the dog or pup can only do what the owner alloys it to do ,will only react to what the owner alloys it to react to ..bottom line we cant blame anything on the dog except what we allow to happen..decipline is the key ..responsiblity is a must.
I horrified at the fact that so many people believe this stereotype among pitbull i own a pit ridgback mix two dogs that are banned by BSL and she is the nicest dog in the world and my best friend we play on a flyball team and she goes with me any place and the poeple who come to pet her are always so happy the only kind of attacking she does is love kisses and wags
It is not the breed, it is the irresponsible owner. Take a look at what some of these dogs are subjected to - and they still will wag their tail when they are given the slightest bit of affection. Dogs are mans best friend, but man is not necessarily dogs best friend.
Pit Bulls are just agresive as any other breed that is taught to be so.
My grandson loves his Pit Bull, and is so excited with the 3 new pups she had,he got to name them. That dog would die before anything happened to my grandson.
I am so shocked after seeing the movie. Human beings are the worse kind of animals, those who mistreat these poor dear Pit Bulls should be incarcerated. My son's family own a female Pit Bull and she is so loving,my grandson adores her and she him.
Pits do get a bad rap. I have 2 children and we had a pit from the time they were young. He was a great dog. Sorry to say we had to put him to sleep due to health issues.
i own a pit bull, pit bulls can be aggresive but no more aggresive
then any other dog that is used along the lines of home or property security it depends on the owner how the dog will act same with human beeings it is complete stupidity to ban a dog becuase of irrasponible owners
any thing that has potential dangers for sale or use in the u.s. has restrictions maybe the same should be used with the pit bull but if so theres alot of other dogs that should be monitered the same ive never had a pit bull be aggresive to me but i have had confrintations with plenty other dog breeds!!!!!!!!
Pit Bulls are a much-maligned breed, and they DO NOT deserve it! They make wonderful pets, and irresponsible owners are the ones to blame for the "bad rap" that they get...
Any kind of dog will be a great & loyal pet if we treat them properly; pitbulls are no exception. They have been abused by the authority who does n't want troubles, so shift the blame to pits. We should SAVE the pitbulls. Stop this biased attitude towards pitbulls !
This breed is paying for human mistakes.Instead of addressing the real problem, we take it on the dogs. This time it is the APTB , tomorrow it will be another breed.
How about something on how pitbulls were once the good ol' American dog and how irresponsible breeders distorted the bloodlines in order to breed a larger more aggresive dog. I was just looking around on the net for prospective pups and came across breeders selling registered pits with parents weighing in excess of 100lbs. I have two beautiful females, one of which I will not breed because she stopped growing at 72lbs and that is just too heavy for a female, fat or not. The other is a super athletic, rock and solid at a game 45lbs who I may never breed simply because I can't find a suitable stud. Please educate those ignorent people attempting to create a super dog breed that just haven't realised they already have one. Parents are punished today when their children are delinquent, what's the difference with a dog. It only knows as much or as little as it is taught.
Pit Bulls are one of the most stable and people-loving breeds on the planet. There are tens of thousands nationwide who bring joy to the sick and elderly by their work as therapy dogs, like one of my Pit Bulls. Her name is Amber. And she does therapy visits twice every month. But, you never hear about the good ones. Punish the deed, not the breed. Did you know that Pit Bulls score higher on temperament tests than Golden Retrievers? Most people can't even pick out a Pit Bull from a group of 20 different pure breed dogs.
Once again a case of pet owners not taking responsibility for their animals. Pit Bulls can and are ready and willing to be excellent family members that love their owners. Will America ever stand up and take responsibility for its people instead of blaming innocent animals and allowing them to pay the ultimate price?
please note i in no way belive in the crulty of dog fighting, but i'm trying to teach people of the true past of are breed and why there the way they are today. At this time i only have the three pits. they are all ADBA,AADR reg. one is UKC. to. two are from a old but still strong bloodline and the other has more of the today short and stocky look. there all great with people but the one female needs to be watched around other dogs as should all pits.what people don't under stand is the thugs that get these dogs and fight them and make them mean know nothing of this breed. in the day's when UKC had legal fights most of them were respected dog people, high class people. and they never tolerated a people agressive dog, for they were in the ring with the dogs along with a referee. not like the back yard fights of today. that is why this breed is so loyal to people. banning a dog breed is like banning guns. the bad guy's will always have them but us law biding people are left unarmed. i could go on all not wrighting on this breed but i haven't that time. may be some day!
Pitbulls aren't naturally vicious, as with any animal it's how they are brought up. If you treat them well they will be good happy gentle dogs if you treat them visciously they will be vicious.
I don't understand why pitbulls are singled out. Before owning two and was afraid of all dogs. Now I think that I own one of the best dogs in the world. And he happens to be a pitbull. They are very loyal and all that they really want is to love and be loved. I get so upset when they are singled out in newspapers, news on t.v. and they even determine weather or not you can move into certain apartments, it's just rediculous and I hope that our side gets heard.
I have had good experiences with the pits, rotties, peis, dobies, etc that I have become in contact with and there have been many since I do rescue work as well. I am a firm believer it is the owners that make the dogs mean---cause I currently have 10 dogs all from various backgrounds and shelters with abuse history and am having no problems with them--they know their place and mine ...and they are absolutely wonderful---so I will help where I can with these wonderous creatures---
I BELEIVE PETS BEHAVE AS WE SOW THEM...IF WE SHOW THEM BAD THEY WILL REACT IN A BAD WAY,BUT IF YOU GIVE LOVE TO YOUR PETS THATS ALL YOU WILL RECEIVE,PURE LOVE FROM AOU FURY FRIENDS....
I have never owned a pit but I know "owners" raise the dogs to be good dogs or bad dogs just like every bred out there. I have raised a doberman, a cocker spaniel, various mixed breeds, a st bernard and now oldes........my dogs have never bitten anyone but I know of other dogs in these breeds that have, all depends on how they are raised and bred. Just my opinion.......
I am proud to say that my family includes a pitbull. A pitbull that absolutely loves people. A pitbull that's best friends with a Shepherd/Malamute and 4 little Yorkshire Terriers that don't even combine to half her weight. This isn't at all strange for her breed. Pitbulls aren't dangerous. People are dangerous. Stop blaming the dogs.
When an owner loves his apbt and is loyal to his apbt the apbt will show the same to people as it has been taught to do so. The apbt want to be loved as much as it wants to love. Punish the awfull owners not the breed of this beautifull animal.
It would be nice to see a respected news source report what these dogs really are as opposed to what a few improperly raised ones have done. I have 2 children, 1 being a 13 year old with cerebal palsy, and wouldnt want any other dog with them then an APBT.
Why can't we start learning from a lot of other countries' mistakes (England had a ban in place and then in '97 changed it because they found it didn't treat the problem...."dangerous dogs" which are not all pit bulls!!!!)
Rottweiler's and Chow's are more aggressive in my opinion than any Staffie or PitBull Ive ever encountered. I work for seattle Animal Control and I see all kinds of different breeds and Pitbull's are some of the sweetess people loving breeds Ive seen. The only problem I see with pit's are that the shelters are filled with them. Like someone already said it's become a fad to own this breed which is sad. This is a an extremely courageous and noble dog. That should be owned by responsible people. There is no such thing as a bod breed of dog and yes that even means Chow's & Rottweiler's.=)
It's not the animal, it's the owner!!!!
Pit bulls became a FAD and too many of these animals ended up in the hands of irresponsible pet owners. ANY animal can and will attack without the proper training and attention.
I own a few pitbulls that I raised and show.I also do Pit rescue and I have had many dogs come through, and even though they had been majorly abused or abandoned they always have been very wonderful dogs.
I have been involved with this breed since 1983. I don't believe that breed specific bans are the answer but fully support high fines/penalties for irresponsible owners of all breeds. Please make it possible for the public to see the true American Pit Bull Terrier!

I own two Pitbulls. They are not vicious, nor have they hurt anyone. Why? Because they were raised right. If you don't give them love and attention they will be mean and aggressive, the same goes with most all dogs and even people. These dogs need to be treated with love and I promise you, they will give only love back. We need to show people that these dogs are not how they are portrayed to be. It is the owners fault how the dog turns out.
It is not the dog, it is the owner. By nature that is who they want to please. Why don't we spend our time and resources on the humans that train these animals to fight and be vicious? After all, they will just get more and continue to train and torture these dogs to make them mean.
Owners are responsible for there pets. Pitbulls are just this generations Germanshepard or Doverman. Banning the Pitbull will not solve the issue of people miss treating/training there pets.
I currently own one pit bull. She was brought into our home with 2 babies under the age of 2. These babies were able to actually put their little hands into her mouth and play she would just sigh and wait for them to tire of their game. Now that the children are older she is quite protective of them. I agree that the time to protray the good side of these misunderstood animals is way overdue. I would gladly adopt another pit bull without thinking twice.
A more suitable resolution to the problem of dog bites by Pits would be education of the owner. Some owners are just ignorant or don't care enough to properly train their animal. Any large breed without basic obedience training can be a potential threat.
I am on my third pitbull ownership. All three have been very good dogs. My third had been badly abused before I took her in. With love, proper care and PROPER discipline, she has become very sweet lady. I know for a fact that this is a breed like any other that needs a good responsible owner. This is not a breed to be reviled. I agree that the tragedy of animal abuse needs to be addressed more forcefully. 90% of the laws that pertain to animal abuse are only misdemeanors. I feel very strongly that those laws need to be strengthened to protect the helpless animals. They cant pick up a phone and call for help. But we can and should.
The way any dog of this breed behaves is a direct reflection on it's training, it's treatment, and it's owner. These are sweet, loving dogs and no breed should be banned. How about dealing with the cruelty to animals that causes these problems in the first place or training them as attack dogs? When you give them love, and teach them love, that is what they give in return.
The myth that surounds these dogs is the same of the ones of a dog that I own, a Dobberman. In each of these breeds you can relate their behavior back to the owner of the pet, essentially, if you raise a nice dog - the breed doesn't matter. Pit are Good Doggies too.
This breed needs out help. Please let this story be heard. These animals are the best. It all depends on the owner and how they are raised. Ban the deed not the breed!!!
