never buy a Konami title again.
312 11 Nov 2007 - 23:12    Jorge Jardim : Please do something or gimme my money back!!!!
311 11 Nov 2007 - 18:58    Fas : PES 2008 on PS3 is a peice of shiiiite
310 11 Nov 2007 - 18:48    jim outram : I like so many, am extremely disappointed with PES 2008, it is actually worse than PES6 on PS, considering the power of PS3 this should have been far, far better. The editing options for kit/ badges etc. are worse than PES6, the option to add your face is a nice touch, but again, insufficient editing capabilities let this down. Once again the lack of proper player/ team/ cup names or support to have easy downloadable roster chnages etc. The framerate issue is well discussed and also is unacceptable on a next gen game. The manual for getting online - ****s! Konamis support for getting online ****s! On a BluRay disc, there should be plenty of room for a much better array of stadiums with a stadium gallery, featuring proper stills and facts about geniune stadiums. Do the people who design this game actually watch football games on TV - what we want is an interactive version of this experience. The crowd on PES2008 is better than other versions, but is horriblly blocky on replays - again, not acceptable for a next gen version. Konami could learn a lot from EA about individual player stats (for example like their NHL series) where you can click on a player and see how many goals they've scored and assists etc. - again on a PS3 hard-drive, loads of data could be stored regarding this. It all helps the game feel more believable. There should be an option to add your own music selection to the game. There should be a way of updating player likenesses on your master league option file once you've started - you can update strips, but not player likenesses.
