To whom it may concern,

The Pittsburgh penguins, a hockey team captained by one of, if not, the greatest player of all time: Mario Lemieux. As it stands now, they’re lease on Mellon arena is up in 2007, and as it stands now, if the officials of Pennsylvania don’t get something done by this summer the Penguins are free to look for another city to relocate. A great team, one that came into the league in 1967.
And one that may be leaving in 2007, leaving behind a legacy that won’t quite be matched, a legacy that held the struggles of they’re early years, and great moments such as when Mario Lemieux Dawned the penguins jersey, laced up his skates and was determined to get this team to a cup. New moments, Sidney Crosby, perhaps the greatest young player since gretzky and Lemieux to arrive in the NHL. Moments when star players such as Mario, Jagr, and solid players that help make a team what it is like Bob Errey, Piertoanglo, hard hitters like Ulf Samuleson hoisted the cup over they’re heads in what is now Mellon arena. I could go on and on, the players the coaches the moments in which are instilled in the ice at Mellon arena could be lost forever, never to be regained. Some say is it really worth it? Is it really worth building a new arena for this team, some that are applying for slots don’t endorse it, others do. Why? Why don’t they endorse it? Once they tear down the Mellon arena and don’t have plans to put up a new one, that’s it, its gone forever, the penguins gone just like that because some folks kept dragging they’re feet, not wanting to engage in discussions, not wanting to endorse a new arena that would tie into a slots license. They may relocate back to Pittsburgh, another team that is, or the NHL may expand and may come back ten years later…sadly it won’t be the same, it won’t be the same team that had a 199 point scorer, one that had two Stanley cups, one that endured struggles long before achievements. It will be a new team, perhaps one that comes over from Dallas, they won’t really be the Pittsburgh Penguins. This team has drawn in over 35% more attendance than the last year they played, that is a significant boost in attendance. Attendance that includes young children who’s faces light up when they see a player they’ve been told about over and over like Mario, like Sidney. It includes Teenagers that play hockey, that look up to these guys and often ‘got’ into the game of hockey because of these once in a lifetime players. It includes Adults, and senior citizens who remember all to well that faithful year of 1967 when the Penguins were introduced in the NHL and that wondrous year in 1984, the draft of Lemieux, the year of 2005, the draft of Sidney Crosby. If the officials of Pennsylvania decide to keep dragging their feet, and do not get anything done soon - then these great people that attended the games at Mellon Arena will no longer have the joy of sitting in B-25 Or A-27 And enjoy there longtime favorite team in hockey. Fans have continually showed their support for keeping this team in Pittsburgh, petitions have started, slots for Mario, Privately owned sites, heck even The penguins own site there are Tons of topics being started to support the Pittsburgh penguins. Please for Pittsburgh, for the people of Pittsburgh, Please endorse and or support a new arena deal. Its not fair for this city, for these people to be stripped of something they so strongly support because some folks won’t sit down and work out a plan for a new arena. No doubt it is not easy, no doubt it will have its difficulties…but then again didn’t the penguins in 1984, didn’t they in 1989? They got over the hump, they found a way to get to the cup in win it. Now the officials of Pennsylvania must find a way to keep the penguins here. The fans support it, we want everyone to support the penguins that can.

Thank you, one of many Pittsburgh Penguin fans.

I lied like all of those managing the funds going towards the new arena are. I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS. It is a joke that that much money is going to be put towards a new arena when there is so much more needed in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. I know wishing ill on the Penguins and the rich bastards making money off of the arena would be stupid, but isn't spending millions on an arena with 3 hugely expensive sporting buildings already in it pretty dumb too?

Penguins are finally contenders and now they could move. If I had $290 million to spare it would go right to the penguins.

With the penguins selling out in their last 14 of 16 games and due to how much merchandise has been sold over the last couple of weeks should be a sign that this is a team that MUST stay in the Burgh and if they leave everyone will think the mayor and/or whoever else was at fault for not giving the penguins what they deserve because in my opinion they deserve ALOT for playing in an arena for this long.. They are a playoff team right now and we are willing to give them up.. How DISAPPOINTING!!!!
