Pit Bulls as a breed are not the problem; it's a people problem. The Pit Bulls are the victims of the condemnation and cruel treatment. It's sad that the breed that has the title of the most decorated war dog and was the symbol of the U.S. during World War I is now being condemned and victimized in his own nation.
If the media would share the truth, perhaps folks would understand that it does not matter what breed of dog is troubled, but that responsible ownership is the real story. It used to be Dobermans, german Shephard Dogs, Rottweillers...whatever the bad guys want to make evil will be what the media reports on. Pit Bull Terriers are not inherantly evil vicious animals. Quite the opposite actually. They have to be gentle with humans for them to be handled the way the bad guys use them. Report on the bad owners, not incorrect stories which cause sensationalism and fear. Be honest. Do some research. Meet some dogs.
As with any dog, an owner spending the proper amount of time can bring up an animal like a child with the right values and controled temperments towards others!!!
I used to be scared to death of Pit Bulls because of all the news stories about them. A friend of mine adopted one a few years ago, and I was very hesistant to visit her at her home because of her dog. When I finally got up the courage to meet her dog, he was nothing but a big mush. Her Pit Bull is sweeter than any dog I know and has quickly become my new best friend. He is WONDERFUL around every one Adults, children and babies. He has never displayed any sort of aggressive behavior.Since then I have met several other Pit Bulls, all of them were just as sweet and friendly. Please do a positive segement about Pit Bulls so others that think like I used to can see what a great breed of dog the Pit Bull really is.
Please dont play into a media trap and allow them to make us look like fools. all dogs have the potential to be bad dogs but one breed alone is not worse than another. There is better ways to address this issue before we ban an entire breed. Lets think about what were doing before we do it and consult with others like in the U.K where this breed has been banned but bites have not decreased
Besides the fact that I think that pits are one of the best breeds known to man, IMO they are the true and original family dog! There are many elderly people that I have spoken with saying how they remember many homes(back in the day is the typical reference) having a pit in the household.
The mistakes that are made into stories by the media are the result of in-proper training from humans.
Just like the saying.... guns don't kill people... people do. Well IMO, there aren't bad dogs... just bad training provided to those dogs.
for years i worked as a delivery man. Never in all that time was I attacked or bitten by a large dog. It ws always small dogs, that bit. So how about a ban on Yorkshire Terriers. Of course, that won't happen. The media has over exposed, bites by large dogs. Why, a lasapso, biting is not headline grabbing subject.
I am a lead animal care taker at my local shelter also President of our local dog sport club and have been the focus of posotive "pitbull" press in my city Rochester MN. Things need to change people make the dog and the genral public need to see that!!!
I support fair and just media representations. Most tv segments on pit bulls employ "scare tactics" and sensationalism to agitate viewers and amplify their ratings. I encourage FOX News to offer a fair and just view of pit bulls, rather than promoting hatred and fear against these animals with biased, one-dimensional reporting. I believe most Americans like to hear and see the whole truth about an issue and then decide for themselves.
Let us look at this as realistic adults with inelligence...it is not the DOG that is evil, but the owner that instills it in the pet, be it a pit bull or a poodle!
No dog is inherently evil. Dogs respond to their owners and will do what pleases them. If the owner wants a fighting dog, then they will produce one. Don't punish a breed. Punish the owners.
I have been in contact with American pit bull terrier's for yeas, and have NEVER come across an aggressive one. PICK ON THE EVIL MONGREL OWNERS WHO TRAIN THEM TO ATTACK.
Pit Bulls are not the crazed killers they are made out to be. Its the people who own them that need to be stopped not the dogs. Educate the owners license the breeders but do not ban the breeds. Mean Dogs are created not born!
Please empower the legislators to deal with the present crisis of irresponsible dog ownership and breeding. If legislators truly wanted to change anything, they would deal in the present and not in the future!
I've never owned a Pit Bull so I'd like to see Fox do a piece on them for my on education. Also, from what I've read, this bill sounds more dangerous than the dogs.
As the old saying goes, there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. Dogs are meant to be companions not chained out and forgotten. See what a difference it makes in how you raise a pit bull; with love or indifference or cruelty.
Pit bulls, as a breed, are not inherently vicious. Any owner can make ANY breed vicious, angry and mean just by treatment alone. When will the owners start being held responsible for the behaviour of their dogs?
If they ban Pit Bulls they should ban all breeds of dogs.ANY dog without the right care and handling can become agressive!!
Years ago they wanted to ban Dobermans,Today Pitbulls -- What Next??
With just a minor amount of research, even the average person would be able to find out that pit bulls aren't inherently aggressive towards humans. They just aren't. Bad owners can make them that way, but bad owners can make ANY dog that way. Punish the owners, not the dogs.
BSL legislation is ill conceived and very dangerous. More effort should be made to punish under the laws we now have which are adequate. BAn the person not the breed.
Fine the owner and/or put the dog down. Close down p[uppy mills!!!
owning a dog is a responsibility. This goes for all breeds. Before getting a dog prospective owners should read the manual.
Pits are not aggressive towards people, but like any other dog they can be turned into something they are not by irresponsible owners.
They should be punished, the dogs are not at fault.
The message MUST be clear - if a person wants the priviledge of owning a dog, they MUST accept the inherent responsibilities of ownership. ANY breed can be dangerous - just as any irresponsible person can create a public safety hazard.
this needs to get out there, to dispell the myths about pits. they are loving and family orented. i have one that i was perfectly comfortable keeping with my 4 yr. old child.
Why do people think pits is aggressive? If the owner hits them. it makes them mean so they are gonna be mean to other people but still pits are great dogs depends on how u treat em,
My fence blew down. Neighbor was worried about hte dog getting loose. next day he was off the chain and waiting at the door for me to get home. If he was as vicious as the media says, my nieghbor would not have been able to let him off.
HMMMM.
