Dogs are like kids in my opinion to a certain degree. Kids that grow up in an abusive home and are sexually, physically and mentally abused and grow up to be serial killer or serial rapists...is it really that childs fault. And just like those kids a dog that grows up in a home with neglect, abuse, not socialization or training, and grow to not understand and hate people, is it really that dogs fault. I dont believe it is. ANY BREED OF DOG CAN BITE!!!!! I've seen pits that have been through hell and back and when they are finally rescued they have wagging tails. These dogs are not inherantly evil as some would have you say, they are just like any other breed and they have the possibility of any other breed to bite. In other countries where the distibution of breed populations is different you have different breeds at the top of the list. Back in the 20's when the afghan was the highest populated breed in the US, they were in highest in fatal dog attacks, while at that time the pit bull was a symbol of the strength and courage of the US. Man how times have changed. People are very inpressionable and what the media tells them they believe.
Say no to discrimination. A chow-chow, german shepard or doberman is just as dangerous. There should be a general dangerous dog law, not a breed specif law.
I have owned pit bull dogs and never had a problem, however I have known people who have had several and had a problem with all of them...It's all on the owner, it's not the dogs fault that once you make them mad it's too late!
Ignorance and cruelty has lead to the reputation of the pit bull to be what it is today. These are wonderful dogs in the hands of responsible owners. The world needs to know!
It is not the breed it is the deed !!! The Pit Bull is an intelligent and loyal dog and in the hands of the human monster who turns a wonderful animal into a beast. It is that scenario that all the world is aware of, not the sweet tender haearted good dog the Pit bull really is, because you do not see that in the media..It is only the bad that is brought out..Well the human being is the cause of the bad and that is where the problem lies
Research Research Research!!! This breed was NEVER bred for human aggression. Responsible owners and lovers of this breed will not tolerate a human aggressive dog they will do right by the breed. Concentrate on the owners of the dogs that do the deed, not the breed as a whole. The breed is a wonderful family dog, loyal, loving, athletic, a real part of the family. Try doing a story on the REAL breed and not the media hyped version.
I own a 2 yo American Pit Bull, she is a dream companion and she loves every person she meets, unless they make ME scared. Pit Bull Terriers are quite possibly the smartest dog breed out there, they are working every day with sick people in hospitals all over the US, they work in search and rescue, and they are companion animals for people with disabilities. These dogs when properly socialized and trained by competent and loving owners would NEVER appear in the news for negative behavior. The ones we do hear negativity the stories and reports are altered or lack plausible data to support the claims, primarily do to the media stance and ability to invoke a mentality in viewers to dance around the facts and rebuke scientific and legitimate data from professionals and loving families alike.
Pit bulls are the most amazing dog breed. They stand for loyalty, love, and courage. Pit Bulls will protect their families or owner if they feel that their families or owner is in danger.
I own a 2 y/o American Pit Bull Terrier. She loves to have people come visit her. In fact, when my mother comes to visit, she absolutely can not control her excitement and covers her with kisses and practicly does back flips for her. My dog is also my 7 y/o daughters best friend. She is just like any other "normal" dog...she even does tricks such as jumping through hoops and waving goodbye. She has also donated blood on several occasions. My dog is not a killer, as most of the millions of APBTs out there are not. It's time for the REAL TRUTH to come out!
Since college, my absolute, best friend in the whole world is my Am Staff, Titan. Over the years he has touched the lives of many people. He went to work with me at the pet store every day for 6 years and loved all the attention, mostly from children! He also stayed with my dad for weeks, lying at the foot of the bed, while his foot healed after being crushed in an accident. He was great company for him. He is still with me now at age 11 and I can't imagine my life without him. I know others have been touched by these wonderful dogs, the same way we have. SAY NO, TO BREED BANNING!
As a person who tends to veer more to the left than right, I must say that I'm frustrated with the liberal government's choice to set limitations on such a "free" country. First it was the banning of smoking in bars, and now the banning of pit bulls. When will we address the owners of these pit bulls, and should it not be them that face persecution? I have been bitten by schnausers, mice, bichon frises, poodles, jack russells, chihuahuas and a plethora of other animals, and yet they do not get banned. So I assume the reputation precedes pit bulls.
Too bad. What will be our next restriction? Will dinnerware be banned because knives and forks are sharp? How about we ban heart attacks, since they haven't done anything good for anyone?
Seriously, let's rethink our priorities by first, addressing these issues instead of running from them like cowards.

p.s. I happen to know of some very nice, friendly pit bulls. But that seems like such a moot point.
it brings a tear to my eye everytime i hear or read about how "bad" our beloved breed is. If they only knew just how loving, loyal, stable, secure ,confident.... i could go on, the american pitbull terrier and all other bully breed dogs are !!
I started out owning Pit Bulls, and now own American Staffordshire Terriers. When I was 18 and had moved out of my parents house, many people voiced their concerns (to my parents) about me living along with a pit bull. My dad responded by telling them to think about what they were saying..... his 18 yr old daughter LIVING ALONE with a pit bull. He was happy that my dog was there to protect me as he had spent much time with her and knew that she had a stable loving temperament. As the years have gone by, I have witnessed many people who have admitted their ignorance after meeting either my dogs, or friends dogs. One example was a breed specific legislation meeting I attended. One person passed around a bunch of pictures of different breeds of dogs. He urged the coucil members to pick out the pit bull. None could do it. Another person brought his pit bull who was a therapy dog. There happened to be awards given out that night to a local boy scout troop. Imagine the council members expressions when during the break they saw a bunch of kids running up and hugging one of the pit bulls they were trying to ban. Several council members apologized, to (us) pit bull owners, that they had been so ignorant to the large population of RESPONSIBLE owners. They had no idea that these dogs were loving house pets, show dogs, or that they were even able to be registered with the UKC or AKC (American Staffordshire Terriers were also the target of the ban).
Unfortunatly, the loyalty of the breed has been exploited by many people which is why I feel that we need to not punish the good owners by making them get rid of their dogs, but rather punish the people who are abusive and irresponsible to theirs.
I'm a long time Pitbull owner. Me and my family have done Pitbull rescue, we've bred these wonderful dogs and always done proper traing with them.Of all the dogs I've had contact with Pitbulls are the smartest, most trainable and for my money "The Best Breed"! I would not have any other dog, period!
Every Pitbull I've ever met was friendly. The dogs I've met have had responsible owners. How can people say that it's the dogs fault when the owner has trained the dog to be aggressive. I think people should be punished!
Bon courage.
The whole view on Pit Bulls is just like Racial profiling. It's not fair for people to say you can't live here because you are Black, hispanic, ect. So why do it for these dogs? It's the Irresponsible owners that give these dogs bad names. We own 10 American Pit Bull Terriers and we have never had an issue with them and we have a 3 year old son that plays with all of them. One will sleep with him at night. There are 2 types of pits. You have "game bred" dogs and you have your "show/family"family dogs. Your "game bred dogs are the ones that are suppose to be other animal aggerssive but not aggressive towards humans. People that get these game bred dogs are training them for protection which is against what they naturally know which will make them turn on People. These Show dogs are different. Yes, they may growl at other dogs but so do chiuauas. It all comes down to this, everything has teeth and everything can bite. You have teeth you can bite too. Punish the stupid people that don't do the research on these dogs and not the responsible bereders and owners that know the breed and how to care and socialize their dogs!
I have been breeding the APBT now for 4yrs. And I never had any bad experiences with them nor had any clients come back to complain. All of our customers have been satisfied to a T. People need to understand that bad ownership can pertain to an aggressive dog. And then there are those people who breed Game Bred Pits...not cool! People need to research the breed and understand that these dogs come from different bloodlines. If you know the bloodlines, you will know the breed. Meet the Dam and Sire, see how there temperaments are! There are alot of ways to make sure that the pit bull pup you are going to purchase will prove to be a great dog for the family or a beast in nature.

If people were to watch the Eucanuba Turnamit of Champins thay would of heard the Judges say and I quote " Thease are not bad dogs it is bad owners that don't know how to train then". I know someone who got bit by a Cokerspanel should we go ahead and kill this breed too?
who wants to be a part of a mosiac with holes in it where misunderstood cultures, ethnicities, breeds of animals used to be but we deemed them 'natrually agressive' -- educate then plubilicate
should we not breed humans because of a few serial killers that were either chemically unbalanced or abused as children? There are too many variables involved to single out the breed. All animals are unpredictable and should be respected for that. It is said that sharks dont attack swimmers too... most do not and it relies heavily on the circumstances in each different situation. In contrast to reply #1147, I do disagree... there are no such thing as bad children, just children that do naughty things, and I believe the same is true of dogs. They are as innocent as children and just learning as they go with a slightly more protective nature because they usually do not have their moms around to watch over them.
The breed is not the problem. There are many breeds (including man kind) that were bred with an inate "guard" spirit. Many dogs fall into the guard dog category. That does not mean they are bad dogs. Bad dogs, like bad children, have the adults in their lives to thank.
Educate people to love and respect all that is alive.
If you destroy pit bulls, are you prepared to destroy the many dogs that "look like" pit bulls? What about all the other "guard dogs"? Rottweilers? Dobemen? Staffordshire? Where would the killing end?
Again, create sensitivity and respect in children and adults towards all that is living.
There has never been a pit bull born aggressive towards people. It is the people that train the dogs to be mean. Punish the people and not the dogs. Banning pit bulls would be like what Hitler did to the Jews. Punish the bad people, not the good dogs.
Ban Breeds will never slove any problems. Educate Owners will solve them.
You cannot input to dogs facts made by humans. Did you already seen a pitbull saying to his owner "hey man ! You take me to a fight tonight ?". No, for sure ! It's always HUMANS who make dogs agressives.
Stop that and really think to find a great solution to make that no more dogs (and not only pitbulls) bite people.

Banning breeds is unconscionable and the ultimate ignorance. Even the most experienced animal handlers cannot properly identify Pits thereby condemning innocent animals mistakenly idenified as Pits or Pit mixes. This would be just another copout in society's monumental failure to protect innocent animals. The ultimately tragic irony being that Pits are arguably the most affectionate of all breeds and like all dogs, they give unsurpassed loyalty and unconditional love to humans.
Dogs should be given the chance to choose owners. Most pitbulls owners are disgusting and should be punished as human beings.
It's time to create a legal certificate to
each owner specifing whether they have the right profile to be a pitbull owner.
My daughters are my live and I would never exposure them to any danger.
Near where I live (Lisbon - Portugal) there are some gardens where the owners of dogs go to walk and play with their pets. My two daughters (1 and 3 years old) love to come with me to play with the dogs that go there (boxers, german shepards, pit bulls, no breed, etc…).
Pitbulls are no different from the other dogs that play with my daughters...
If someone trains a Chihuahua to attack it probably would bite someone and if a pitbull was trained to be friendly it would be a less dangerous dog than the Chihuahua!!!
Educate the dog owners. Fight to stop the dog fights. Punish the people that abuse animals, not the animals. They can’t choose their owners as we can’t choose our family.
