I'm an Animal Control Supervisor who has been dealing with dangerous dogs for 28 years and I do not support the banning of ANY breed. Blame the deed NOT the breed!!
I am a apbt owner and trainer and as far as i am concerend this is one of the best breads out there. I would let my dog be around any other person that was responsible. And that is the problem we are having with this bread the dog its self does not to be punished but the owners that think it is cool to own this big bad dog that is so cool looking. It makes me sick to watch these people that are around the same age that i am (25) that walk down the road with there pit on a chain and big spiked coller thinking they are so tuff and scaring people do death. I have a 76 lbs male fully intacked and i take him every where that i go and i encourage people of all ages to pet and play with my dog this does not mean that i just let them do what ever they want with him i am allways watching to make sure no one gets to ruff with him and i allso think that if more pit bull owners would do this then more people would not be scared and this breed would be loved once again. But also make sure you know what you are talking about before you start preaching about your pit thank you verry much for this chance to let are voice known.
In 22 years of working with dogs, I have yet to meet a bad pit bull that was not a direct result of the owner. I have worked with many pits and only one (from a former fighting ring) has been what I would consider a danger. However,m I have worked with many Beagles, Labs and otehr supposedly "safe" breeds that I considered extremely risky dogs. All had an irresponsible owner to blame. SHow the good pits do - the service dogs, therapy dogs, show dogs, agility dogs, weight pullers and wonderful family companions. The breed is never to blame when a problem arises: it is the human.
We need to get a few things straight: there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. The same philosophy can be applied to all facets of our life: children, bosses, spouses, politicians... It is the 'owner' who runs the show. Good owners and leaders have the ability to provide guidance. Let's think about the 10 year old brat who lives down the street insisting on wreaking havoc. Should we ban that child too? Absolutely not! That child is most probably being raised in a less than adequate environment (physical, social, psychological). People need to start taking responsibility for themselves, their children, and their dogs. If someone is proven to not provide an adequate environment for their children, we don't put the children down. They need not pay the price of bad parenting. The same applies to bade ownership. The parents usually have to pay some kind of price, so let's create some legislation that says inadequate dog owners should also pay the price. Not inadequate pitbull owners, inadequate dog owners!
I own a 3 year old pit bull named Gator. I will not try to sugarcoat him for anyone. He is dog-aggressive. I wish he weren't, but he is.
He has never shown even the slightest sign of human agression, and if he did, I would have him put down.
Many people don't seem to grasp the difference between human and dog aggression. Some pitbulls are dog agressive and this is actually normal. No pitbull should ever show human agression. This is a sign of an unsound animal who should be humanely euthanised.
So, as a responsible owner, I know this means I have to be even more stringent about training and confinement. Gator is a house-pet, and has NEVER been outside without a leash, even in his own yard; because I know that other dog owners don't alwways leash their animals, and if a fight occurs the fault will be assigned to Gator. Because he is the pit bull, and the gent with the off-lead Lab will be the "victim".
It's sad, but it's our reality.
Laws should be the same for ALL breeds, and should focus on owner responsibility.
This bill 132 does not just affect pit bull owners but all dog owners. This ill thought out legislation only hurts the reponsible owner and innocent dog. It is time to go after the irresponsible owners. The Attorney General has already been caught in lies and making up stories. His credibility is in question. A story needs to be done on the many great acheivments of the pit bull breed. With real truths and facts. Not by people like Micheal Bryant who cannot even accuratley describe what he is trying to ban. The real story needs to be told about this great breed of dog. Not The Attorney Generals fear mongering lies and complete lack of education in this matter. Pit Bull breeds are great dogs.
If the truth were known regarding Pit Bulls and other supposedly "dangerous breeds," the real danger lies not in the dogs nor their breeds, but in the humans who own them and are mistreating and abusing them. There are no bad dogs - just bad people. Please be responsible and fair to the Pit Bull breed and tell the truth. My granddog named Dorothy (in Kansas, of course) is a Pit Bull and you couldn't ask for a better, sweeter dog.
Owner of an 8 year old American Staffordshire Terrier.Educate owners and hold them responsible for the actions of their dogs.Put an end to puppymills.Irresponsible owners are the problem, not specific breeds!
Pitbulls and other bull terrier type dogs should not be specifically targeted. It is the way that they were raised, not the breed. Punish the owners who train them to be mean, not the dogs.
Dog breeds, genetically speaking, are no different than the variances between human race. Therefore, no one breed is more prone to aggression that any one human race.
I live with 6 stafforshire bull terriers and I have never once felt threatened by them or any other ones I know. They are the gentlest animals around, they are making a big mistake banning them
I own a pitbull and she is the sweetest dog I have ever had, in fact she thinks she's a mini lap dog. I trust her around my other pets, as well as small children!! Its all in how you raise them, like any other creature. I have met a pretty mean collie or dalmation. And I have met pretty mean hounds and terriers....any dog can be vicious if provoked or raised as that, its not the dog, its the owner!
Please do not run the same close-minded and biased storied that most do. Make sure you have all of the FACTS - not assumptions! If you need any help gathering information please contact me, I can help as well as put you in touch with the president of the American Temperament Test Society and many others. Can also give you a list of GOOD reading. Thank you! It would be a shame not to run this - no matter the number of signatures. GET THE TRUTH OUT! DEEDS NOT BREEDS! Don't fear dogs, fear irresponsible owners!
I believe we need to be way more worried about people, than we need to be of dogs. I fully lay the responsiblity of a dogs behaviour on the owner, while keeping in mind that certain temperaments have to be catered to. Nothing, and I mean nothing justifies the euthanization of any animal, for any reason. I have adopted a cat from the local humane scoiety and saw the cages of dogs, labelled 'not for adoption', which infuriated me. Please bring public awareness to this issue and write about all the successful adoptions into loving homes, where adults and children provide a safe haven for a dog to live a healthy and wonderful live. One more thing, what about the owners of dogs who have them for the sole purpose of fighting other dogs until one of them dies? How can society place a label on a companion who is loyal, such as a dog? All Rescuers, know that you are special people in my book.
This is the 21st century and the news media needs to take responsibility for reporting the facts about pit bulls, instead of trying to increase ratings by using scare tactics to encourage city, state and federal government to implement breed specific legislation. It is time to be FAIR and BALANCED with what is REALLY occuring around the world with pit bulls!
FOX please do a story on these dogs. I have 2 of them, and they both sleep with my 10 year old son. People need to be educated on pits. The owners are responsible for how a dog acts. Any dog that is properlly socialized is a great dog. We need to hold neglectful owners accountable, not the dogs.
This signature is a dedication to my Lei-Cee who even as a mixed breed pit-bull would have been euthenized in a city that banned them when her owners abandoned her. Thanks to caring Angels, she was rescued from certain death. The sweetest dog on earth now has a new loving home!
Please expose the truth on the lives human beings force pit bulls to live. It is time that people are forced to take responsibility for their cruel actions. All too often animal abuse goes unpunished and it is a shame that funds are being spent on the killing/banning/ridiculou s regulating of pit bulls when animal abusers and dog fighters are permitted to carry on. PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE use your influence and spread the truth to the public. Don't fear the pit bull; fear what the dog has been put through by the human hands.
FOX please please please do this story! The public needs to be educated about this amazingly smart and caring breed. Maybe then my pup won't have to feel confused when people yell or run away while I am walking him down the street in my crowded city. Even when I play with him, he knows to be gentle with me and I have never had a problem with him being aggressive with a visitor or even complete stranger on the street. he just wants love and affection from everyone. Please show the world what so many of us feel so passionately about!!!
Be a leader in the journalist media field. Report on the true good nature of these dogs, and the suffering they go through due to stereotypes and discrimation against them. Breed Specific Legislation is happening all over the country and we need to put an end to it.
It comes in eras...once the German Shepherd was the dog to fear, then the Doberman, then the Rottweiler....now it is the PIT BULL. Pit bulls are not naturally people agressive dogs. Those who were when people fought them were put down on the spot. Bad owners are the problem. When will the madness stop? Most cocker spaniels and chihuaha, and other foo foo dogs bite much more so than a pit bull, or a larger watch dog. If you stop bad owners and penalize them, not a breed you would be better off. Most pit bulls will take a ton of abuse from people, and NEVER EVER BITE. I can hardly say that from any other breed I know.
Bill 132 introduced by Mr. Bryant is taking the simplistic approach that banning certain types of breeds will solve the problem of aggressive dogs. This has been proven not to work elsewhere, and people, especially the elected officials need to know the true facts and the concerns of their constituants, before voting on such issues. It is not the dog that is the problem, but how the dog has been trained and treated that needs to be addressed. Most of the pitbull, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and American Staffordshire Terrier owners are good responsible dog owners who treat their dogs well and in return have wonderful gentle pets. Do not punish the many responsible dog owners, for the irresponsible actions of a few.
Pit bulls aren't the problem. It's terrible owners who are. They're fantastic dogs. No dog is born "bad". People make them that way. Perscute the people who fight and neglect them. Not the breed. They did nothing wrong. Why is it that humans always have to wreck everything?
I'll admit that I bought into the media hype about this breed of dog until we rescued one. Even though this puppy wouldn't harm a fly and is afraid of his own shadow, I was still a little 'anxious' b/c I knew he was a Pit Bull. However, as time went on and we saw this breed's WONDERFUL characteristics (overly affectionate, playful and just funny as hell!), we now are ADVOCATES of the Pit Bull Terrier b/c we know there are no bad dogs, just bad owners.
BSL is a ludicrous knee-jerk response and never solves the true problem. Irresponsible breeders will simply move on to another breed of dog to warp and irresponsible owners will be buying them.
Start stinging the owners by actually making them pay for their neglect and ingnorance!
It's so very true what people say - "It's NOT the breed, it's the deed". You just can not ban an entire breed due to uncaring, thoughless and cruel humans who treat them improperly and encourage them to be aggressive when they are not naturally so. Thank you for your consideration.
Our dogs are lke our children. You can raise a mean unmannered chld like any breed of dog. They ARE what PEOPLE make them, NOT what we label them as because of mean and crul people, The victims here are the 4 leeged pit bulls we call bullies, when in reality the TWO leeged creature is THE BULLY!
Any dog can be aggressive if treated poorly. These dogs are demonized because of their strength and their unfortunate popularity as symbols of masculinity to members of the seamier side of society. This is an unfortunate purloining of a breed once beloved as a symbol by generations as a family dog without equal. Petey, the familiar dog from the Lil Rascals, the RCA Victrola dog and the familiar Buster Brown mascot were all Pit Bulls, before they became the "scary" dogs they seem to be today. Think again, these are some of the hardest working, most loyal dogs you could ever be lucky enough to know.
I really hope this works cause so many ignorant people out here that think pit bulls are killers and they are not. no dogs are killers but they are animals and people are just gone have to learn to respect them. I have owned two pit bulls before and they were not aggressive at all , did they protect my home and family yes but that's it and i never not once had a problem with them doing anything to me or my family as a matter of fact i use to take them both into petsmart on sats. every week and the workers in the store loved to see them come in but stupid people that listen to the media they walk down another ile ,look at me all funny like i should not have that kind of dog. But learn the truth about these dogs hell own one your self and you will see how wonderful these dogs are.
I have an American Pit Bull Terrior and to be honest; he's is the perfect family dog... All the kids in the neighborhood say that he is the niciest dog in the area...
Its so sad to see how ppl view pits...ive seen one raised since it was a pup and its the nicest dog in the world and it is in a house with infants...there is nothing to be scared of by them becuase they are probably the friendliest fun dog an owner could have....ppl should stop victimizin them and go play with one for a day and see how innocent they are....
Pitbulls are just as aggressive as anyother dog, their not mutients and not here on earth to kill people! GET IT STRIGHT ITS THE SHITTY OWNERS THAT MAKE THEIR DOGS VICIOUS..and i think any one that says pitbulls are vicious and has never owned or been around one should DIE! but anyway im with this 100%
There is nothing inherently dangerous about these dogs. I own a Staffordshire Bull Terrier specifically because of its level temperament and fondness for childre, and have never met one from among the hundreds I've encountered that did not share this trait.
i got my first dog when i was 4 yrs old and guess what it just happened to be a black ans white american pit bull terrier! since my love and respect for this breed has only grown stronger. i nor any person i know has ever had i problem with this breed like so many claim, i will do whatever i can and stand up for whenever i can for this breed!! Very happy to back this cause!
pitbulls are the most misunderstood of all dogs ferice, violent, mean, hunge r and need to fight??? NO the only thing that a pitbull has the desire to do is please his owner and that is none of the above all that is, is loyal and great....its the owner that should be punished!
I used to work at a no-kill shelter whre I took care of pits that were rescued from fighting and only 1 out of 30 or more dogs remained aggressive. All the others were adopted out to loving families. Pits are wonderful dogs, its people that are ignorant and in-humane. It makes me sick that the dogs(any dogs, not just pits) are blamed for thier behavior which was tought to them by humans.
its crazy how someone can talk about a certain type of dog being aggressive and not even own one.its the up bringing of any kind of dog the way its going to turn out.maybe alot of these people need to get a pit as a pup and raise it and then see just how this works.not all dogs are alike for them all to get the blame in the same category.i have 4 pits and there all 4 great dogs and thats my opinion on that.
