http://www.PETPetition.org has announced a petition to save our pets lives - to make pet food safe.

This is a US and Canadian petition for legislation in the US Senate and Senate in Canada (where the maker of the pet foods, Menu Foods is based) to insure the safety of our pet's food by enacting the SAFE PET FOOD ACT that sets minimum rules and requirements for the food ingredients that go into our all pet foods. At present there are only voluntary standards and practices. Our goal is very simple and can be enacted immediately. It's about consumer disclosure. The Act at minimum should require that the ingredients in pet food meet the same standards for human consumption -OR- be stated on the packaging that if just one ingredient is not human-grade, the package contain the label "NON-HUMAN GRADE" in a box clearly displayed in at least 14 point font and brands featuring all human-grade ingredients can be labeled HUMAN GRADE. As consumers, we must be able to make an informed decision on the quality of our pet's food just as we would a child or other loved one.
